Kyudo is a Japanese martial art based on shooting an arrow from a Japanese bow to a target to reach a complete focus of mind and body. The main difference of kyudo and western archery is that, in kyudo, every movement follows a traditional routine that pays respect to the equipment and to the opponent. You will come to the archery range and dress in an authentic kyudo uniform, which will include dogi—the upper wear—and hakama—the lower wear. I'll give a brief explanation about the art of kyudo as well as instructions and demonstrations. With the knowledge you'll gain, you will learn to shoot arrows at the target. You'll also understand the fun and challenging aspect of the sport, particularly while wearing the traditional hakama and armor. Usually in kyudo, you are not allowed to pull the arrow unless you master the basics. But during our lesson, you will be able to enjoy the real kyudo experience even as a complete beginner. Powerful Human Experience

You can read about the Manhattan Project and the atomic bombings, but it doesn’t really hit home how earth shattering the atomic bombings were until you visit Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima. You can debate whether dropping the bombs were justified but what you can’t question after visiting this place is that the atomic bombings were terrible events involving unfathomable loss of life, and we should do everything in our power to ensure such an event never happens again. Our guide, Akie, did a great job and went out of her way to take me to some things I had read about that weren’t necessarily part of the standard tour. If you are an American visiting Japan I would do everything possible to plan a visit Hiroshima to help better understand this tragic event and how it inalterably changed the world.

Easily the best tour I’ve been on in Japan. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and conveyed the tragic details of the events leading up to and following the bombing. We saw so much of the area and learned a great deal about the sites from our guide. I can’t recommend this tour enough, it provides so much important context and framing for the events that happened here.

Great guide and educational opportunity

“Cva” loves his job and it shows. He was energetic, he has a great speaking presence and intense interest in the topics. He presented the information from a balanced and unbiased standpoint and frequently engaged the group with provocative questions and conversation. A job well done, this guide left us all feeling like we had walked on a journey in time all the way to the 1800’s and the origins of the Pacific WW2 conflict. Our group included also one Japanese national who appreciated Cva’s approach and content. The tour does not enter the museum but we went the next day. The museum was worth it but it was also a much longer time-commitment. Cva did touch on much of the content in his tour but it is nevertheless a powerful experience to hear more stories from primary sources.

Our family of 5 participated on this tour on 7/28/26. Our tour guide was Marin. She was an amazing tour guide. She was friendly, enthusiastic, informative and communicated with the group well. We have been on many tours and this tour was extremely well organized from start to finish. We covered a lot of sights in a short amount of time. There was appropriate time spent at all locations. The itinerary was explained at the beginning of the trip. Meeting times and places were clearly communicated. The bus was clean and air conditioned. We would highly recommend this tour especially if you have limited time in Hiroshima or have arrived on a day trip.

Kazuko was an amazing...

Kazuko was an amazing guide with a deep first hand connection to the Hiroshima bombing. Obviously, that portion of the experience was moving and somber, but it was also somewhat uplifting with a spirit of peace. The Iwajima portion of the tour was phenomenally beautiful and our guide really enriched it greatly. Overall, fantastic experience.

So happy we did this!

We had a blast with Hassan! He has a wealth of knowledge to share. We had very few questions and we ALWAYS have questions! We enjoyed the balance between biking, subway, ferry, and walking, especially on miyajima island. This is a physically challenging trip if you are not used to bicycling or used to being on your feet all day. Bring a back pack, umbrella, water, and snacks. Our included Lunch was okonomiyaki and was very delicious and filling. If you need more though, Miyajima has a ton of places for a quick bite or drink. Just speak up and Hassan will be happy to accomodate!

Moving Hiroshima & Miyajima tour with a fantastic guide

Truly amazing day with our guide Minori. We started with a ferry to Miyajima to see the “floating” torii gate and explore the shrines around the island. From there we took a high-speed ferry into Hiroshima and grabbed lunch at a local Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki spot. We even ran into a few locals there, always a good sign you’re in the right place. The afternoon shifted gears. We walked through the Peace Park starting at the hypocenter, then traced the impact across the surrounding buildings and streets. Minori didn’t rush it or sugarcoat anything. She gave context, told real stories, and let the weight of it land. It was especially moving hearing her personal connection, her mother was in a nearby village and saw the blast from a distance. That kind of perspective sticks with you. It’s heavy, but it’s something everyone should experience at least once. If you’re on the fence, book the tour and ask for Minori. She’s organized, thoughtful, and knows how to balance a full day without it feeling rushed or scripted.

Our Hiroshima and Miyajima tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan, and much of that was thanks to our outstanding guide, Angeles from Chile. From the moment the tour started, everything ran like clockwork. We departed on time, travelled in comfort, and returned exactly as scheduled—a testament to the excellent organization of the trip. Our adventure began with a pleasant boat ride to Miyajima Island. As soon as we arrived, the first residents to welcome us were the famous deer. Unlike some overly enthusiastic wildlife elsewhere, these deer were charming, polite, and seemed genuinely interested in meeting visitors. It was a delightful and memorable encounter. Angeles then guided us through the history and significance of Miyajima's famous Itsukushima Shrine. She explained the spiritual importance of the shrine, known for its iconic floating torii gate that appears to rise from the sea during high tide. Her storytelling brought centuries of Japanese culture and tradition to life, making the visit far more meaningful than simply admiring a beautiful landmark. One of the many fun moments of the tour was when Angeles taught us the Japanese word "Talaima”. Whether we pronounced it correctly or not is another story entirely, but it certainly added to the cultural experience and gave us all a good laugh. What truly set Angeles apart was her remarkable ability to keep the entire group engaged. She delivered her explanations fluently in both Spanish and English, seamlessly switching between the two languages without missing a beat. Her enthusiasm, warmth, and storytelling skills held the audience in rapt, almost mesmerizing attention. History lessons can sometimes feel like homework in disguise, but Angeles transformed them into captivating stories that everyone wanted to hear. After Miyajima, we continued to Hiroshima, where Angeles provided thoughtful and moving explanations about the Peace Memorial and its symbolism. She carefully explained the historical significance of the monument and the powerful message it conveys about peace, remembrance, and hope for future generations. Her presentation was informative, respectful, and deeply impactful. This tour offered the perfect combination of history, culture, education, and enjoyment. Between the scenic boat ride, the friendly deer, the magnificent shrine, the moving visit to Hiroshima, and Angeles's exceptional guiding, it was an unforgettable experience. This tour had all the sights and sounds and smells anyone would need on that special island and then to come back to Hiroshima City Center for the monuments tour was exceptional. Cesar, our guide, was efficient in his knowledgeable explanations and his guiding of us. Hiroshima and its nearby island will forever be in our hearts and mind's eyes.
