If you have never had or do not know what Mate is in the Argentinian culture, this class is for you. I was able to learn how to prepare a Mate pot correctly and understand the social "norms" around sharing one. It is not as straightforward as you might think! Thank you for a wonderful class.

We really enjoyed this experience. I had read a lot about Mate and it is not really something that you can just walk into a cafe and get. We got insight into the history, different blends, how to check for quality and freshness, how to prepare, and the etiquette of how it gets served. Our friend knew nothing about mate and also really enjoyed the experience. I'm a convert and will be confusing colleagues while I fix mate during meetings.

A very cute store and a wonderful host. She explained the ritual and significance of mate. Very informative and great organic yerba/mate flavors. We were running a little late and she was incredibly patient and responded quickly.

Martina was warm and inviting and clearly showed us the art of Mate drinking and the history of this popular drink. We tried local pastries along with our mate and it’s something everyone should do that visits Buenos Aires.

Not a great class

I felt it was expensive for what it was. You only got to try 2 flavors of mate and our instructor wasn’t super enthusiastic either. She didn’t really explain things well. I often had to come to my own conclusions about things and verify it through her since she wouldn’t really explain anything unless asked about it. I wouldn’t do this class with this company. I would definitely try somewhere else.

Michaela was fantastic! As an unrepentant coffee addict who is - at best - ambivalent about non-coffee beverages, this masterclass converted me. Michaela explained the background behind mate, both the product itself and the whole culture/practice around it, in a fun and engaging way. We were able to try both a "plain" mate and the flavor/infusion variations. Apparently most rookies prefer the flavored versions, but the plain one ended up being my favorite (and the one I brought home). As for the flavors, I tried coffee, (because again, unrepentant); my girlfriend tried citric ginger. Hers was better. This is not the first time she's been right. The hour flew by, and now I have a new morning/afternoon ritual.

The Only way you will try Mate

Every travel article about Argentina recommends you try Mate. To my surprise, it is extremely hard to find a place in Argentina that sells Mate. It is NOT sold in restaurants, or cafes, or bars, not even at the hotel (trust me I asked everywhere). Usually Argentinians prepare it at home, so unless you are invited to someone’s home in Argentina, you will not get to try Mate. So, it was a very pleasant surprise to find this Mate Experience. You get to try several Mates, and get a very interesting explanation of its history and the proper way to prepare it. If you want to try Mate I will definitely recommend it.
