What are people saying about Puerto Plata

Unforgettable!
This is the company to use if you book this excursion! It's great on its own, but the people made it unforgettable! I have to name names. Daniella checked us in (so easy) and rode in the air conditioned van with us, telling us all we needed to know. We got all the attention because we were the only two that showed up. William was a good and safe driver both to and from the falls. Upon arrival, we met Flaco, our hiking guide. Normally we would join with other groups for this, but the timing was so lucky. My wife and I had a private tour with Flaco and our paparazzi, Chocolatte. We had them all to ourselves! We did get winded hiking up the mountain, but stopped a couple of times. I'm 69 with no medical issues, but I'm certainly in no kind of athletic shape. With picture stops and flat sections, it really wasn't too bad. Because it was only us, it took only 35 minutes. We did 5 zip lines first. Bryant and Jordan helped us at the zip lines. They were so fun and funny and put us at ease. We zipped over many jungle canopies like I always dreamed! After that, the waterfalls cooled us off and refreshed us wonderfully. We felt so alive jumping the falls and sliding the rock slides! The most special thing about this tour was Chocolatte. He was like our best friend. He stayed beside us and we talked all the way. He taught us so much about Dominican life and the jungle plants and trees. It's people like him that make these memories special. He also took over 200 pictures and 40 videos of it adventure. The cool water made our walk to the van so comfortable. We met back up with Daniella, and William who drove us to lunch in a nice little village nearby. The Dominican lunch of chicken, rice, and many other things was delicious and more than we could eat. Then we drove just a minute away to a place where we played with parrots, watched cigars being rolled, tasted chocolate, coffee, rum, and our favorite, mamajuana (Dominican's national drink). We bought some mamajuana to take home. We lucked out with this excursion and these people. Unforgettable!

Challenging and Fun
It is not for the weak! it wasnt rushed but I wouldn't recommend for those with major health problems or blood thinners. Otherwise it was fun! We didn't have to worry about bugs, the scenery was mentally relaxing, the topography physically challenging, the waterfalls refreshing! We took our 6 year old who was a little apprehensive at first but did have a good time! I'd take a bottle of water and comfortable water shoes! They give you one bottle but it was not enough. Travel to and from was fine and return to the ship was in plenty of time.

Best Teen Birthday Ever
Such an amazing day with such a great guide! Tamares made our day extra special by letting the folks at Monkey Home know it was my daughter's birthday. She got to hang with monkeys, turtles, guinea pigs, a donkey - and her favorite animal in the world, a capybara. Tamares then took us to the city for some photos with the pink street, umbrella street, and independence park. My family thought we were crazy for booking an excursion outside of the cruise as a mother and teen daughter. But I can attest that the other reviews are right - Tamares is an excellent guide and we felt totally safe during our time in the DR.

City tour of Puerto Plata with Carlos
Puerto Plata is an amazing city to visit. So great to see the culture and everything this country has to offer. Carlos is an amazing tour guide with lots of knowledge and kindness as well as being a good driver to navigate these busy streets with crazy traffic. He even let us stop at the jumbo superstore to pick up some coffee and vanilla at non-tourist prices. Thank you, Carlos for everything. If you are thinking of booking it excursion to Puerto Plata, you definitely cannot go wrong with Carlos.

As the Dominican Republic’s oldest city, you might think Puerto Plata excursions all revolve around history—but that couldn’t be further from the truth. While plenty of options delve into the past at the 16th-century fortress, many showcase the lush natural landscapes of the island. Tackle rugged terrain on an ATV adventure, go horseback riding on trails leading to waterfalls, feel your adrenaline levels soar during ziplines, and then cool off during snorkeling trips and sunset catamaran cruises.
