I purchased a tour in the cathedral and a lift ride to the rooftop.
The tour guide was knowledgeable and with decent (not great, but ok) English, but the audio system was horrible. Initially, when participants commented on it, the guide pretty much said "what can I do? It's the system", eventuality he changed the mic and it was a bit better, but not much, and we all missed part of the explanations. He repeated some of what he said, but not all.
At the end of the cathedral tour he collected the radios and told us where we go up by stairs or lift if we purchased these options, but did not get us tickets and told us to connect to with the tour operators for more details. Thev tour operators were not around with us.
Fortunately, I had Whatsapp number for them, and when connecting with them, they said there apologize but "due to technical issues we cannot go up and they will partially refund us".
We felt misled by horrible and dishonest communication. The tour operators met us at the beginning and gave us tickets for cathedral and museum only, without even telling us that we will not go up to the rooftop. Nobody met us later to explain or sent a clarification or any connection, we had to connect with them.
Moreover, if we had known early or ahead of time that they did not get us the lift tickets, we could have tried to get rooftop tickets, by the time we tried there were none for the day.
I actually ordered another duomo tour earlier who communicated with me a week before the tour saying it was overbooked and allowed me to cancel and find another tour, which I really appreciated. Those operator was not as honest or communicative or responsible enough to take care of its customers.
We are deeply disappointed, as we had to leave Milan the following day.
Beware of this operator. It was our worst experience ever through viator, and we took more than 10 tours over the last couple of years.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the disappointment caused by the missing rooftop visit and the difficulties with the audio equipment.
Unfortunately, a ticketing issue that day meant that the tickets provided did not include rooftop access as booked. We immediately refunded the rooftop portion of your booking, but we understand that this could not replace the experience you had planned, particularly as you were leaving Milan the following day.
We also acknowledge that we should have clearly explained the situation at the meeting point. You should not have had to contact us yourself to find out what had happened, and we sincerely apologise for this communication failure.
Thank you for acknowledging our guide’s knowledge. We regret that the audio problems prevented you from fully enjoying the explanations and that the overall experience fell short of your expectations
It was a very good tour. We were able to skip the line for the Duomo and Mario was able to avoid the crowds so we were able to see all the highlights and gave us all the historical facts that made the tour very interesting.
An excellent tour, very informative and the access to the various parts of the Duomo both inside and on the roof was amazing.
Wonderful tour with a good explanation of the history and importance of the Duomo.
Note that meeting point shown on the bookings is not always accurate and there are no signs or flags for the meeting point. So you need to ask to find the right spot and tour leader
The tour lasts for 45’ only, & the guide did not show passion at all. When we went up the lift to the rooftop,, we were told our tickets had expired, & we had to go to the ticket office to exchange the ticket, which spent us 30’ tine walking here & there & waited in the queue for ticketing affairs. So troublesome. 😞😞😣😣
Our tour guide was Barbara and she was fantastic! So much knowledge but such a wonderful and fun personality! Loved every minute of this once in a lifetime experience!
With a horrible rain, we had difficulty locating our guide. Like others we waited by the designated location but it was confusing. Once we entered the church our guide did a great job of explaining the importance of the Duomo and had recommendations for viewing the underground. It was difficult to always hear what was shared and truly appreciate his background knowledge. Although we had lift tickets to the roof, the torrential rain meant the rooftop was closed.. There was no clear direction as far as options for redemption later. We purchased new rooftop tickets and came back the following week . The rooftop added an incredible experience.
I got a rooftop ticket handed to me by the tour operator that’s expired says the ticket control when they scanned it at entry to rooftop. It was a half-baked experience. I ended up buying new ticket for over $30. Viator I believe did nothing. If they did, perhaps refunded me a fraction of the cost, a gesture that is outrightly insulting rather than consoling.
Short, but to the point. The guide explained the history of the Cathedral and how it was built. He gave us a lot of information inside and then explain how to get to the Terrace on our own. Definitely worth it.
Guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. You get a better experience with a guide. The roof top tour portion is somewhat separate. Still apart of the tour, however, travel to the rooftop is on your own. I would recommend this tour
You can get tickets cheaper online or in person.
The tour was approx 10 minutes along…I was expecting more. Then the guide left us to explore roof top ourselves. He gave us like 5 facts and left.
Linda was lovely she had good information and explained a lot about the construction. More steps than reported in the information, that could be a problem for some.
The experience was wonderful. The meet up was a little confusing. The Piazza was busy and tour group leaders aren’t allowed to carry flags, etc. The Duomo is lovely! We took the lift to the roof but there are still many steps to the top and then down again. The stained glass was incredible. And all the statuary , of course. If you are in Milano, you shouldn’t miss this!
The trip to the rooftop of the Duomo was great! We explored all around and thoroughly enjoyed the views!
Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, funny and made the experience very enjoyable. Was above and beyond what I expected.
The tour was about 50 minutes and our guide was fantastic. He brought along a iPad to show us various facts about the cathedral and its construction. The rooftop was self guided and worth every penny. Such an extraordinary structure.
Very impressive. Guide was very knowledgeable. Shared stories about the Last Supper and each of the 12 disciples.
The meetup area was clear, making it was easy to find the guide before the tour. The tour organizer also explained how the tickets worked (adult tickets were just one piece of paper/QR code; children had separate tickets for the church and the rooftop). Note that adult tickets are also good for entry to the museum, but children tickets are not-- that wasn't clear ahead of time, and only after I asked the tour operator onsite did she explain it. The tour itself was decent but pretty basic and seemed a little rushed, it went a little shorter than advertised (40-45'). We were able to go right in, and afterward there was no line whatsoever for the lift to the roof. The cathedral and the views from rooftop are incredible.
Italy is super hot in June. Recommend the LIFT to the top. Lots of stairs. Remember u need to keep shoulders covered when entering the Cathedral. Wonderful history and exquisite stained glass windows!
Worth it and not worth it.
Worth it for us due to time constraints we had. Knowing that we had it planned and able to see it all gave me piece of mind. Our daughter had a travel conflict so we had 1 afternoon to see both Duomo and Last supper. The guide was great. He had pictures and stories that explained the interior- you do rooftop on your own. It was towards the end of the day and he knew one area would be shut down soon so he made sure to get us there to see it. The stain glass art was beautiful. Side note- I highly recommend you take elevator up to top.
But all of this comes at a premium price: we paid about $80 a person and you can get interior and rooftop tickets for 30 online. So if you have the time, I would purchase on own and follow along with Rick Steves guide. Almost everything in Rick Steves walking guide was mentioned by our guide.
If you can get tickets to the roof and the church don’t do this. Guide’s English barely legible. The headphones given were full of static. Only do if it is last minute. You do skip the line
Great tour, mostly at our own pace which made it nicer. Would recommend for jumping queues and access to the rooftop. The museum was interesting too.
Knowledgeable tour guide with a sense of humor! Viator tours are a well-oiled machine. Good experience!
Everything ran smoothly. Met at meeting point with no problem. Great guide. We enjoyed getting an introductory tour and was great for us.
The guide was good and knowledgeable
Wasn’t happy with the standing. In line with everyone else part You pay for the skip the line you should get skip the line
Guide was knowledgeable and fun.
Loved the high points he touched on. He was fun to spend an hour with!
Future travelers think twice!
Main complaint is the “guided” tour was guided for 15-2mins vs. what’s advertised.
Balance of tour was self guided.
Secondly just buy the tickets yourself once at Duomo. $26 euro combo with rooftop lift vs. the +$70 here for basic google info.
The cathedral was beautiful inside and out. The rooftop was the best! Weather was perfect to enjoy the sunshine on the rooftop. Took the lift up, and the stairs down. Able to visit the museum which we didn’t expect, statues were amazing.
Unfortunately our tour of the Duomo and rooftop was quite a poor experience. This was not down to the guide, Roberto, who was clearly very knowledgeable. We could sense Roberto’s frustration when at every point of the tour he was told to move on as the Duomo was going to close! He was cut short right at the start when he attempted to describe the outside of the Duomo to us but was asked to move us on inside. We then did a whistle stop tour with no time to explore inside the Duomo on our own as was promised. We were then just told ‘the stairs are round the corner’ for doing the rooftop part of the ‘tour’. No ‘tour’ involved in this part, it is just go yourself! We do not feel we received the promised tour and it was definitely not value for money. The tour operator should not have booked a tour at that time if the Duomo was going to close so soon after the start of the tour as they could not deliver what was promised. I am trying to work out how to submit a complaint on Viator but it appears almost impossible to do so!
They were very accommodating and helpful and the tour was fantastic! We would highly recommend this tour!
