We are truly blessed with a natural wonder sculpted over millions of years: the mesmerizing Gaitanes Gorge. The inception of this "trail" dates back to the 20th century What they ingeniously crafted is a pathway that's a mere 1 meter wide and extends for 3 kilometers, soaring an incredible 100 meters above the ground! A few years later, during the inauguration of the Dam by the esteemed King Alfonso XIII, he traversed this extraordinary route and bestowed upon it the name it carries proudly to this day: "El Caminito del Rey." Only 1 hour separate Malaga from El Chorro, the town where our adventure begins. The route itself is short and free of difficulties, spanning 3 kilometers of entirely flat terrain. However, the true allure lies in its extraordinary location, with sections suspended more than 100 meters above the river. Prepare to meander along dizzying walkways, traverse the reservoir on towering bridges, and savor breathtaking views from precipitous lookout points.

This walk takes us from the small white village of Montejaque, nestled into a niche amongst rocky mountain peaks at the edge of the Sierra de Grazalema, to Ronda. We follow the original pathways that took villagers, drovers and their wares from the mountain village into the town in the days before cars, roads and railways. After a short tour of the village we exit via a stone “zigzag path”. This is a short, steep climb that takes us up into the mountains, past a small chapel and a hidden plateau. We continue through the hills, past huge agave cactus plants, olive groves and farms, with stunning views across the countryside. We climb to a viewpoint where Ronda’s position on top of a sheer rock wall lays before us, then drop down into the fertile valley below the town. We walk directly below the walls of the gorge and enjoy iconic views of the Puente Nuevo bridge, before climbing to our finish point in one of Ronda’s oldest districts, the Barrio San Francisco.

Escaleretas is the name given to the steps on which the limestone slabs of this area are arranged. This path will take us to botanical jewels such as Spanish firs or mountain gall oaks

The Cerro Gordo Tower was built in the 16th century on top of an old watchtower from the times of the Kingdom of Granada to protect the workers and fishermen in the area. It visually connects to the west with the Caleta or Cantarriján tower, and to the east with the Torre de la Herradura. Formerly it was a favorable place for pirates, who took control of this area to enter the territory and cause terror in the native population, a fact that had a decisive influence on the low number of residents who lived in the towns nearby.
