What To Expect

This Monkeyland and Puerto Plata tour starts with pickup from your hotel in either Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete, Playa Dorada or Imbert. This tour can accommodate up to 100 travelers in one group—keeping costs down for you.

Once everyone is picked up, enjoy a smooth ride over to Monekyland and enjoy a ride in an open-air safari truck. Keep an eye out for wildlife, such as squirrel monkeys, as you go. Then, stop and under the supervision of staff, put out a plate of fruit to get the monkeys to come to you.

After your Mokeyland visit, your guide takes you to a local’s countryside home in Puerto Plata. See for yourself how a local lives in the area without electricity or running water. Also learn about the history and cultural traditions of this Caribbean island.

Your combo group tour ends with drop-off back at your hotel.

It was a great time! Delmis (tour guide) and Demetrio (driver) picked us up from the hotel on time, we then rode to pick up the rest of the group and headed over to Monkeyland. We were able to see the towns on the way and enjoyed pretty views. When we arrived at Monkeyland, we were shown how the locals live and saw a live presentation on the coffee and hot chocolate they make with organic local beans. We then went inside the monkey area and were immediately greeted by the big group of small monkeys waiting for some food. We spent over 30 minutes with them, and it was definitely worth it! We were able to take photos and videos ourselves, and they also had a photographer taking photos that we were able to buy at the shop later (we had 24 photos for $35). Last stop of the tour was a local souvenir factory, where we saw people crafting animal figures from stones which we we were able to purchase if we wanted to. That concluded the tour, we then headed back to our hotel. Overall a wonderful time, the guide and driver were great as well! Highly recommend! Note: take some nausea meds, it’s a bumpy ride… wish I had…

Do not book! Canceled at 2am the morning of tour!

Do not book! Tour cancelled the morning of at 2am and our meet up time was 9am. I called the tour company and they were rude and unhelpful. I still have not received a refund from Viator even with the tour being cancelled from the company. You can get to money house on your own for less and you don’t need to hire Viator to take you there. Very disappointing- I thought Viator would be more helpful.

Visiting Monkeyland in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic was one of the absolute highlights of our trip! It’s such a unique, interactive experience—especially if you love animals. The squirrel monkeys are incredibly friendly and will climb right onto your shoulders, arms, and even your head if you let them! It felt surreal having them gently take food right out of our hands. The staff was knowledgeable and guided us the entire time, making sure both the guests and the monkeys were safe and comfortable.

We expected to spend a significant amount of time with monkeys. While we did have about 45 minutes, the rest of the 9-3 pm day (we expected to be back at resort by 130) was spent on stops not of interest to us such as shopping at some local boutiques. Monkeys were cute but long day for a short time interacting!

I know there are good reviews on here and that is what I trusted but unfortunately we didn’t even get to have an experience. They cancelled the booking we made due to weather conditions the night before even though it was a beautiful day not sure why they cancelled. Anyways that wasn’t the issue, they said our booking was rescheduled for the following date but messaged them twice to confirm pickup time and never got an answer. After 24 hours of no communication I contacted Viator support and just requested a refund. We had a schedule and it’s sad that their lack of communication ruined the last day we were in puerto plata. Still haven’t received an answer. Please DO NOT book with them. The lack of communication was really disappointing. We could have tried doing another activity on our last day if they would have at least given me an answer. Terrible!!!!

The experience was fun. The ride was on time, was greeted by the tour guide, who was friendly from the start. Picked up a few guest before we arrived to the destination. Upon arrival we were greeted by the handler(s). Everyone was personal and made the experience one to remember.

Monkeys save the day

The Monkeys were amazing and are the only reason this review was not lower. The communication on how to coordinate with the drivers was poor or none existent. The staff claimed.. they came to hour hotel to pick us up which was not true. But again the monkeys were pretty great.

Perfect for children and adults

A fun experience all over. Our guide Delmis was great. Obviously the monkeys were the highlight, especially for our 6 year old. So cute and all over us. But we also loved the kitchen where we were shown how the Domenican coffee and the famous Mama Juana was made. And of course, we got to try. We also absolutely loved the transport in an open safari bus. Yes, it was noisy but for us it was charming to really feel the vibe out on the street and hear the chaos. Love it. Overall 10 out of 10 :)

I had a good time at the Monkey land activity. The monkeys were cute. Orlando, our driver, was great! He grabbed my bags and put them on the bus. Be prepared for the monkeys to possibly pee and defecate on you, as this was me and my husband’s experience. But hey, it’s nature right?

The monkeys are sweet and gentle. If someone is afraid of them they will change there mind.I rarely do animal experiences as the animal care can make me sad. This place was so clean and you know it's a healthy,enriching environment for them and much of the fees are actually going to there care.

Absolutely terrible, most unauthentic experience ever. There was no real interaction with the monkeys and it felt like it was all for a photo opportunity, of which you had to pay for at the end. We were led into a habitat with a ton of people and little to no space, sat on benches to have a singular seed placed on our head for the monkeys to eat and “interact with us.” Plus minus 10 second interaction. They came around again with some fruits, but only kept the monkeys with you long enough for a few photos. Since we were a huge group, people travelling in 2s had almost no time with the monkeys compared to the families and groups of 4+. It was really disappointing and all lasted a whopping 35 minutes. The worst part was how they tried to stretch out the “half day aka 4 hour excursion” with coffee, and a stop at a factory. It really wasn’t worth the money. If you want to see monkeys like we did- don’t support this, the monkeys had no real “habitat.” Rather spend your money somewhere worthwhile on an experience that can last a lifetime.

Visiting Monkeyland was a unique experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. We had the added benefit of experiencing Dominican culture through an interactive presentation and visiting an open-air market with products created by local artisans. The whole day was delightful and I highly recommend it to other travelers.

This was on my bucket list and I can mark it off. The monkeys always bring smiles and laughs to all. They are such adorable creatures. For photos, you have better interactions by standing and not sitting. The coffee, chocolate and whiskey tastings were great. Bernie and Flor were fantastic and the stop at the museum was a treat. Handmade items were great!

The tour guide was great !! He also spoke many languages which was fun to listen to, he was also very knowledgeable - named Floricel, I believe (nickname flower). The bus that picked us from our hotel was very clean and air conditioned…When we got to Monkeyland, the experience was overall great, once we went inside the cage, we had monkeys on our head, arms, and shoulders with their soft little hands running around... would have been nice to be able to walk around in the monkey enclosure for a bit. It was more of a "sit down and we bring the monkeys to you " type of experience. There was also a tasting of mama Juana, hot chocolate, and coffee which was really good. Definitely would recommend it !

Miscommunication of Company

We were told that due to numbers we would have to be rescheduled for a different day. We rescheduled, and on the day of pick up, we waited for an hour at the agreed upon pick up location. After multiple conversations, we were told that the previous employee that had contacted us to reschedule, had some sort of confusion within the company to get that fully rescheduled. Therefore, no pick up, no tour, and a not so happy customer for their last day at the DR.
