Best Teen Birthday Ever

Such an amazing day with such a great guide! Tamares made our day extra special by letting the folks at Monkey Home know it was my daughter's birthday. She got to hang with monkeys, turtles, guinea pigs, a donkey - and her favorite animal in the world, a capybara. Tamares then took us to the city for some photos with the pink street, umbrella street, and independence park. My family thought we were crazy for booking an excursion outside of the cruise as a mother and teen daughter. But I can attest that the other reviews are right - Tamares is an excellent guide and we felt totally safe during our time in the DR.

Puerto Plata is an amazing city to visit. So great to see the culture and everything this country has to offer. Carlos is an amazing tour guide with lots of knowledge and kindness as well as being a good driver to navigate these busy streets with crazy traffic. He even let us stop at the jumbo superstore to pick up some coffee and vanilla at non-tourist prices. Thank you, Carlos for everything. If you are thinking of booking it excursion to Puerto Plata, you definitely cannot go wrong with Carlos.

Dominican Republic Puerto Plata waterfall excursion with junior

Junior is the perfect guide for the excursion. After a very long walk through the jungle, the waterfalls were a tiny piece of heaven. Everything was so beautiful and so fun. This is a must do excursion when you’re in Puerto Plata. I recommend going on the weekend when there are no cruise ships docked. It was great not being crowded. Definitely book with Junior. If you’re thinking about the excursion, he is awesome.

Andy was our tour guide. Because we were the only persons on the tour, he personalized it for us by stopping at the places we wanted to see and skipped those spots we didn't care to see. This gave us more time at the desired locations. Andy was personable, tried hard to answer our questions even if it meant translating from Spanish to English. 5 stars if not more!

Hits the high points!

Misael, aka Max, was a great tour guide. He arrived at the prearranged pick up point right on time and was friendly, outgoing and had lots of information to share with our group. He had a cooler full of cold water to share. The Van comfortably fit our party of six and was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the sites of Puerto Plata and the beach where we ended our excursion was lovely.

We loved this excursion! The Team was amazing and very accomodating!!! It was such a fun experience going through the roads, jungle, rivers and beach! Loved the stop with the locals to learn about their cigar making, coffee and cacao. We will definitely come back again with Degen Buggy and the Team! Communication was amazing from the time we booked before cruising until we were done!!! Thank you Lotta!!!! This entire experience was way more than we expected!!! PS - They take photos for you that you can purchase and it may also include videos!!! Well worth the cost ($55.00) for over 250 pics/videos!!!

So much fun!

We had such a great time. Our driver Fernando was excellent and kept us intrigued as he shared the history of his beautiful island with us. Great story teller! Our guide Jonathan was fantastic. He took great pics of us and I'm not photogenic. The adventure was so much fun! They got us back to our ship with plenty of time. I highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing. We started with the monkeys and ended at the falls. If you’re not up for a challenge and don’t want to walk/hike, sit this one out! It’s a difficult climb to the top. However, our driver, guide, and photographer were amazing. My son and I, had an absolute blast! I’d for sure do it again!

You’re treated like royalty! BOOK IT!

First of all, we were late and they were very accommodating and greeted us with open arms, smiles, and a ice cold water of bottle (which was appreciated after running to the meet up spot). From the start, it was awesome. The women greeted us with a smile, a nice AC van, and just taken care of us hand and foot the whole day for us, our family and children. When we went to zip line, you can tell they knew everyone and we were put in the front of the lines for zip lining, food, and more. The lunch is a buffet style but THAT FOOD IS AMAZING! We were Treated like royalty all day. Chocolate the photographer was amazing. He kept up with the hike, the kids, and got every moment from start to finish. He was awesome! Good things to know about this excursion: The meet up spot is about a 20-25 minute walk which ends up outside Amber Cove Port at a van (you’re going to think you’re lost but keep going). Water shoes are mandatory at the zip line spot so make sure you bring them (they have some for sale $20 and rent $5 - but they are rough and not comfortable) Their is about a 45 minute hike which is not for the faint, so if you have a person who is old, overweight, or even a young kid who isn’t athletically inclined - you’re going to be carrying them. (You do stop multiple times which helps catching your breath, taking a sip of water, and getting pictures). Bring cash for tips (they expect it but deserve it) ALL IN ALL - BOOK THIS EXCURSION! You and your family regret it!

Book this! You won’t regret it

This was the best experience ever! The guides were awesome! We got picked up outside cruise port so it was a bit of walk but worth it. They provided lockers for your things. They will get wet and muddy ALL OF IT WILL. Bring water shoes, cash and phones for photos. Leave the rest. Goggles are an extra $5. You make a couple of stops. First one they give you some island education and samples of tea, mamajuna, and fruit from the island. There are shops and drinks for purchase here as well. A bit pricey. But remember this is how they make a living. The second stop is at beach where I ran like crazy to jump in. Water was beautiful. There’s food and drinks for purchase here. The food is fantastic as always. Mofungo, ceviche, fresh fish. I will definitely do this again when I go back!

Great time!!

Great adventure to see areas you never see. There are not a lot of times where you go full throttle in the biggie, but several times to get wet. Visiting the native town was a great experience and the beach was a nice way to end the day. Staff was amazing. They were informative and attentive the whole time. I am a taller guy, they refused to let me stay crammed in the buggy and brought a bigger one out for us to use to make it more enjoyable.
