The Douro valley is otherworldly in it's beauty, and this small group tour was wonderful. There were 7 of us, plus our fabulous driver, Anna. She negotiated the winding roads and brought us to two smaller vineyards to sample wines and have a hearty lunch. Oh, and there's a boat ride on the river, too.

Great for solo travelers. Marta is an ambassador of Porto and loves her city. She was super welcoming. It was the perfect mix of history, food and drinks! It was less about going to specific restaurants and more about trying different regional foods which I enjoyed. Definitely enjoyed and Marta should get a raise!

Our trip to a Porto winery

Our driver was Ricardo and he was very engaging, knowledgeable and fun. We stopped at a wonderful port winery and we treated to some delicious port and olive oils. The other thing is our travel mates felt like friends at the end of the trip, made it even more special. It seems that any tour companies that Viator hires turn to be excellent and reliable.

Excellent tour

We loved the city history and our tour guide spoke excellent English. Sometimes tour guides have a strong accent and it’s challenging to understand but Maria was easy to understand. I loved the cable car/gondola ride and boat ride because we would not have done it on our own. The bookstore is a big challenge with it being so crowded. Paying at the bookstore was ridiculously hard. It was also very hard at the little coffee shop for 20 people to get their drinks and then get seating. It was extremely crowded.

Great day in the valley

A great day exploring the Douro Valley by bus, train and boat. Made even more fun by our guide Vitor. It was well planned — the vineyard and winery were very interesting and port for breakfast was good! The lunch was tasty and the wine kept flowing. And views from the train and the boat were magnificent. Our small group was great fun as well. Really fun day.

Nuno was a great guide! This is a great tour for those who do not have time to go up to the Duoro wine region. Nuno was very knowledgeable about the entire process and you are given many version of the wine to taste. Since Porto is known for Port wine, this is a great way to learn more history about the city and have fun doing it.

This was the perfect activity to end our trip to Porto. You get to see the city of Porto and Gaia (the opposite side of the river) from a different perspective from the water. Isabella was an amazing guide. You get to try 3 different Portuguese wines with the option to buy a bottle while on the boat. Highly recommend!

Worthwhile excursion from Porto.

You will see a lot of interesting areas and hear the history of the colorful fishermen’s homes. If If you have a free day in Porto, this tour is worth taking! Riding the Venetian gondola was interesting. Sit in the middle of the gondola otherwise you may not hear the tour leader as he points out sites in various languages. The pick up point was hectic because not clear to the travelers. We were told to look for « a guide wearing red ».
