Varanasi in one day lives up to its name!

Our guide, Bharat, was exceptional! Not only friendly and good humoured on what was a long day, but efficient and oh so knowledgeable. It would have been a very long day, so to build breakfast and lunch breaks into this trip is a great idea. Sadly the sun was hiding, but nonetheless our Sunrise Cruise was wonderful, seeing Varanasi come to life in the morning. Sarnath was not just a green and welcome respite from the city, it was also a most wonderful tour of the Stoupa and archeological Buddhist artefacts, temples and statues all set within the most beautiful gardens. Bharat’s encyclopaedic knowledge of the religious history of India was astonishing, and he delivered it in a gentle and easy to understand way. SO pleased we did this trip - it really is Varanasi in one day!!

It was an enjoyable morning on The Ganges. An early start but very atmospheric and interesting to learn about the history and traditions. We got back to our hotel after 3hrs and as the traffic was heavy we stayed there until 1pm. The afternoon consisted of a trip to Sarnath and then back to the Ganges for the Aarti ceremony. That was incredible and we had a front row seat on a balcony overlooking the activities. The crowds must have been in the tens of thousands so getting back to our car with traffic coming at us from all angles was a little daunting. It was a full moon so that may have contributed to the large crowds. It was great to experience something which is authentic and not just laid on for tourists. Our guide Bharat was very knowledgeable

A grand day out in Varanasi

Our guide Bharat picked us up at the hotel at 0600 along with a car and diver. The traffic was heavy even at that hour but our driver was good and we felt safe. We walked the final 400 yards to the Ganges and strolled along the chats witnessing all aspects of life. Bharat arranged a boat for just the two of us along with himself and the boatman. It was an incredible trip as we witnessed the cremations as the sun rose. We returned to our hotel for breakfast at 0830. Bharat collected us again at 1030 to drive 10 miles to the Buddhist holy site at Sarnath. We also saw the deer park, a Jain temple, a museum,the statue of a 80 foot Buddah and a Thai temple. We were offered the opportunity to go shopping but declined. We returned for the hotel at 1315.. Bharat collected us at 1630 for the Ganga Aarti ceremony. The crowds were very heavy near the river so we travelled the final part by trishaw. We had the best seats on a balcony directly above the ceremony. We were safely back in the hotel by 1930. Bharat is a very professional and experienced guide who gave us a wealth of knowledge. It was a truly memorable day. Thank you Bharat. I would highly recommend this tour.

All of the tour was amazing from the sunrise on the Ganges, the traditional cremation, the Sanarth and Buddha temple to the Atari in the evening. Our guide BHARAT and driver KAMAL did a fantastic job of describing all the traditions. Made it all come alive. Spoke really good English and went out of his way to give us a wonderful experience. Best tour guide ever!

Bharat is the perfect tour guide for Varanasi. He is very knowledgeable with India religion and history. We learned so much from him and his stories made the whole trip super interesting. He is very friendly, punctuated, and familiar with local street. He even helped us negotiate with locals. I would highly recommend him and recommend my friends take his tour.

Amazing spiritual and historical experience

Varanasi, or Banares as called by locals, is an amazing city with so much spiritual and cultural influence. The sights and sounds of the bustling city, coupled with the calm early morning and joyous late evening rituals are something that can only be experienced in this Holy City. Our tour guide, Bharat, was so informative, welcoming and patient, definitely a world class guide who allowed us to get an authentic view into the lives of the devoted people of Banares, as well as gave us an immersive experience that we will never forget. A truly life-changing excursion and Bharat will always be connected to us through his genuine energy and hospitality. The sights, sounds, and emotions of the this tour are something that should be part of every tourists' trip to India, young and old!

Our tour guide, “Manny” was excellent. We started our tour before sunrise and went on the boat ride while the sun came up. We saw the morning rituals on the Gange and then walked thru town back to the driver. We went back to our hotel for breakfast and then started the city town around BHU. Manny had many interesting stories to share about the culture and history. We then headed to Sarnath and toured many locations there before enjoying a meal and heading back to the city. We got back in time to get a front row seat high above the Arti ceremony and away from the crowd. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it. Our driver and our guide were both excellent. Thank you for a great day!

Do not waste your time or money. It is NOT a full day tour

I booked this tour because I wanted a full day of sight seeing in Varanasi. I only had one day there, and I thought this tour would be the answer. I was so wrong. I do not even know the guide's name because he never even told me his name. The guide arrived at 5:30am for our sunrise boat ride. I was staying right on the Ganges, so it did not take long to arrive at the water. We walked for about 20 minutes while he tried to find a boat for us, along the way we kept stopping, and I am assuming he was asking for availability. Shouldn't this have been decided before I arrived? The guide provided little to no explanation during the boat ride, if I did not ask a question, it was silence. Then, after the boat ride, I was told that I have 2 hours for a breakfast break. I said that we were supposed to go for a walk through the city, and I had to argue for it. The guide had no interest in going. Did I really need 2 hours for breakfast? It did not say anywhere in the itinerary that I would have so much down time, but I agreed to it. After breakfast, we went to Sarnath. Again, there was little to no explanation. After a short exploration, it was 11:30. I was then told that the guide would meet me again at 3:00pm to finish the tour. I had just had a 2 hour break, and now I was going to have a 3 1/2 hour break?! Why would I book a full day tour if I was now going to have FIVE hours on my own before 3:00? Yes, it was hot, but I kept telling my guide that I was ok with the heat. He did not care, and kept telling me he would return at 3:00pm. After the guide dropped me off at my hotel, I told him not to come back. I did not even finish the remainder of the tour with him. I was so disappointed, I did not want to waste any more of the little time I had there with his nonsense. When I asked for his name and tour company information, he would not give it to me. This tour was advertised as if it would be a full day, comprehensive tour of Varanasi. Instead, it was a terrible guide with more down time than actual touring. Please do not make the same mistake that I did, and do not book this tour.

Cogimos la excursión de todo el día por Varanasi por los buenos comentarios que tenía y menudo chasco nos llevamos . La ciudad en la que más cosas había para explicar fue en la que menos nos enteramos . Dimos mil vueltas por las calles y no por que nos enseñaría algo si no por que se perdía ,cosa que siéndo de allí no entendíamos mucho A la mañana nos montamos en la barca y quitando que no nos explicó nada lo demás todo bien . La sorpresa llegó cuando fuimos a la ceremonia del arrti en el cual cuando contratamos la excursión ponía que teníamos reservada silla en un balcón privilegiado con las mejores vistas y resulta que no teníamos nada … no veíamos ,nos hizo subir y movernos por todos lados hasta que consiguió tres sillas en las cuales no se veía absolutamente nada . Una pena que nos hayamos perdido la historia de esta ciudad con tanto encanto por tener un guía sin saber que explicarnos . Su nombre era chanchan ,no era desagradable ,al contrario como persona era majo,pero como turistas españolas consideramos que no hizo bien su trabajo y la verdad que una pena .
