Not to be missed

Getano our guide was absolutely wonderful, so full of interesting facts and descriptions and really brought the origins of Matera to life. You get to learn the history of its beginning right up to current day, utterly fascinating and not to be missed if you are visiting Matera. If we hadn’t joined Getano’s tour we would not have gained a full appreciation of just how amazing Materamis. Getano has a fabulous personality, is fun and great at imparting information and his English is perfect. We explored at a very relaxing pace and the use of a very comfortable ear piece which just rests softly on the outside of your ear means you don’t miss out on any of the commentary. Cannot recommend highly enough, such an enjoyable experience which took just over 2 hours.

BEST way to see Matera

This is by far the best way to see Matera. Our guide, even with limited English, was incredibly helpful and friendly and showed us everything we wanted to see and more. Plenty of time for photographs and getting out and seeing incredible views. This is a great thing for somebody with a mobility issues, and the central Meetup location was easily accessible by taxi.

Great Intro to Matera!

Excellent tour! The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and easy to understand. The 2 hours were actively paced but not rushed. She did an excellent job of presenting the history of the sassi in the context of the overall history of Matera, including many small and interesting tidbits of information. I learned a huge amount! Touring Outlying Areas Around Matera.

The tour to Murgia Park was beautiful, allowing us to see some of the areas surrounding the Sassi portion of Matera. We were able to tour a cave church, learn about the refrigeration system of past centuries, and learn about some of the native plants of the area. The weather was quite nice. However, the low cloud cover on the evening of our tour did not allow for a magnificent sunset as we had hoped. To compensate for this disappointment was the ability to see the night lights of Matera’s Sassi area across the deep canyon between us. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful with answering our questions. This was a very pleasant and enjoyable tour!

Fun way to see the city!

Super fun way to see Matera and get some history. We had done a walking tour earlier in day and I was afraid it was going to be same thing. It was not. It built on the other tour. This tour stopped at a recreated cave house and the miniature museum as well as great viewpoints and church of St. Peter. It rained on our evening tour but it was still fun.

Magnificence in Matera

Had an amazing birdseye view of Sassi and also a cave house, plus a few other notable sights along the way. Loved being able to be in the historic spaces without having to walk to them, opportunities to step out and take pictures, and a hospitable driver/guide to “escort” us from place to place.

We have enjoyed the comfortable ride in the bus and memorable stories from past and present about Matera presented by a very dedicated, cheerful and eloquent guide Anita (Matera City Tour). She also gave us the tips about local foods and drinks which all enriched our impression that she is someone that cares and loves the city and warmly welcomes Matera visitors. Tour is mixed Italian/English and Anita was kind and made time for our questions. Very good and affordable closed parking place is just opposite to the tourist office. Panoramic views from Piazza San Pietro Caveoso and visit to House-Cave were exceptional.

Incredible!
