Itinerary
Get picked up at your hotel and travel to Stellenbosch via a comfortable air-conditioned minivan for the scenic drive through the wine country of the Western Cape.
The first order of business is a walking tour of central Stellenbosch, second only to Cape Town as the oldest European settlements in the province. Learn about how the history of the town is closely tied to the region’s winemaking prowess as you walk past stately homes that are fine examples of Cape Dutch and Georgian architecture. The tree-lined streets of the town have given it the nickname of ‘Eikestad,’ which means ‘city of oaks’ in Afrikaans.
The next stop is at one of the historic wine estates in the area - the precise winery visited varies for each tour, depending on availability, but some of the possible wineries are Uitkyk Estate, Merelust Estate, KWV Wines Charmony. Enjoy a guided wine tasting during where you can taste Pinotage, the hybrid red wine grape that was first grown in South Africa and is the country’s signature varietal. Learn how this wine region’s soil and climate (which is akin to the Mediterranean) make it an ideal place for producing excellent wines.
After the winery visit, climb back into the minivan for the trip back to Cape Town.

None , mostly negative poor time management and location was dismal . The weather was terrible but that’s not the issue

Great tour and tour guide. Our guide for the afternoon was Wilson and he was great. So friendly and caring. We visited two wineries and had a small stop in the town of Stellenbosch which was lovely. The wineries were nice, had a chance to taste some wines and try some cheese and biltong.

Great trip, friendly guide and some very nice wine!

You need to go on this tour. My wife and I went on this tour during our honeymoon. Our tour guide, Brittany, was extremely funny and informative! Sweet person. She took us to the best vineyards right as the sun was setting. Extremely romantic. My wife and I loved the wine. We stuffed our suitcases with this exclusive wine. Definitely a must-do.

Tour was ok. It was a half day tour and we visited only one winery and tasted 4 wines there. Was a good expereince but maybe a full day tour would have been more worth it.

Perfect if you have limited time, and just want an introduction to the wine area around Cape Town. It does take an hour to get there from central Cape Town, but we did visit 2 wine estates and sampled about 4 or 5 different wines at both.

This tour was so well organized. I went to two different wine estates and tasted about 12 different wines. The driver was extremely informative and entertaining. Scenery was breathtaking. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Cape Town!
Rosalie M, Nov 2015
Abe was our guide and took us to 2 wineries and then on the way back to the hotel took us through Stellenbosch well worth the trip. Abe was very informative guide and was able to answer many of the questions put to him.

We enjoyed our wine tour with Robbie. He gave us a nice summary and history of the Cape Town area while driving and was very personable. Unfortunately, our tour started late picked up at 2pm, not 1:30 or before and we hit a ton of traffic. This caused us to have very little time in Stellenbosch. The winery Robbie chose was great and included a cheese tasting. The other two people on our tour were not into any of it, which soured a little bit of the tour also. Overall, I'd recommend it but I'd also suggest going for a longer time and visiting more than one winery!

This was a wonderful way to see some of the outskirts of Cape Town. Our guide, Rodney was very charming and humorous and made the trip very enjoyable. The Stellenbosch area is not to be missed if you are in the Cape Town vicinity. I will definitely use Viator for future travels.
Quanetta B, Aug 2015
Our group of 10 certainly enjoyed the wine tour. Although we did the half day option, we were able to stop at 2 winery's and tasted over 10 different wines. Our tour guide, Rodney, was awesome! He provided some interesting historical information during the drive and kept us laughing throughout the tour. I would highly recommend this tour for visitors with a limited amount of time.
Carola W, Feb 2015
We only got to taste different wines at two different wineries. We did not get an opportunity to learn about how the wine is made and did not get a walking tour around the city center in Stellenbosch.
Simon C, Oct 2013
Prompt pick up ...interesting tour guide ...not enough time to stop in town of Stellanbosch as we were too busy drinking at the two wineries we visited ! ...Great fun ...would recommend !
louise.c1000, Apr 2013
This was only a half day tour. Unfortunately the tour rep. who escorted us spoilt the whole day. He was from another tour company and he had the most boring voice that did not stop all afternoon. He just droned on and on and quite honestly we really just wanted to take in the lovely scenery and not be plied with so much information from such a boring tour guide. He needs to take lessons from Elaine from Springbok Atlas! Anyway Stellenbosch wine tour was very good and the wine tasting and information from staff at the estate was good. Unfortunately we did not get much time to take in the village of Stellenbosch which would have been nice.

Didn't get to visit the town of Stellenbosch, which is what I really wanted to do. We only went to the wineries.

We were told to meet at the clock tower in Victoria and Albert waterfront. Having finished what we were doing and having nowhere else to go we went to the waterfront and were there an hour ahead of time. We watched for someone with a sign or a shirt/jacket with the Viator name on it. No one ever showed up. We called and were told that we were not where we were supposed to be and the driver had gone. After much discussion, they sent a new driver who did his very best to make our day special. He was quite knowledgeable but we were rushed through the winery because it was very late in the day by this time. We had a similar problem in Venice but thought we would give your company another try. Sorry, but I think we have given you your last chance.

Thank you for leaving a review with Viator. We wanted to make sure we clarified a few points, so future travelers will have the best possible information. As Viator is a Tour Broker, we use multiple Tour Operators around the world to be able to supply the wealth and variety of tours that we have. You will mostly likely never see a guide or driver while in a destination who will be wearing a "Viator" shirt - they will likely have the name of the local Tour Operator.
We always provide the Tour Operator information to you on the voucher, and most of tours include directions for reconfirmation. (Depending on the Tour, there are rare instances where you do not need to reconfirm.) The reconfirmation process is to ensure that you get the exact time of pickup, and directions on how to find the Guide or Driver. This process also allows you to ask any questions you may have, or get good turn by turn directions if you should need them.
We're glad to hear the Tour Operator was able to be flexible and send you a new driver. For future tours, we would recommend that you always read the directions listed under the "Important" section of your voucher, to ensure that you have the best information concerning the Tour Operator.

Great short trip of wineries, which we enjoyed very much!

If you only have a short time in Cape Town, this trip is definitely a must. Informative guide, and the trip to see the cheetah a real unexpected surprise.
Sharmeen F, Jun 2008
This was a nice tour & was a nice experience specially at the Anura winery where you can pet the cheetahs. The guide was good and was a nice drive away from the city of Cape Town.
Jennifer M, Aug 2007
The guide was very knowledgeable, gave us plenty of time and answered all questions readily.
Hugues_O, Jan 2020
