Best guide ever! Ethan (?) was great and very enjoyable to listen to. He kept a good eye on the group, gave lots of fun facts, and was very personable. The team double-checked our gear before we headed out providing me with extra safety assurance. I’d do it again…. And yes, heights do make me nervous.

Overview

Climbing the Story Bridge is impossible to do on your own, and for good reason. This guided climb sets it up, starting with a safety briefing at Howard Smith Wharves before you clip onto the static line and ascend the bridge's eastern side. Reach a platform around 262 feet (80 meters) up for wide views over the Brisbane River, Moreton Bay, and the Glass House Mountains.

Story Bridge Adventure Climb Base Headquarters, located at the Howard Smith Wharves Precinct, underneath the Crystalbrook Vincent Hotel and next to Betty's Burgers, less than a kilometer from the downtown Brisbane.

What To Expect

Your Story Bridge climb begins at base headquarters at Howard Smith Wharves, 15 minutes before your scheduled departure. A guide walks the group through the route and safety procedures, then attaches you to the static line.

From there, set off for the summit up the eastern side of the bridge, climbing a steep incline to a top platform—one of two high points, each around 262 feet (80 meters) above sea level.

The reward is an uninterrupted, 360-degree view: the city skyline, the Brisbane River, Moreton Bay, the Glass House Mountains, and Mt. Coot-tha and Lamington National Park in the distance. Twilight departures catch the skyline as the light changes.

From the central platform, traverse the width of the bridge above six lanes of traffic before returning to headquarters, where you receive one high-resolution group photo of your climb.

I was met at the register with such warmth from Sassy and Nick and they stayed friendly and engaging the entire time. This was definitely an extremely fun tour with a lot of charisma and good personality from Nick. You can tell that he is also smart and well traveled. That makes the perfect tour guide in my opinion. He even had a gaggle of heckling obnoxious weirdo ladies with neck tattoos and managed to play around with them lightly where I could envision most tour operators losing their patience. I would do this tour again in a heartbeat and highly recommend anyone on the fence, just biting the bullet.

Dominic checked me in and helped with “suiting up”. She cracked some good jokes and made everyone feel more at ease. Abbie, our guide was a total ROCKSTAR… from start to finish- Safety, professional and fun. Some bicyclists were getting TOO close to our group as we were entering the bridge…she turned into “mama bear” 🐻 and went into protection mode. I don’t think the bicyclist expected that shoulder throw…but hey…she kept us safe. Seriously though, she kept us safe. No bicyclists were hurt during our climb… or were they 🤨. The views were amazing, the stories and education of the area were top shelf and ABBIE was a professional rock star! Great pictures!

It was fun. It is clear they put time into hiring their guides to ensure enthusiastic personalities. In our case it was Nick and he did a great job. We are both 70 and had no trouble at all. You walk up metal stairs of consistent size and height while holding the handrail on both sides. In the unlikely event you slip, which nobody did on our tour, you are tethered to the stairwell by a metal cable that attaches to the full body vest you wear around a jumpsuit. All provided in the cost.

Great walk and views

We arrived straight from the airport and were early .Adam was kind to put us in the group leaving two hours earlier we saved time and got to explore more of the city later on. Our guide Jasper was thorough knowledgeable and gave safety for all of us high priority. We aren’t allowed to take cameras up due to injury risk to pedestrians and cars but Jasper took many pictures for a very reasonable cost , view was worth it from up top.

17:05 was a bit late for the sunset — the sun had already set by the time we started the tour. That said, the view from the bridge was still fascinating, and I had a great time with Andrew! The nationality selection forcibly labels Taiwan as ‘Province of China’, the system should be improved.

We had an amazing climb with Issy. Both my husband and I are not keen on heights and she put our entire group at ease & reassured us throughout. You get the best views of Brisbane from the climb and some great photos taken. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Brisbane!

The staff were friendly and professional. The activity was lovely, and the view was gorgeous for sunset! Wish we would have had a bit more time at the top with a smaller group. Also a bummer not to be able to bring your own camera, but understandable with the risks. Maybe sell a little carry box for the camera that straps to the suit that’s equivalent to the extra for the photos? Andrew went above and beyond. Great for families, a little anti-climactic for adrenaline junkies, but great memories all the same!

Really fun way to see Brisbane from a different point of view. Our guide, Sam, did a fantastic job. First and foremost the company is committed to safety. As we made our way to the top of the bridge, Sam gave us a great history of the structure and of Brisbane itself. We got our pictures taken at the top of the bridge which makes for a fantastic keepsake.
