This was both my first time in China as well as my first solo and international trip in years. I had an amazing time, so glad I chose this way to see the wall. We saw only a handful of other people and was able to go at my pace getting to and from the campsite, didn’t have to worry about taking too long taking photos or waiting for the slowest like in a large group. The wall area is clearly done up as a tourist area with a number of attractions and activities around the lake and off the wall itself but as we arrived in the evening they were closed at the time. We camped at a rest stop area that had ammenities (toilets, picnic tables and vending machines nearby) and had the choice of camping in the tower or the open area. I chose the open area cos I like stargazing. The guide Peter was great too, I loved trying the local foods and he gave great recommendations for dishes to try as well helping me take photos and gave tips for other seeing tourist locations around Beijing. 100% recommend
