Celestun is a fishing village located west of Merida, about an hour away. It is located within the natural reserve catalogued as the Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve, feeding ground of the pink flamingo that is found in abundance in some months of the year within the estuary that runs parallel to the sea of the Gulf of Mexico.
