Carved into the cliff sides above the town and looking out over the ocean, the Fethiye Lycian Rock Tombs offer a fascinating glimpse into the city’s ancient past, dating back to 350 BC. The cluster of tombs is crowned with the grand Tomb of Amyntas, thought to be a Lycian ruler or nobleman.
Madame Tussauds needs little introduction as the world’s most famous waxworks museum, and its Istanbul doors opened in 2016. Despite its name, Istanbul’s New Mosque (Yeni Cami) is an Ottoman-era building dating to 1663. Founded in the Hellenistic era, the ancient city of Olympos rose to prominence in 78 BC as a Roman harbor town. Overlooked by the mighty peak of Mount Olympos, it sits in a deep valley southwest of Antalya, and is now a small but popular beach town, peppered with ruins and famous for its treehouse accommodations, picturesque beach, and hippie vibe.
Standing on the edges of Antalya Old Town (Kaleiçi), the Antalya Clock Tower (Antalya Saat Kulesi) testifies to the region’s storied past. Dominating Izmir’s busy Konak Square, the Izmir Clock Tower (İzmir Saat Kulesi has been a city landmark since 1901. Standing 82 feet (25 meters tall, with a fountain on each corner, its lacy tower and Arabesque arches have a distinctively Ottoman feel. The German Emperor Wilhelm II gave the 4-faced clock to the sultan as a gift.
Built in the 14th century, the impressive Bursa Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) is the largest mosque in the city. It’s located in the center of the Old City and is a prime example of early Ottoman architecture with elements of Seljuk architecture, including two minarets, 20 domes, fine wood carvings, and nearly 200 calligraphic inscriptions.
Once a glorious temple of gleaming marble and finely carved columns, the elaborate tomb of King Mausolus—the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus—was so remarkable that it became the mausoleum after which all others were named. Built between 355 and 351 BC, it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, featuring the work of some of the era’s most renowned sculptors and towering up to 164 feet (50 meters) tall.
Rising nearly 54 stories about the ground, Istanbul Sapphire is one of the city’s tallest skyscrapers. The high-tech luxury commercial and residential mixed-use project was Turkey’s (officially the Republic of Türkiye) first ecological skyscraper. The top of the building features an observation deck with a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Istanbul skyline.
Find the Tombs of Osman and Orhan (Osman Gazi Türbesi) founders of the Ottoman Empire, in Tophane Park in Bursa. Built in an Ottoman baroque style by Sultan Abdulaziz in 1863, after the original tombs were destroyed by an earthquake in 1855, the lavishly decorated tombs pay homage to the first sultan of the Ottoman Empire, his son, and their family.

Built in 1421 to serve as a mausoleum for Sultan Mehmed I Celebi, the Green Tomb (Yesil Türbe) sits above the larger Green Mosque complex in Bursa, Turkey (officially the Republic of Türkiye). The striking exterior of the tomb is decorated with blue-green tiles, most of which replaced the original tiles after an earthquake damaged the tomb in 1855.
Part of the Ephesus Archaeological Complex, the Ephesian public latrine offers a glimpse into the daily life of the city's inhabitants. This well-preserved ruin served as a communal toilet during the Roman period, providing a unique perspective on the city's history.
