Tips for Tourists
This tour was fantastic and I highly recommend doing the nature sights with a guide because you’ll see animals you’d otherwise miss. We traveled with 2 children (9, 12). Things I think would be helpful for future travelers — find a Arenal hike + Hanging bridges tour and do the waterfall by yourself. Due to time, we felt rushed at the waterfall and would have just loved more time to sit and relax. You don’t need a tour for the waterfall. Know that it is 500+ stairs down and then back up. The rocks are slippery. You can do this in flip flops, crocs, sneakers, water shoes, barefoot … there are clean bathrooms, a bar, souvenir shop, and light food at the top. The volcano tour — I highly recommend going with a guide. Otherwise it’s just a hike. Also, if you’re a hiker, this is a nature walk with some rocky inclines. If you don’t hike, this is a hike. My husband did it in crocs. My kids and I did it in water shoes with tread. You don’t need hiking shoes unless you’re unsteady on your feet. The bridges was a cool experience if you’ve never done something like it before. If you don’t go with a guide, it’s just a nature walk (with paved inclines) and you’ll miss lots of animals. Despite the recommendations, my husband did this in crocs, but had to sign a waiver. You can pack backpacks and bags and leave things in the air-conditioned tour van throughout the day. This made outfit changes easier and was nice to not have to carry everything all the time. For lunch- I highly recommend the traditional casada (with chicken, pork, or fish) or they also offered quesadillas and chicken fingers with fries. We truly enjoyed our full-day experience and this particular group was great to be with all day. 10/10, highly recommend.

Thrilling adventure!
Our guide, Carlos was amazing. Informative, funny, nice, and high energy. Transportation to inform was seamless, with all important information discussed during the transit. The rafting itself was incredibly thrilling. We were not expecting that intensity, but it was a blast. The Shoreline stop with fresh fruit was great. Scenery was amazing and they pointed out several sloths and monkeys along the way. The ending lunch was actually delicious and a big surprise. Highly recommend these people. If you end up with Carlos, consider yourself lucky!

So fun we did it twice!
We loved our whitewater rafting trip with Costa Rica Descents. They really go above and beyond to show you a good time including unscheduled stops by the road to see sloths, and free coffee tasting and farm tour after lunch! We were really lucky to have Warner as our bus a river guide as he was very experienced and wanted to make sure we had fun and stayed safe. We requested him for our second trip as well! Our driver, Giohanni, was also great and very safe:

Amazing rafting experience
We had the most amazing experience white water rafting today! We were picked up promptly at our hotel at 9 am. Axel was such a fun bus guide. Once we got to the river, we met our guide, Carlos Gonsales, who was so experienced and so fun! The trip was extremely well organized, very safe. There were photographers along the way to capture the trip. It was so fun, very safe and so well organized. It ended a delicious lunch and slide show of all of the pictures. I highly recommend using Arenal Rafting for your best white water rafting experience in Arenal/La Fortuna!
