After pickup from your Amman hotel, settle into your private, air-conditioned vehicle.

As you travel, gaze at the desert landscapes and hear tales of Petra’s history. Hewn into a sandstone valley by the Nabataean people some 2,000 years ago, this ancient rose-red rock city was located at the crossroads of age-old trading routes.

On arrival, enjoy a 2-hour tour of this UNESCO-listed wonder with a local guide.

Walk or ride a horse through the famous Siq, the narrow 0.75-mile (1.2 kilometer) rock fissure that was once the city’s entrance, and marvel at your first glimpse of the hauntingly beautiful Treasury (El Khazneh).

Admire this rose-pink masterpiece, originally built to house priceless treasures. Then, walk through the widening canyon to witness other buildings such as the Theatre, Royal Tombs and the High Place of Sacrifice.

As you explore, listen as your guide describes how the Nabataeans sculpted the buildings, and learn how they mastered the harsh desert conditions to make their lives here.

After around two hours of exploring, enjoy free time to explore before returning to Petra’s entrance and rejoin your private vehicle and driver.

Stop at Little Petra, a small rocky valley of carved Nabataean-era buildings that archaeologists believe was a suburb of Petra, and acted as an accommodation stop for the traders who traveled through the city.

A hidden treasure in a hidden city

Our driver was very friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. He made sure that we were taking cared of with water, food, and once we arrived at petra he wasn't our tour guide inside of Petra which was a bummer. I think if that can be changed the experience would have been 100 percent better. Petra is definitely a sight to see please wear sneakers on this excursions it involves a lot of walking. But its worth it.

Incredible experience! Cannot recommend this tour enough. Our local guide in Petra, called Joseph, was the absolute best! We didn't realise just how big Petra is so ended up staying on with Joseph after the tour finished just after the Treasury building (around 2.5hrs - we started at midday) and spent another 8hrs with him walking up to the view point of the Treasury from above and then over to the Monastery with the 800 steps ascent and decent! Then we returned to the Treasury for the Petra by Night Show. Both my Mum and I said it was one of the best days ever and felt like a real adventure - we covered every part of Petra in that one day! Joseph was so accommodating and flexed the tour to whatever we wanted to do and was very knowledgeable about all of Petra. Our driver from Amman was also very nice and accommodating - we asked before the tour to pay extra to stay over night in Wadi Musa so we could cover all of Petra in one day and see Petra by Night - which would highly recommend! Also make sure you bring trainers/walking shoes as there is quite a big distance to cover if you want to see all the way from the Siq to the Monastery (we walked 13miles over the 10/11 hours we were with Joseph!) and bring snacks but there are places to buy drinks and snacks in Petra too. Honestly the best trip would highly recommend both the driver and Joseph our tour guide, and recommend extending the tour while with the guide to see all of Petra if you can!

My driver and my guide were excellent considerate very helpful and I appreciate their helpfulness , however The company'sold me my tickets under false pretenses and did not live up to their written agreement, that cost me an extra 100 JD upon my arrival at Petra.

I took this trip alone as I was only briefly visiting Jordan on my way to visit friends in Qatar. My guide (Hasan) was amazing. He was very friendly and professional, and I felt safe at all times, especially as a woman traveling alone. He did a great job setting expectations for the day and allowed me to curate my own trip. I decided to shorten my time in Petra to allow a to visit Wadi Rum (an extra cost) as well. Upon arrival to Petra, you are assigned a separate guide to escort you through the site. It's done on a rolling basis, so it's pretty much the luck of the draw. My guide was ok, and nice but not very memorable. Hasan was great again because he let this guide know exactly what my plans were. Make sure to have enough local currency as there are many shops inside Petra (overpriced, so I'd recommend buying souvenirs before or after the complex). Once inside Petra, there are also opportunities to take a golf cart, horse or donkey on certain paths to limit walking. I highly recommend paying one of the many local boys who will offer to take you to the "high view" of the Treasury. You will definitely need some level of mobile agility to make it to the top but well worth the quick climb as you get a seemingly private bird's eye view of this world wonder.

Would not recommend this tour. It was over 400 US dollars. When we arrived, the driver found a local tour guide and paid him, essentially from the 400 I paid for the tour. The driver took almost 4 hours to get there from Amman and almost 4 hours to get back. At times I think he was driving slow to stretch the time. There were protests going on so I understand the caution. But again, at times it seemed like he was purposely going slow. I only had 3 hours in Petra. I felt rushed and did not get to see everything. The tour guide took me as far as the restaurant, had lunch and then he left. Very misleading. I would have been better off hiring a driver to go myself and paying for my own ticket once I got there. Not sure what Little Petra is so I can’t comment on it. My recommendation , take a cheaper tour or hire your own driver. You don’t need a tour guide for Petra. Everything is well laid out and between the visitor center and the Museum, they can answer any questions. There are maps everywhere as well. I believe the tour guide was rushing because I was alone so he probably figured his tip wouldn’t be as big as with a larger party. I actually planned on tipping him but he left so fast and unexpectedly, I didn’t get a chance. Both the tour guide and the driver were nice but I just think this day trip is overpriced. Definitely not worth 400 US dollars.

This was the trip of a lifetime! A great value for the time and money. Our driver arrived on time and though his English was limited, he took great care of us. An English speaking guide was available by phone during the drive and then met us at the gate to take us through Petra. Joub was delightful! Full of knowledge, fun, and gave us many helpful tips about what to look out for. We did not take advantage of the horse ride, but those who did appreciated saving themselves some of the walk. Wear comfortable shoes. It is a LONG walk. Little Petra is a quick stop that could be skipped, especially because we were satiated after the amazing Petra experience. Highly recommend this safe, friendly, and memorable experience.

This was incredibly awesome to visit Petra. My driver was Ahmed and my tour guide was. Basel. He was extremely knowledgeable in the history. Just be warned of those trying to get you for horse, donkey and camel rides to the restaurant. They will try to pressure you to pay for these. Also, if you aren't big on walking, I'd suggest the golf cart that they have.

We had a great trip and would recommend booking! The car was very comfortable, and our driver Ahmad was friendly and awesome! He gave us lots of good tips and food recommendations. In Petra, we had a great guide and plenty of time to explore. We were even able to make it all the way to the monastery. After that, we were too tired to visit Little Petra. I slept most of the ride back.

We had an amazing experience on this tour. First of all, our driver Mahmoud was the best we could have asked for and made the tour even better. He made us feel comfortable and welcomed us to Jordan by sharing stories, advice and even some local food with us. He was very attentive and was happy to make any stops, if needed, on the long drive to Petra and back. We also had Mahmoud for another Zaid tour that we did and would highly recommend him to anyone visiting Jordan. The tour of Petra was also excellent. We had Hussain as our guide and we were in awe of how knowledgeable he was. He shared so much information with us and was happy to answer any questions and have conversations about anything we saw. He always made sure we were ok, giving us the option to take different routes (depending on how much we were willing to walk) and he would always stop and take pictures for us whenever we wanted. Overall, we were walking for around 4 hours and managed to see so much. There was the option of a horse ride included in our ticket, but we opted against it as we preferred to walk instead. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to go to Petra. A big thank you to Mahmoud and Hussain for the wonderful service they provided!

I highly recommend booking this trip, but be cautious about the horse ride. I was brutally thrown off a horse, despite me telling the locals I didn't want to go fast. My driver was very pleasant, pointing out sights on the way to Petra and explaining the history of Jordan. He showed great concern for my health when I reappeared injured from horse ride, offering to drive me straight to the hospital. My tour guide was knowledgeable about Petra, and knew great spots to take pictures!

Let me first warn you all that Petra...

Let me first warn you all that Petra is/was a city. When it says bring comfortable walking shoes, they are not kidding! You will be doing a lot of walking first down, then up! Also know, that Petra is not close to Amman, you will have a very long car ride to and back, so be prepared! With that said, our driver was spot on punctual and collected us at our hotel. He told us it was going to be a very long ride and that we would most likely have one stop. All these things were true, but he navigated through traffic and construction with a masters skill and we made the journey well. Upon arrival, we were told where to meet the driver after our tour just down the street and we were introduced to the guide and we were on our way... The guide did a great job explaining Petra and points as we walked. The guide knew all the photo op stops and didn't let us miss one shot and helped my wife get just the right shot!! The guide portion is about 2 to 2.5 hours. This is pretty much stop and go walking at an accelerated pace. For some it may seemed rushed but in reality, Petra is a city and you have a long way to go, a ton of information to acquire and a limited amount of time to get things done. Though the treasury is the known all of Petra's sandstone beauty will keep you baffled, bewildered and simply amazed as you view through the necropolis to the acropolis. The only down sides would be that after all that walking in the hot sun, lunch was not quite on our minds, and it was a tad chaotic. Also, once you have seen Petra, little Petra pales by comparison. So my advice is, rest up, sleep on the ride there, get your walking shoes ready and know you have a nice long drive back where you can rest some more! I highly recommend this tour, but warn it is physically demanding. Side note: There are donkey's, horses and camels that you can ride. Perhaps walk down and ride back is a better option for some, at an extra expense.

DO NOT FORGET TO CONFIRM YOUR TOUR 24 HOURS PRIOR or you will have a meltdown, similar to the one I had, on the morning of our tour March 2, 2018. I am usually on top of things, however I missed the bit about confirming 24 hours prior or you forfeit the tour with no refund. I read that vital information clearly stated on the vouchers in the morning, about 30 minutes prior to our scheduled pick up time. I ran to reception and we called the number on our voucher, as well as the emergency number provided therein with no luck whatsoever. I literally began sobbing, as the entire trip was booked around our Petra visit, when Omar, our driver for the day, walked in smiling. He calmed me down and said he will wait until we have breakfast. He had a great personality, is a very skilled driver which is very important, as traffic in Jordan is mad and spoke English fluently another plus. We did the obligatory bathroom/refreshments pit stop and admired the items for sale see pictures. Once at Petra, Omar got our entry tickets and introduced us to our guide, who arrived shortly after us. We had an amazing time inside Petra and were bewildered how huge it is. Three full days of exploring would not do it justice, but the few hours we had inside were enough for a first visit. We were lucky that it was sunny, as a week prior they had flooding and our guide showed us pictures and a video of people walking in knee high water. For an extra 10 each he took us up above and across from the amphitheater. It was totally worth it as the views and the pictures we took were breathtakingly spectacular. He was very knowledgeable, had a great personality and knew the best angles and spots to take pictures. At Al-Khazneh, we were approached by some of the bedouins, who were hanging around and who offered to take us up the rock, so that Al-Khazneh is behind and below us and showed us pictures of it. They haggled and came down in price every time I said la, shukran no, thanks. I REALLY wanted to do it but our guide advised against it, as the staircase they wanted us to use was unsafe. He suggested a better route, but that started back at the main entrance and we would not have had enough time to see anything else. So this will have to wait until our next trip. We met our driver back at the Sandstone restaurant, located within a short walking distance from the main entrance and after a quick meal, drove to Little Petra. After seeing Petra, it was an underwhelming visit. It is free to visit, but we were accosted by a bedouin at the entrance a rope asking for a donation. We said we had already paid as part of the tour and he tried to shame us for not supporting them financially on the spot as well. After we went in we got followed by various younger bedouins who offered to be our guides. We said we would rather explore by ourselves and we wont be able to pay them if they came along as we did not bring extra cash and they wouldn't let up for a while only to angrily walk away, muttering under their breath. This was mildly annoying but did not take away from all the fun we had on our tour. If you think the price for this tour is steep consider this - the round trip from downtown Amman to Petra, little Petra and back to Amman is around 500 kms or 310 miles or 7 hours drive AND it is cheaper through Viator rather than booking it through the hotel - yes, we checked! : Overall, a fantastic day trip, exploring one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a great value for money! Would highly recommend!

Had an amazing day trip to Petra! My driver, Omar, was very friendly and accommodating. The drive is 3 hours from Amman so we stopped halfway for coffee and a bathroom break. Petra was amazing! Had an incredible tour guide named Abraham at Petra who is an archaeologist so his knowledge was impressive. After 3 hours or so at Petra went to a tasty buffet lunch in the town just outside Petra then headed back to Amman. It was a long but great day about 10 hours total but definitely worth it!
