Smile Elephant Sanctuary offers a very authentic elephant engagement experience. We appreciated the in-depth interaction with the elephants. The guides were very caring and attentive. They even picked us up at our hotel--returning us at the end of the experience.

Great time. Longer than half a day. Worth it 100 percent. Hosts were great. We had poppy and another young man. They were fun and took safety seriously. Lunch was good too. I would suggest doing the rafting as well as there is no extra time added to the trip.

Staff clearly love all the elephants. It makes the tourists happy to see these elephants have fun while they eat, walk around and take a bath! Excellent experience for wildlife and animal lovers.

Overall ok day. They have falsely advertised 10 people max per trip but actually there were around 23-25 people. Only 4 elephants. Must be maximising on profit. We were picked up first and it took 2.5 hours to reach. The van needs updating and cleaning. There were stains and a wire sticking out of the seat. The tour guide who picked us up didn’t speak much English. He didn’t give any commentary on the way. Once we reached, we got given water and met the english speaking guide who was good at giving explanations and gave time for questions. We enjoyed seeing the elephants and appreciated that they looked happy, free as much as possible and really well fed. On the way back we were taken to a restaurant with decent food but it was cold.

When it comes to the actual elephant part of this your, I would give it a 4.5/5
The elephants look well looked after, they seemed happy and our experience with them was great.
However, overall the tour is more of a 3 or 3.5 for me.
Firstly, the journey to the elephant sanctuary took 2 hours, as we were the first pick up.
Secondly, on viator this is sold as a max 10 people tour, but when we got there, another minibus arrived, so in total there was 20 or more of us and only 4 elephants.
This in my opinion is too many people at once compared to other elephant tours I've done.
Lastly, at the end of the tour you stop for some food. The quality of the food was some of the worst I've had in Thailand. Cold chewy noodles, cold spring rolls, cold everything.

The experience was ok, but I expected more, honestly.
The guide didn’t explain much, we didn’t have an introduction about the sanctuary, the elephants, only a bit of information. The interaction with them was always fast, 5 mins per activity, just to take a picture, so we didn’t enjoy it a lot. If you would like to have only the typical photo is fine. Anyway was a nice experience and the elephants look like they are being treated well

It was a great experience interacting and learning about elephants. We had the opportunity to feed, make food, and bathe the elephants. We received lots of pictures from the tour guide. The Hotel pickup was smooth. The day got a bit long as we had to wait for part of the group that was rafting. It might have made sense to have an elephants-only tour and one that includes additional activities in a separate van.

Had the most amazing day! I was the only one on the tour so I had all 3 elephants to myself. Buntu, Boja and Bunsi (unsure of the spelling) were such sweet girls. I got to feed them and prepare their supplement snacks. Also got to take Bunsi for a walk and wash her. My guide was also the driver and he was fantastic. Took lots of photos and videos for me. He stopped at the store so I could get bug spray and was willing to stop anywhere else I wanted to on my way back to the hotel which was really kind. Lunch was provided at the end of the tour at a local restaurant. It was decent. Water snacks and coffee/tea available during the day too. There were private showers to clean up at the end of the day which was a plus. I highly recommend this tour when in Chiang Mai!

Amazing experience during which the elephant wellbeing was considered number 1. Poppy and Adam were great guides who knew a lot about the area and elephants.

All the day was very memorable from getting off the mini bus to feeding the elephant walking with them and getting in the water to wash them
