A truly marvellous experience. The 1st part was both educational and fun learning from a long standing artisanal noodle maker about the various noodles types, the differences, how they are made (you even make your own noodles for the subsequent meal 👍). This was then followed by wonderful evening with Akiko and her family at home making Gyoza, ramen etc and enjoying a meal together. A truly magical experience I would recommend to everyone

Dear Raechel-san, Arigato gozaimasu for your beautiful review. Reading your kind words truly made my heart happy. I’m so honoured that our ramen adventure became one of your favourite experiences in Japan. The laughter and stories we shared are very special to me as well. I hope the BABYMETAL concert was amazing! Maybe our ramen helped you recover after all that excitement and headbanging? 🤘🍜 You are always welcome back anytime. I would love to cook together again. Warmest wishes, Akiko

The host was very kind and welcomed us like family. The factory tour was amazing and her brother explained everything in detail and with a lot of passion. After that we made ramen at the hosts place and it was delicious. I can recommend it to everyone!

One of the best experiences in Japan!

    Jonathan_B, Jul 2025
Without a doubt the best experience my friends and I had in Japan. Akiko-san, her brother and the rest of her family are the sweetest, kindest people ever. The experience itself was wonderful! We got to learn about the history and kinds of ramen, make our own and ask as many questions as we wanted. While the ramen making part was amazing, the true magic began in Akiko-sans home. We got to make gyoza and the ramen with the noodles which we just made ourselves! Other than my friends and I (3 people in total), there was also 2 more lovely people in our group with whom we got to talk a lot and engage during the whole experience. Those 2 really made our enjoyment even better. While preparing and cooking, everybody was talking and having fun. Right after, we had some of the best food all of us had after almost a month in Japan. While eating and after eating we all talked even more, exchanging in cultural and personal exchange, talking about all kinds of topics! Everybody but especially Akiko-san either her kind art was engaged and having fun! We stayed long enough to where we had to take the last bus home. It truly was one of if not the best experience all of us had in Japan! Thank you so so much, Akiko-san! Very strong recommendation to do this experience from me!

Dear Jonathan-san, Thank you so much for your heartwarming and detailed review! It truly touched me to hear that you and your friends enjoyed the Yokohama Ramen Adventure so much. I was deeply impressed by your action and determination—you are only one year older than my own daughter, yet you travelled to Japan and created such wonderful memories with your friends. You inspired me, as a mother, to encourage my daughter and son to go out into the world and experience it for themselves too. While making ramen and gyoza together was a lot of fun, the real magic was in the conversations we shared around the table—laughing, exchanging stories about our lives, cultures, and dreams. I’m so happy to hear that you felt the same way. I hope you’ll visit again someday—my door is always open to you! Thank you again for joining our adventure and for your kind recommendation. It truly means the world to me. Wishing you all the best in your future adventures! Akiko

My wife and I have done a few cooking events over the course of our travels, but none with our kids in tow. At ages 7 and 5 we were a little concerned that five hours would be tough for them, but Akiko was a great host and made sure the kids stayed engaged or occupied in some way all along. We started in her brother's third-generation noodle shop, learning about what sets ramen noodles apart from other noodles and then what variances there are within the ramen set. While you don't make the dough yourself you do get to choose from several pre-made types and you pick the thickness and shape (wavey or straight) and watch them get made in a pretty cool pressing and cutting machine. We chose 4 different types (there are no bad choices btw). After the factory you stroll about 5-7 minutes to Akiko's home; walking along a stream-lined path and feeding Koi fish if you choose (so our stroll took 20 minutes as the kids really enjoyed the fish feeding). At Akiko's home the kids played with leggos and matchbox cars while we made homemade gyoza (chopping, mixing, stuffing, folding and frying) - getting the kids involved at opportune moments. Akiko provides great instructions, including printed copies to take home - these are recipes handed down from her grandmother who lived above their noodle factory. Following the gyoza we were on to the ramen broth, searing the pork with a blow torch (always fun!), soft boiling the eggs, mixing her premade stock together with some new ingredients...and then it was a quick boil of the noodles, adorn your bowl with your chosen toppings and then slurp away! The gyoza and ramen were top notch, as good as you'd find in any restaurant. Eating in Akiko's livingroom, meeting her family and cute little dog, really made it feel more like a dinner gathering of friends versus a cooking lesson. All in all it was a really cool experience if you like ramen and want to delve a bit deeper into how it's made and what an authentic Japanese dinner experience is like.

Dear Jordan-san, Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review! It truly made me happy to read how much you and your lovely family enjoyed the experience, especially during the very beginning of your new life in Japan. I will always remember how your children, with their small hands, carefully rolled the noodles coming out of the machine, and how they counted in Japanese, having just learned the numbers! Their energy and enthusiasm were absolutely adorable, and it was such a joy to see them so engaged throughout the day. Also, I was deeply touched by the loving and gentle gaze you and your wife had toward your children. It really showed the warmth and love within your family. I learned so much from the way you encouraged your children to try new things. It was inspiring to see how you supported them in embracing new experiences with curiosity and excitement. I’m honored that you felt at home and that the experience felt more like a gathering with friends rather than just a cooking lesson. Your warm words mean so much to me and encourage me to continue sharing these special moments. I hope you and your beautiful family create many wonderful memories here in Yokohama! Wishing you all the very best, Akiko

    Exceeded All Expectations

If you’re a ramen foodie or just curious about ramen, this tour takes you from flour to flavor! You start in a third generation ramen factory learning from the guide’s brother, Taka, the basic factory steps of making ramen noodles. But then he takes it further. You learn how different levels of hydration and how different types of flour can be combined to customize a noodle to a shop owner’s preference. That would normally be enough but then Akiko takes it further. You take the noodle texture and thickness of your choice to her house and make an amazing bowl of ramen using traditional family techniques. The hospitality is incredible. The cooking,, learning, sharing, and new friends makes for an incredible experience. Highly recommended!

Dear Scott-san, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and detailed review! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed both the noodle-making process at the factory and the ramen cooking at home. It was a pleasure sharing our family’s traditions with you, and seeing your curiosity and passion made the experience even more special for us. We hope you’ll try hosting your own ramen and gyoza party using the recipes — and we’d love to hear how it goes! Arigato gozaimashita! Sincerely, Akiko

The highlight of our trip to Japan: the ramen tour with Akiko

    Tilman_H, Dec 2025
The ramen tour with Akiko was one of our highlights on our trip to Japan. We learned a lot about ramen. The tour started with her brother Taka in his ramen factory. It was a lot of fun to produce ramen with him according to our own wishes and to get insights into his family-run business. Afterwards we went to Akiko's home where we cooked gyzo and ramen. It was a lot of fun and it was incredibly delicious to eat the delicious food with her husband. Akiko and her family were super hospitable to us and we enjoyed spending such a great personal evening with them. The great experience was rounded off by her cute dogs. Just playing with Teddy would be worth the price. I can only recommend this tour to anyone! Many thanks to Akiko, Taka and their family for this wonderful evening!
