Be mindful that this trip is one way. I checked carefully around this with Viator who assured me this was a return ticket. It wasn’t - I nearly got stranded and ended up paying double what I was expecting.

Hi Hannah, We're sorry if you got incorrect information from Viator customer service. They are just a booking platform with a call center (they are not local in Guatemala). The listing states in at least three places (in the 'overview' section, the 'what to expect' section, and in the booking section) it's a one way shuttle, and all of the products indicate it is one way only. We also messaged you in Viator when your booking came in to reiterate that it is a one-way ride , as we do with all of our transportation bookings. While we cannot comment on the payment for your return (and had nothing to do with the payment you made for the return trip which was not booked with us), we do apologize about that experience. We're happy to know we offer lower prices than the company you returned with. We'll tell them to update the listing on their end to emphasize a few more times that it's a one-way, in the places where we cannot edit it. We hope the ride was safe, on time, and you enjoyed Chichicastenango, and we'll take your one start review as a review of Viator and their service. Thank you.

45 mins late even though we were the only pickup spot

Not sure if they forgot about us, but they were 45 mins late and the car they picked us up with only had one pickup spot (which is the one we were waiting at, Santo Thomas Hotel). Here's what happened: We were waiting at the pickup spot since 20 minutes before the pickup time (which was 2pm). Around 2:25pm the shuttle was still not here while all the other people also waiting for shuttle services had already boarded their buses operated by other companies (most are also picking up at 2pm). We were the last ones left waiting at Santo Thomas Hotel. We then contacted Due South Travel and they said the driver would arrive soon. The driver eventually arrived at around 2:45pm in a car, rather than a shared van. I don't recall them explaining or apologizing for what happened. I suspect if we've never contacted them, they may not have come at all. That said, the customer service was good. They were responsive and reacted quickly, they also kept me updated afterwards. So the stars given in this review is for them. The missing stars were cause the shuttle felt unreliable.

Hi Kaman, We're sorry for the wait time you experienced in Chichi. We see that at 220pm, we sent a message to the provider of the shuttle (we're a third party booking service) and said you were still waiting. So, we think you were correct that they may have forgotten you (they never indicated to us that you hadn't boarded the shuttle, and they will usually call us ASAP if any of our passengers haven't come to board), and we are SOOO sorry for that! That should never have happened and is truly rare, but thank you for your review and for bringing it to our attention. A million apologies for that, as we don't want anyone to BE forgotten, let alone to even FEEL forgotten while traveling. It must have been concerning to you, and rightly so. We are glad you shared this information and we'll review our internal processes and our communication with our providers to make sure we can avoid this mistake in the future. Thanks again. shared shuttle

Shuttle bus much older and run down than pictured in Viator marketing. Van had no power to climb mountains in Guatemala so often we were going very slow. We got to our destination and back, but not in comfort. Some other vans were much nicer. Also, prior to our return, it took all the drivers including ours about 40 minutes to figure out who was returning in their shuttle and who needed to switch vans to go on to Panajachel. It could have been better organized. Our driver had a hand written notes with names highlighted.

Hi Valerie, The week of Christmas to New Years is one of the top three busiest weeks of the year so we do add more vehicles to the fleet during that time and perhaps it wasn't a new model like you expected. Apologies it was driving more slowly than you hoped. There are three shuttle companies that do pickups so sometimes there is some wait time as drivers collect their passengers. Unfortunately because last minute bookings take place, there isn't great internet and no portable printers, they do write things by hand. Not the most advanced system but its what they work with! The shuttle never came to...

The shuttle never came to pick us up. We were there 20 minutes before the arranged pick-up time and we hadn;t left until 1 hour later and because some friendly local people did us a favor, NOT because Viator lifted a finger to help out us after leaving us stranded.

We also paid the private taxi out of pocket to deliver the service to you. Efficient way to travel

Pickup was scheduled for 7am with the expectation to be at pickup point 10-15 minutes before. Shuttle finally showed up at 7:25 am, so we missed breakfast and had to wait 40 minutes. The hotel called and the answer was that this was a collectivo and it would get there when it would get there. I understand that some cultures prefer punctuality, whereas others have a more laissez-faire attitude. If you promise 7am, be there at 7 am otherwise give a window. Good driver, however little respect for speed limits, traffic signs, etc. Drop off was not at the hotel San Tomas as arranged, but in a parking garage a few hundred meters away. Because drop off and pick up were at the same location, we had no problem finding it, otherwise it might have been a bit more complicated
