Went at 8am and had to wait at the door for them to open. A tour guide would’ve been beneficial. There’s a lot of info and can be overwhelming to read over.

Dear Satis
We Truly appreciate your visit to the Museum which means a lot for us.
I will speak to the team about this as we are opened from Monday to Saturday from 8:00am, except for Sundays and public holidays, on which we are opened at 9:00am. May you confirm what day you visited with us?
Note also that the guided tours are optional but highly recommended for an additional cost of 5USD for the tour.
Again thank you for your visit and we will continue to work on improving our guests' experience at the Museum.

The artifacts were representative of our history and showed what slaves had to endure during that time .

Thank you for your visit.

Paid $6 for a guide. The stories told were heart breaking and I cried! All the items come from a single, Jewish, Dutch man. Some items were donated. The museum was built on land where there was no history of slavery. Some of the art pieces are thought provoking. A must see!

There is a lot of walking. For those of us with mobility issues, it can become too much. I was able to complete most of the tour but there was a point when I knew it had been enough for me. I appreciate the patience of my tour guide and others in the group! The experience was informative and interesting. Once I'm better, I may return to complete the exhibits.

Plan for at least 3 hours to truly experience this museum. We were rushed (our own fault) and still felt how powerful the message is: we must learn from history so we do not repeat it.
Check the opening hours/days and plan accordingly.

This was an amazing experience delivered by a knowledgeable guide. I would certainly do it over again, so that I am sure to soak in this pivotal moment in time, internalizing its significance on today’s people.

This museum lays out an important part of history. I wish it was a bit better maintained and was consistent in the language/translations throughout the museum. There is a lot of reading involved in trying to get a proper understanding. I would suggest making it more interactive.

Please do invest $3 for a tour guide. The tour guide was SO knowledgeable and took time to answer our questions as she guided us through the different sections of the museum. The quality and selection of the artifacts rival any top museum in a metropolitan area.

Thank you very much for your visit.

For anyone wanting to learn about this part of the history of the island, I would recommend this tour. Doing the tour with a guide added immensely to the experience. We are glad we took the time to visit this museum.

Take advantage of the guided tour. We used the tour guide for $3 pp and it was worth it. We had the chance to ask questions for clarity and hear the story behind most exhibits.

We had a private tour. Our guide was super knowledgeable. The artifacts and stories were hard to believe. It was very unsettling to understand all the atrocities that took place.

This is a great museum. It provides a very informative lesson on the history of slavery in Curacao. Get the guided tour, for a more thorough perspective.

This was one of the more in-depth museum/historical tours I've taken. Evonne was so knowledgeable about the evolution of the slave trade in Curacao. The artifacts were awesome!

This is a very educational but at the same time sensitive experience. Lots of informative information. There are also many artifacts used during this period. The Africa room is soo full of culture with many cool pieces! Very nice museum.

We had a wonderful time at the museum. This was my second time and it was just as good as the first. I would highly recommend it. The staff are so thoughtful and knowledgeable. Love this museum and the ability to learn so much important history.
marionmadsen, Aug 2023
The artifacts collected and the thorough explanation of each item and its origin. The best African Museum and materials I have ever seen. A great learning experience. MM from USA

I had read previous reviews and knew I needed to see it. The staff was welcoming. We toured without a guide though if you are in a large group (over 6) it may be reasonable to have one. The displays and artifacts were presented well. Don't miss the opportunity to stroll though the Hulanda Village as well! Would have loved the tour experience to include transportation from our resort.
Kasandra_V, Apr 2023
Paid to have the tour guide. She did her best, unfortunately she was not fully knowledgeable to answer many of the questions we asked. It was a superficial explanation of the artifacts and history. It’s a good museum to check out, but recommend skipping the guided tour.

Thank you for your visit

Very sobering, but fascinating. Museum is devoted to the slave trade from ancient Egypt to the 1800's, including West Africa, Surinam, Holland and just slightly the US. Don't go without hiring a guide/docent ($3.00). You loose too much history going through it alone.

This is an absolutely amazing hidden gem …
Museum houses Heritage quality artifacts … from 4000 y ago …
My sister and I paid a guide to walk us through the collection … very knowledgeable … very patient … certainly didn’t rush his talk. We were there for a good 1 1/2 h.
Entry was made all the more convent by having precooked tour with Viator.

I’m very appreciative of Ms. Milva she was the absolute Best tour guide. I personally felt like information on the booking site don’t give enough details about what to expect cause this has to be my favorite tour overall. Ms. Milva is a genius; she’s well spoken and very knowledgeable. This is a tour I’ll recommend anyone traveling to Curaçao take cause it tells you how curaçao played in slavery and how everything connected. Ms. Milva deserves 10/10.
