Pick-up from hotels, guesthouses, backpackers, vacation rentals, AirBnB's and any other points within Cape Town city centre. Please specify your pickup address. We can inform you if it is possible. Please note that the timeslot selected is an estimated time for when the Shark Cage Diving boat will launch. Pickup time will be earlier to allow enough travel time from Cape Town to arrive for pre-trip briefing at the Great White House in Gansbaai. These are only estimated times and exact times can only be confirmed a day prior, after a detailed weather and tide check. Please allow a full day in your itinerary for this activity.
Itinerary
This exciting shark experience begins from your central Cape Town hotel.
Start at the Great White House, Gansbaai’s shark diving center, where you’ll eat breakfast, and meet your guides for the day. After eating, get fitted into the appropriate diving gear.
Climb into the specialized diving boat, complete with a shark diving cage, for the 20-minute trip into the ocean. Your captain heads for Dyer Island, choosing an ideal place to stop for the dive.
The cage is secured to the side of the boat, and during the cage dives it stays a few feet (meters) below the surface of the water. This means it’s easy for you to get out of the water at any point when you want to.
The boat stays anchored in this diving spot for roughly two hours, depending on shark activity. During that time, there are drinks and snacks for you aboard the boat. After the boat returns to Gansbaai, enjoy light refreshments back at the Great White House. You can choose to buy a professional video of your shark cage diving experience (own expense).
Your experience concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Cape Town.

- Please note: Sharks are wild animals and their presence cannot be guaranteed. Every experience that guests have is educational from start to finish. The local supplier works with wild life and nature and sightings are never guaranteed. If a shark has been sighted from the boat, they will consider that a successful trip. If there is no shark activity while on a shark cage diving tour with the supplier, then a voucher will be offered. This voucher is not transferable – your name and passport number will be recorded on the voucher. The transfer fee is non-refundable.
- This tour typically departs at 9am, however if the weather conditions are bad in the morning, the tour will leave in the afternoon; this will be confirmed by the tour operator close to the day of your tour.
- Please note that the Conservation Fee is compulsory.

The experience was nice overall, but the sharks were actually better seen from the boat than underwater. Visibility in the cage made it harder to fully enjoy the experience. In hindsight, I would have preferred a boat-only viewing experience.

Just a heads up this is approx 2 1/2 he drive from Cape Town to the costed of the Shark experience. Our driver was great. Answered any questions we had. We were provided a pasta lunch before heading out. It was choppy on the water. So make sure to bring Gravel or patches for motion sickness. There was a bunch of not so happy passengers on our boat. They did provide chunks of ginger which did help. While in the water we did have approx 7-9 Bronze Whaler sharks. They wpuld just swim by no bashing of the cages so was great to see them up close. We were in the cage for approx 20 mins per group (8 people) and on the water for about 2 1/2 hrs. The site is approx 15 mins from the dock. Overall it was a great experience.

Great experience! It’s a long day but worth it. Unfortunately didn’t see great whites but did see lots of sharks, 3 enormous stingrays and some cute seals that hung out with us the whole time! Staff is extremely knowledgeable and so friendly!

This experience was worth the money, early morning transportation, cold water lol. I was picked up and dropped back off at the doorstep to my hotel in Capetown. The ride and pre briefing went pretty smoothly, and then it was off to the boat. After chumming the waters the beautiful sharks started coming out. I felt safe in the cage. Us participants waded in the water for the shaks to come, took a deep breath, and pushed ourselves under water to see the majestic sharks close up. You’ll get a full wetsuit with hoodie, booties, and googles which you’ll need to see under water and brave the cold water (about 12C with our experience). No O2 tank or other scuba equipment given/needed. We saw some seals, and a large group of Dolphins on the way back to shore. Truly an unforgettable experience for sure!

We absolutely loved this experience. We were picked up promptly at 4:50am so be ready for an early morning! Drive to Gansbaai is absolutely beautiful. The Marine Dynamics team were all very knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife and the ocean and our experience. They take care of everything you need, all you need is your swimsuit and dry clothes. They assisted every step of the way and made sure every group in the cage got ample time for wonderful views. When you’re not in the cage, you have amazing views as well so there’s never a dull moment. The staff and volunteers are also very kind and compassionate when assisting those who may get seasick (me included). Once the ocean experience ended, we took a quick trip to the penguin rehabilitation center which was great as well. It’s a long and busy day but worth every minute and penny!

Amazing experience! Driver was nice and on time, crew for the shark diving was super nice and really helpful and kind when we started getting sea sick. No matter the sea sickness, we had a blast and are happy to have seen sharks so close!

Cage diving was a bucket list activity for us, but doing it ethically was very important. Marine Dynamics is exactly that. Our guide Suzie was so knowledgeable and kind. You can tell she truly loved and cared for sharks. All of the crew was very professional as well. Our driver also stopped to point out whales and baboons which was an added bonus. They included a breakfast and lunch which was a great bonus.
Be warned, if you get picked up from Cape Town it’s a very long day as you are stopping to pick up others plus it’s a 2 hour drive to the dive house. We were gone for about 11 hours total, but worth it. We saw 10 different bronze whaler sharks and seals while diving.

Despite the very early start and long drive it was a fantastic day. We were open minded about what we would see but we were not disappointed. We saw several bronze whalers, a sevengill, a couple of stingray and a very playful cape seal. As the sea is very murky it was quite difficult to see them below the surface but you had a great view of them swimming past the cage while your head was above water. It was amazing to get so close to them. The crew looked after us all day. We had a nice breakfast before we sailed and snacks, hot drinks on the boat with soup back at centre.

Their who operation what awesome, they went the extra mile to make sure people were taken care of and had a good time and the tour includes lots of little extras that really made it great, like a hot shower after you get out of the water, snacks before, after, and during the tour, they offered blankets and hot water bottles if people were cold, and for people like me that ended up seasick for part of it, they were very attentive and tried their best to make me comfortable given the situation.

It was challenging to get into and out of the wetsuit but got it done.!! No great whites this time but saw several sharks and two different species which was interesting...it was great fun.!!! I highly recommend it and Marine Dynamics was AWESOME.!!!

Amazing experience.
All aspects of the day blew our minds, from the hotel pick up, being really well looked after with safety briefing, breakfast and lunch after, and cared for when I got seasick, to the actual unbelievable experience and the fact that we saw a great white which exceeded our expectations as we had been told there was little chance of seeing one.
We were surprised how long you spend in the cage. We were told we were a small group so others may not be so lucky but it was at least 45 mins.
Videos were offered but we didn't feel pressured to buy it.
All in all, this was an amazing trip and I would definitely recommend Marine Dynamics.

It was a good time. We saw about 9 Bronze Whaler Sharks. The employees were very honest and prepare for not seeing Great Whites, but the whaler sharks were big and came right up to the cage.
