Outstanding Tour and an Exceptional Guide – Kim Made the Day!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Tour and an Exceptional Guide – Kim Made the Day! Our day trip to Mt. Seorak, Nami Island, and the Garden of Morning Calm was fantastic, and a big part of that was our guide, Kim (Seongbae Kim). From the very beginning, Kim was organized and professional. He sent clear instructions the evening before, including the meeting location, weather forecast, itinerary, and helpful tips so everyone knew exactly what to expect. Throughout the day, Kim made us feel safe and well taken care of. The transportation was smooth, the schedule was well managed, and he got our group to every destination efficiently while allowing enough time to enjoy each stop. What really stood out was how informative he was. As we traveled, he shared interesting facts about Korean history, culture, and the significance of each destination. His explanations gave much more meaning to the beautiful scenery and helped us appreciate the places we visited beyond just taking photos. Kim was friendly, approachable, and happy to answer questions throughout the tour. His calm, professional demeanor made the entire experience enjoyable and stress-free. If you’re considering this Viator tour, I highly recommend it—and if you’re fortunate enough to have Kim as your guide, you’re in excellent hands. He truly helped make this one of the highlights of my trip to South Korea.

Unique opportunity for connection
My wonderful guide, Ron, gave a master class in rolling with the punches. As any experienced traveler knows, even the best plans can go awry in unexpected ways, and the trick is to make the best of things. Ron did just that, giving me instead an unexpectedly wonderful opportunity for connection and nostalgia. First of all, I ended up being the only person on the tour. The itinerary includes a picnic and games, which could have been awkward, indeed, with just one person. But Ron is a brilliant conversationalist, and we spent the picnic happily enjoying our fried chicken and chatting. When it came time for the games, Ron was quite patient with my lack of hand-eye coordination, making the games fun and entirely amusing to me. (Pro tip - bring close-toed shoes for the games.) Our next unexpected surprise was that the cruise was cancelled for the night because during the storm the night before, the dam had been released, and the water levels were too high to operate safely. Again, Ron rolled with it. I had told him about my time in Seoul in my 20s and the peace I had found by the Han River, and so Ron really went above and beyond and took me to a cafe with a gorgeous view of the river where we could enjoy the breeze and maybe sort of almost pretend we were on the water. And again, we were able to enjoy a really nice chat and a genuine moment to connect. This was not the tour that I expected to have, but it was something really special and unique instead.

Must-do tour!
Very interesting tour, well worth the time! Our pleasant and cheerful guide Hazel kept everything running efficiently and kept us informed of the schedule, timings and especially the change of itinerary when a traffic accident blocked the road to the observatory. I booked the option with the defector Q&A which was touching. Please note that the visit to the 3rd tunnel is more arduous than it sounds, and you should be in good shape to go down and back. The tour gives a lot of background info and history of the Korean conflict, but doesn’t overdo it. The highlight for me was peering into the binoculars and actually seeing village people inside the DPRK.
