Itinerary
Meet your small group and expert local guide in central Lisbon for a guided walking tour. After a brief introduction, learn how this 19th-century historical square was built with typical Portuguese stones to resemble the waves of the nearby ocean. From here, follow your guide to Restauradores Square and see an obelisk rise towards the sky, exemplifying Portugal’s ascent to independence from Spain in 1640.
Nearby, visit the Rossio Central Station, and listen as a train heads into the tunnel towards Sintra. Hear how this 19th-century engineering marvel was built and stands as one of Portugal’s most impressive accomplishments. Next, head to historic Carmo Square, home of the 1974 Carnation Revolution. Here, learn how Portugal’s previous dictatorial regime collapsed after a 48-year rule. Stroll onward to reach the charming Chiado neighborhood full of boutiques, theaters, bookstores, and vintage cafés.
Keep walking to and admire the heart of the city: Baixa, Lisbon's Downtown, which was completely rebuilt after an 18th-century earthquake, obeying new rules of urbanism and anti-systemic architecture, based on innovative solutions for its time.
Continue to Alfama, an old quarter known for its Moorish heritage and fado music. Learn about Portugal’s melancholic music as you walk by fado restaurants tucked in between alleys and down winding streets.
Snap some beautiful photos and then walk to your last stop, the majestic Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio). Hear how the reception hall was used to welcome travelers arriving from the Atlantic, before your tour concludes and you continue exploring on your own.

Be prepared to learn a lot about the history of Portugal and wear comfortable shoes as the tour entails quite a bit of walking.

Carlos was a fantastic guide! We toured Lisbon and learned so much about the history of the city and people of Portugal. Five stars - highly recommend.
Jim_H, May 2026
Pedro was filling in for a colleague and certainly brought a very insightful perspective to the tour. If receiving a condensed view of Portugal’s history fulfills your expectations of a city walking tour you could not have a better guide.
Aimee_F, May 2026
Felipe was terrific - very knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of information and a terrific overview of the city.
Alex_S, May 2026
Catarina was knowledgeable and charming. Loved the pacing and seeing all of the main neighborhoods. Great recommendations for additional activities and sights to see later!

Had a great time with Alex. She was very knowledgeable and fun! Would highly recommend this walking tour as an intro to Lisbon.
Brian_G, May 2026
I would highly recommend this tour with Joana! She was one of the best guides we’ve had anywhere. She is from Lisbon and has so much knowledge of the city and its history. Her tour is filled with so much history, humor, helpful tips and more!

Friendly and courteous tour guide, excellent explanations, great sense of humor. Interesting insights.

Great orientation to Lisbon, familiarize yourself with the varied neighborhoods and beautiful squares.

Pedro was a very knowledgeable guide and gave us a very thorough tour of Lisbon highlights and history. Highly recommend for your first time in the city.
Kevin_H, May 2026
Carlos was a great guide. Very informative and he spoke clearly so was very easy to understand. There were ‘secret’ elevators that helped navigate the elevation changes.
winne_M, May 2026
Martin our guide was excellent-funny, his English was easy to understand, made the 3 hours walk enjoyable with informational stops . Plus 3 different stops for local yummies like Pastel Del Nata, Salted cod with white wine and finally my favorite, Ginjinha in chocolate cup! There were 12 of us -perfect size. Some hills to show culture of Lisbon but doable.

FABULOUS tour with Martin! His enthusiasm and knowledge were wonderful! We covered a lot of grounds and also got three little tastings along the way. Great value for the money! One note it is rather hilly so if you have mobility issues, this might not be for you. Otherwise definitely do it!
Response from Host, May 2026
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you had such a great experience with Martin — we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to him.
It’s fantastic to know you enjoyed the tastings and found the tour to be good value. And thank you as well for pointing out the hilly terrain — it’s very helpful for future guests to know.
We hope to welcome you again on another tour soon!
Regards,
Antonio

Great half day walking tour. Alex kept a great pace that wasn’t too taxing. She was also very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. We enjoyed the tour and her dining recommendations for after.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour as a kickoff to our Lisbon visit. Filipa is an excellent guide - knowledgeable and friendly, and conducted the tour at a very comfortable pace. Highly recommended!
Ethel_B, May 2026
The walk into neighborhoods was well paced with two tasting spots. The small history lesson helped enlighten the experience in seeing the sites of importance. Our tour guide was enthusiastic and fun to be with.
Tzveta_K, May 2026
Alex was a fantastic guide, we saw so much around Lisbon and learned so many interesting facts! Would highly recommend this tour, the treats and stops were all great and well thought out.
Sian_B, Apr 2026
Martin was a fun, enthusiastic guide full of interesting information. 8 in the group which was perfect. 3 stops to sample local food plus plenty of photo opps! So helpful, cannot recommend highly enough!
Donna_K, Apr 2026
The walking tour of Lisbon started at ground level to the heights of the city. It required a lot of walking, but our tour guide was careful to work in necessary breaks with traditional Portuguese treats along the way. The tour was chocked full of historical info and major city sights and neighborhoods.
Jennifer_H, Apr 2026
Everything for this tour was very organized. The emails were clear and it was easy to find the meeting place and find the tour guide. The tour guide was very friendly. However, the issue with the tour was that there was too much talking and standing around. It took over 30 minutes before we started walking and we walked a half a block in an hour. It was too slow paced for us.
Jenifer_G, Apr 2026
Wow! William was so knowledgeable about the areas and history. This was through an area that I hadn’t been in. This is a great tour!
Westley_M, Apr 2026
Excellent tour. Our guide Fillipa was very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. Great way to see the important bits of Lisbon. Highly recommended.
Lucas_W, Apr 2026
We had a great tour with Natalia. She took us through several different neighborhoods around Lisboa. She took her time explaining the history of the city and is truly a historian of the city as well as Portugal. We would highly recommend this tour!
Vanessa_M, Apr 2026
Our guide, Pedro, was excellent. He provided a very insightful information and history of Portugal and Lisbon specifically.
Elizabeth_P, Apr 2026
This is an excellent way to get a brief glimpse into the history of the city; seeing so many beautiful buildings and viewpoints along the way. Pedro was so knowledgeable, kind and he made all the history fun! Would absolutely recommend a smaller group activity like this vs. a large tour group with the plugged-in audio.
Kim_T, Apr 2026
Very informative but be prepared to walk a lot up hill and down hill. Not a tour for anyone with mobility issues.
Daniel_F, Apr 2026
Jose gave a wonderfully immersive walking tour full of history, humor, and the quirks of Lisbon (an endlessly quirky city). He paced the tour to our group and our interests, didn't mind staying longer when we were interested or moving on faster when we weren't, and was constantly telling us what to expect next. When what to expect is 58 stairs, you appreciate the warning! The food and wine on the tour were also the perfect amount at just the right times. Jose gave excellent recommendations for spending the rest of our time in port, too!
Gunjan_K, Apr 2026
Our guide, Martin was super knowledgeable. At the same time, he kept the discourse fun & very engaging. I am glad I opted for this walking tour. Highly recommended!
Lee_C, Apr 2026
This was such an amazing tour. Martin was high energy and a wealth of information. There is no way we could have even scratched the surface on our own even if we researched this place for a week. We highly recommend!! 😃
