Itineraries for Your Trip to Mallorca
3 Days in Mallorca for Families
Based on a prior trip, I believe that Mallorca delivers the perfect blend of Mediterranean beaches, cultural attractions, and outdoor adventures to keep both kids and parents happy. Three days in Mallorca offers families enough time to experience the island's highlights without feeling rushed—from the historic capital of Palma to dramatic caves and pristine beaches. The island's compact size means short travel times between activities, while its excellent infrastructure makes navigating with children refreshingly easy. This kid-friendly Mallorca itinerary balances active exploration with beach relaxation, ensuring young travelers stay engaged so parents can soak up some Spanish island charm. Prepare for sunshine, turquoise waters, and memories your family will treasure long after returning home.
Summer temperatures reach 86°F (30°C), so plan beach time for mornings and late afternoons during peak season.
If you only have time for one thing, make it the vintage train journey to Sóller for stunning mountain scenery.
Start your Mallorca adventure in Palma, exploring the Gothic grandeur of La Seu Cathedral with its soaring interior and Gaudí-designed features. The sheer scale impresses visitors of all ages, and kids enjoy spotting gargoyles on the facade and marveling at the enormous rose window. Wander through the narrow streets of the Old Town, stopping for ensaimadas (sweet spiral pastries) at a traditional bakery.
After lunch, head to Bellver Castle (10 minutes by car), a unique circular fortress with panoramic city and harbor views. Children can explore the ramparts and courtyard while learning about medieval life. The surrounding pine forest offers shaded walking paths perfect for burning off energy before heading to Playa de Palma for late afternoon swimming and sandcastle building.
Dedicate the morning to Cuevas del Drach (Dragon Caves) on the east coast, not far from Palma. The underground caverns feature one of the world's largest subterranean lakes, stalactites, and a magical classical music concert performed by floating musicians—an experience that captivates even the most difficult to impress children! Arrive early to avoid crowds.
Afterward, drive to nearby Porto Cristo for lunch at the harbor, then spend the afternoon at Cala Millor or Cala Romántica, family-friendly beaches with calm, shallow waters ideal for young swimmers. Both offer amenities such as beach bars, sun loungers, and watersports rentals. If the weather isn’t quite right for swimming, head to Palma Aquarium for some alternative undersea fun.
Today, take the Tren de Sóller, a vintage wooden train that winds through orange groves and mountains, from Palma to the charming town of Sóller (about an hour away). Kids love the old-fashioned carriages and dramatic scenery. Explore Sóller's main square, then hop on the antique tram to Port de Sóller (15 minutes).
Spend the afternoon at Port de Sóller's sandy beach, where the horseshoe bay offers protected swimming and paddling opportunities. Rent pedal boats or simply relax while the kids play in the shallow water. After taking the train back to Palma (last departure is around 5pm), enjoy Mallorcan dining at a waterfront restaurant serving fresh seafood and paella or book a kid-friendly food tour.
