Itinerary

Start with pickup at your hotel in Arusha at 8am, then begin the 50-minute drive to Arusha National Park, passing through a scenic landscape of coffee plantations and small villages. Upon arrival at the park, joined an armed ranger for a walking tour across the plains, heading up the ascent route on the side of Mount Meru for panoramic views of the park—the towering stratovolcano is long dormant, and is among the tallest mountains in Africa.

Head back to the vehicle and drive to the nearby Momella Lakes, a series of seven alkaline lakes that draw flamingoes throughout the year. You can enjoy the view with a picnic lunch (additional cost of USD $10), with the option to add a canoe safari across the lake (canoe safari is not included in the price of this tour).

Alternately, spend the afternoon on a relaxed game drive through Arusha National Park, watching for some of the Cape buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and monkeys that live within the relatively small reserve. At the end of the afternoon, begin the return trip to Arusha, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.

This was our first of 6 safari locations spanning Arusha National Park, Tarangarire, Ngorngoro Crater, and Central Serengeti. A great introduction to Tanzania's warm culture and the beautiful animals. Our guide Julius was informative, interesting, fun, and made us feel safe the entire day. Although a little further away than we saw at the other parks, we did see giraffes, colobus monkeys, zebras, Cape Buffalo, and a hippo! Baboons were also plentiful and entertaining. Lunch overlooking the lake was very good and water through the day was plentiful.

Took the tour the last day of my 1 week trip, flying out at 8:50pm, tour lasted 7:30am - 5pm, paid the tour company to drop me off at The airport at the end of the tour. Worked out perfectly. After a six day safari visiting Serengeti, ngorongoro, tarengeri and lake manyara, I was not expecting much. But it is beyond my expectations! The walking safari was the highlight. We were lucky to run into a family of 5 giraffes right at the start of the walking tour. It's amazing walking on soft grass grounds, 10 meters from giraffes, 50 meters from a few buffaloes, with another huge herd of buffaloes 100 meters away on the other side of a small creek, with mountain meru as the background There are also a lot of sighting of baby giraffes, in addition to flamingos lake, hippos lake, lot of monkeys. It's mostly a rain forest, very different look from the other parks. A great way to end my first safari! My guide was amazing. It's low season, I was the only guest in the car, just like a private tour. Highly recommended!
