An absolutely fabulous experience with Aik our guide. He made Istanbul come alive. He was so knowledgeable on the history of Turkey and personable. We highly recommend the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market tour. You won’t be disappointed.
Our guide, Huseyin Bagir, facilitated one spectacular tour of Istanbul's Old City and sites, which included the Basilica Cistern and Blue Mosque. Mr. Bagir exceeded all expectations with regard to his knowledge of local (& world) history; knowledge/experience with local religions, norms, & practices; and mastery of multiple languages (Kurdish, Turkish, English, & Russian). He was not only patient with regard to our group's different interests and questions, but he made sure that we spent sufficient time at each of the various sites...the Bazaar, included, that came towards the end of our tour, which Mr. Bagir kindly & generously extended since we all had asked to stop for a late lunch & visit a local music instruments store.
These stops were above and beyond the formal tour sites so we appreciate greatly the degree to which Mr. Bagir went out of his way to tailor this tour according to everyone's interests. And, we felt fortunate to also learn about our guide's musical interests and talents. (Mr. Bagir is a professional musician; a very talented and quite humble one.)
Mr. Bagir was the quintessential host and guide in Istanbul. We feel so grateful for all of the time he spent with us; his warm style & ability to connect with everyone in our group; and for the many ways he made this tour a momentous one for all! If we had more days to spend on this trip, we would have enjoyed seeing the other places & nearby sites that our guide recommended. In fact, our group agreed that we would have booked any other tours that our guide, Mr. Huseyin Bagir, was leading for the week. We highly recommend any of the tours that Mr. Bagir leads in and around Istanbul & Turkey. He went above and beyond with regard to the time and knowledge he shared...and he also helped us take some incredible photos along the way!
We highly recommend Viator since their guides are not only exceptionally knowledgable and professional, but this company ensures a most remarkable experience in each city and country our group has been fortunate to explore and visit.
Thank you, Huseyin Bagir, for a most spectacular tour & day in Istanbul! :)
Kim was the best guide we have had during our European travels over the last 2 and a half months
Really worth doing during our time in Istanbul, Kim is such a knowledgeable and well informed guide, she was caring and flexible, showed us places we wouldn't have found on our own
Jon was the best guide I ever had. Very knowledgeable, fluent, kind, and thoughtful. Gave us an excellent tour. Took very good care of us. Very willing to give us extra info and adapt tour to our interests.
Our guide Kim was friendly and informative. We enjoyed the overview of Istanbul. Unfortunately the line to get into the Blue
Mosque was so long that we opted out….next time. I highly recommend this highlights tour.
A fantastic experience one we will never forget. Our Guide was fantastic and very informative. It was a little challenging with all the walking would not suggest this for someone with any soreness that managed to make it through the day.
No specific instructions as to where to meet. Only “Galataport” which is huge.
They didn’t tell us where at the part we should meet. It ’s a huge port. We waited where the busses pick up but finally we got instructions to meet outside the port.
The guide however was excellent.

The Grand Bazaar is a must-visit for history buffs, carpet enthusiasts, and shopaholics.
Don’t be afraid to haggle; it’s expected.
Wear comfortable shoes—you will be on your feet as you explore the vast market.
Be prepared to take your time. The Grand Bazaar is large and it’s easy to get lost.
The bazaar is accessible to wheelchair users, though there is a 4-inch (10-centimeter) drop at most entrances and some lanes are quite narrow.
People Also Ask
What can I buy at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul?
You can buy just about anything at Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s oldest and largest covered markets. But many tourists come excited for the Iznik bowls and other Turkish ceramics, gold jewelry, Turkish rugs (Kilim rugs), traditional crafts and teas, Hammam soaps, and uber-fresh spices by the pound.
Are guided tours available for the Grand Bazaar?
Yes, guided tours are available for the Grand Bazaar, and they can be a great way to demystify—and break into doable parts—this massive, ancient market with more than 4,000 shops. Your guide will know the vendors to patronize (or not) and where to find the best souvenirs and deals.
What are the best bargaining tips for shopping at the Grand Bazaar?
Saying “hello” and “thank you” in Turkish goes a long way. You can start your bargaining and ask, “What if I pay in cash?” which may lower the price. Do comparison shopping and note lower prices at other stalls and, as always, stay good-natured and willing to walk away.
Can I use credit cards for shopping at the Grand Bazaar, or is it cash-only?
While you can use credit cards at many shops inside Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, many vendors prefer cash. They may charge you a higher price if you’re paying with plastic. If you can, pay with cash—and let them know it, for a lower price—especially for smaller purchases.
Are there specific areas within the Grand Bazaar for certain types of goods?
Yes, the Grand Bazaar is organized by sections, thankfully—otherwise you’d never make it around the market’s 4,000-plus shops without getting lost. You’ll find sections dedicated to what the bazaar is known for, like gold and silver jewelry, Turkish ceramics and textiles, antiques, as well as spices and soaps.
Do I need to be cautious about scams or counterfeit goods at the Grand Bazaar?
While the Grand Bazaar is a marketplace with a reputable, 500-year history, always be cautious. Certain goods—especially those geared toward tourists—may seem authentic and precious, when they’re mass-produced. Know that bargaining is an option, as is comparison shopping, and you should never pay more than you’re comfortable with.
