Highly recommend

Amazing place. Large variety of animals that look very well taken care of. I especially enjoyed the free roaming peacocks and lizards

Really fun! A good few hours trip from San Jose. We didn’t see too many animals but it was a fun way to use up some time and enjoy the sun. Also there was a good restaurant nearby.

It is absolutely beautiful here and much larger than what we were expecting! I had a discount with Viator so we actually ended up paying less than what was advertised on the website. Take lots of photographs! We also did NOT do a guided tour and we didn’t regret handling it this way as we had our privacy. Going on a weekday equals less people.

Very extensive beautiful reserve

KIM_H, Jan 2025
Such a beautiful reserve to wander and learn about the different types of animals! There are so much to see. The restaurant in the middle of the reserve is a nice respite for a drink and/or a meal. You can observe peacocks roaming about showing their beautiful tails as if they were modeling while dining in the patio. You can also bring in a picnic to eat in the designated picnic area.

Thank you for your support! With your visit, this how we are able to continue all of our conservation projects. Not only the Sanctuary that is open to the public, but it also funds our wildlife hospital and rehabilitation center, breeding programs for endangered species, as well as our release sites which protect over 2000 acres of reforested land. So even though you felt the cost was a little high, please know it is a huge help for us and the animals of Costa Rica!

The whole place is wonderful and we did get to see most of the animals. Great spot would recommend anyone to check it out if in the area.

Fantastic wildlife viewing

Great wildlife and your entrance fees go to an incredibly worthy cause! Working very hard to save Costa Rica’s endangered birds and animals.

Horrible and too much expensive

Edwin_C, Sep 2023
You can barely see the animal because is so much trees and also too expensive.. I recommend going to a different zoo

Response from Host, Sep 2023

Hello Edwin, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience at Rescate. The reason why we have a lot of trees, is so that the animals can live in the most natural environment possible. We understand that sometimes this makes them a little harder to see, but this is their home, and we want to make sure they are living a high quality of life with us. Usually if you go slow and take your time, you can spot most animals! With your entrance fee we also support thousands of animals that enter our rescue center every year, with our main goal of releasing them back into the wild. We also have breeding programs for endangered species, over 2000 acres of private reforested reserves and with your visit you are assisting in all of these projects, so we thank you for your support!

Very small and expensive

Dardlaie_B, Jul 2022
Far away from the city center and small. Buy directly from zooave, viator charges too much. Not worth the money

This isn't a tour, it's just...

Pamela_S, Feb 2018
This isn't a tour, it's just admission to Zoo Ave the ave is for birds in Spanish, not short for avenue. Lots of species, some native to Costa Rica, but most either seized as pets and not capable of living in the wild, and others injured, like the toucan with the prosthetic beak. It's perhaps not up to the standards of a US wildlife rescue facility, but a lot for a small country and a good experience.

Mexicano en Costa Rica
