I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Our guide, Avinash, our driver and guide at Sarneth museum were excellent at their jobs. The experience included everything as described and I believe it to be very good value for money. Avinash was very knowledgeable and friendly, and I learnt a lot about Varanasi during the day. I would recommend anybody to book this experience if going to Varanasi!

1. One of the worst guide that we have encountered in India. He wasted lot of time, he was very frustrated that we decided to visit the temple. He was not prepared for our visit as we wasted time in buying the tickets - the tickets should have been purchased before. I can go on about his bad attitutde. Most of the time on the phone dealing with his issues instead of providing the services for which he was hired.
2. No water was provided - first time on a Viator tour where no bottled water was available specially when the temperature is over 30 degrees
3. Very uncomfortable car although the driver was good and friendly.
4. It is advertised as a flexible personal tour but the Guide is not that flexible - he was not interested in showing the temples he was more interested in a pass by concept. He wasted so much time in talking about his career in the morning as we were late in reaching the temples and encountered huge line up.
5. In Viator you always pay first but you this sort of services I am now rethinking whether to use Viator at all unless I am compensated for this very poor service.
6. I reated them poor instead of very poor just because of the driver and some flexibility shown by the tour office (NOT THE GUIDE)

Himanshu was an outstanding guide and made my tour of Varanasi, the Ganges River, and Sarnath one of the most memorable tours I have taken anywhere in the world. I have traveled to 52 countries and taken hundreds of tours, and this experience truly exceeded my expectations.
Himanshu was incredibly knowledgeable — honestly, his understanding of the history, culture, and significance of the places we visited was so impressive that he could easily teach a university history course. He answered every question thoughtfully, never rushed me, and struck the perfect balance between explaining the major sights and helping me experience Varanasi in a more local, authentic way.
What stood out most was how patient, professional, and genuinely passionate he was throughout the day. He made the tour feel personal rather than scripted. I would highly recommend Himanshu to anyone visiting Varanasi, and I would absolutely recommend booking with his company.

I had only three days to visit in Varanasi; I could have used more. As a consequence, I booked the full day city tour so that I could see major sights and make the most of my time. I also booked other tours of interest on photography and morning boating on the Ganges River. My main guide, Himanshu, lived nearby and greeted me at my hostel, which was located in an alleyway maze only accessible through narrow footpaths. Otherwise, a pickup location father away would have been required, so the local meeting at the hostel was appreciated.
For the city tour, we walked to the ghat and boarded a small boat, navigating the Ganges, lingering at important ghats and a ceremonial site. After the early morning on the river, we strolled on the ghats and then traversed city alleys and market areas with shopping streets. A driver took us through Banaras Hindu University campus, and then on to Sarnath Temple. We ended the day at an Aarti celebration.
Himanshu was very knowledgeable and answered all questions, while providing a running narrative. The guide at Sarnath Temple/museum was superb and added expert detail and knowledge. Both guides were enthused and listened carefully and provided full answers to my questions.
The pace was good, with guides accommodating any needs, enabling me time to freely ask questions and for them to respond. Additionally, there was time for me to just fully take in a scene as I pleased. Admission fees were included and arranged in advance, so access went smoothly. Time was allocated for meals, which were paid separately.
I ate a late lunch, before heading to the Aarti ritual. Preferred seating was provided for the Aarti ritual, which made observing the ritual more enjoyable.
The only drawback was the guide was unable to escort me back to the hostel at the end, but I felt I could get from the ghat back to the hostel as it was a short distance. After a nighttime Ganges River boat ride back to a ghat near my hostel, I disembarked and set off. It took a little effort but with the guide following up with me by cell, and a helpful Varnasian, I was back to my lodging after a full day.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting an overview of main sights at Varanasi, but who has limited time.
If you’re staying outside of a hotel on where taxis/tuk-tuks/ or rickshaw’s cannot travel, or not on the river near a ghat, you might need to be a bit more intrepid or flexible for meeting with the guide.

Title of the package and duration can be misleading. Spent some time with the patient and helpful guide who explained the differences. Unfortunately it is due with the tour operator to make it more clear upfront and not waste time arguing/figuring out what you ate about to start with. Guide Himanshu Singh was amazing explaining all details and suggesting upgrade for a more wholesome experience.
Even though had to turn down upgrade owing to elderly people in the group, the coordination with operator and guide was smooth.
Would recommend the Operator and Guide for other travellers but recommend reading fine print well

Here’s my honest feedback about the tour.
Good:
- communication with the tour company was great. They responded to all my questions promptly
- all the itinerary items were covered in good time
- guides and driver were nice, friendly people. Zain, our morning guide, gave us a great tour, describing the ghats and accompanying us on the sunrise boat ride. He even took us to tea at Dada Ki Chai, kachori at Chachi’s and, lassi at Pehlvan. Riyaz, our driver, stayed with us throughout the tour and that was very helpful
- We saw the aarti at Assi Ghat and it was wonderful, especially since we had front row seats.
Bad:
- lack of coordination
- We thought we were getting one guide who would stay with us throughout, but that wasn’t the case. The morning guide didn’t even know we had a whole day tour. He was going to drop us off at the hotel, but we had to tell him we had the whole day, and then he called the office and verified. This should not have happened.
- In the evening, the guide showed up late and the driver had to take us to the designated spot. It was a little stressful
- We did not like that we were taken to a saree shop. That was not part of the itinerary and, in fact, we were cheated in the saree that we bought. So you should not use that shop.
Overall, this has the makings of a great tour, but it needs some changes as described above.

The tour itself included everything that we wanted during our stay in Varanasi. It started with the sunrise boat ride. Our guide/driver was a little late in picking us up and didn't pick us up at our lodging but we were able to find a meeting spot outside of the alleyways. The boat ride was allowed us to see so many rituals along the Ganges including the cremation sites. We then proceeded to follow the itinerary with only one unplanned stop at a silk shop where you are shown the process and then escorted to a show room even after repeatedly telling the guide that we did not want to do shopping like this. We were picked up later for the evening aarti ceremony which was the highlight of the trip. My only complaint was that the guide continuously asked for a good review and the day ended with me getting upset and having to tell him to stop after the 30th time of him asking. Unfortunately, he was the only sour part of the tour oh and him bragging all day that he was the best and would make sure that we had the best of everything on the tour.

Varanasi was a truly unique experience. The place is really inviting and the sights, and the food was an experience that will bring us back again.
We had Himanshu Singh and Riaz as our host and driver. Himanshu was professional, knowledgeable and someone who is keen to do a good job. He helped us navigate the crowds with ease, kept us constantly updated about the places and navigated us to some of the best food joints.
Riaz was professional, and a safe driver who never gave us occassion to get worried about the traffic, or the chaos on the road. Very courteous and helpful.

I had a wonderful experience with this Viator tour. Originally scheduled for 6 a.m., the team was extremely kind and accommodating in shifting the start time to 8 a.m. due to heavy fog, which I really appreciated. The walking tour was thoughtfully done, and the boat ride was absolutely beautiful and added so much to the experience. The evening aarti was truly special and very well organized. Our guide, Himanshu, was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful—he shared a lot of interesting information and made the tour even more enjoyable. Overall, a fantastic experience and highly recommended!

My guide was Himanshu Singh, who insisted not twice or three times, but four and five times that I write a review for him. I understand how important the reviews are. I clearly understand instructions when they are given to me once. I was already frustrated because he tried to end a 4-hour tour after 2.5 hours and I had to contact the tour company about it. Varanasi is a very old, very dirty, very busy, and very poorly maintained city. Expectations should be reserved. There is a lot of history; a lot of old buildings and temples falling to ruins. The cows leave messes all through the alleys. It's sad. I appreciate the information Himanshu gave me and I did learn from him.

Himanshu was a great guide, very knowledgeable and punctual. Spending a full day experiencing Varanassi was really special. We sailed at sunrise on the Ganges, discussed they key ghats and had some puri sabji for breakfast. We had a walking tour of the alleys and explored Sanarth. The day ended with a deeply spiritual aarti ceremony. I recommend this tour.

Had the most wonderful day spent in Varanasi. Himanshu and his team made sure I won’t miss anything that Varanasi has to offer - including its sighs and food and walks! Himanshu went a few steps ahead by accompanying me to check out temples and hidden dens which were not a part of the ‘plan’. Overall, a great team and a wonderful experience:).

The experience is flexible and covers all spots mentioned. Their guide Himanshu is great - he provided us with information about Varanasi’s history throughout the day, was extremely welcoming and a friendly lad to accompany us on our tour. The local tour company was quick to respond to WhatsApp texts and problem-solve any issues/queries. Shoutout to our driver - Manoj Ji, who was prompt, punctual and swift! 👌🏼

Booking with Viator was super easy and hassle-free . The only thing I felt bad about is the co-ordination from head office regarding my booking . My guide himanshu handled the situation really well . He is very knowledgeable-and helpful ,later everything smoothly. We covered everything in the right time .
My only advise to viator office is to double check the bookings to prevent last minute problems.

Guide very knowledgeable about Ghats and history, sadly my granddaughter was feeling sick so we was only able to do the boat ride part of the tour and had to return to our hotel, although we were picked up at 5.30 it was for sunrise and the sun had already risen so did not see this but the couple getting out the boat before us had.

We were picked up in exactly the right place as the guide knew exactly what he was doing and where he was going.
Deepak was very knowledgable and grew up in Varanasi . The early morning sunrise from the boat was magical and made all the more special with Deepak’s narration.
Deepak explained the cremation tradition in a very sympathetic and thoughtful way. We then went for a city walk … learning about temples and the Varanassi people and customs , had chai and walked around the maze of streets with a very safe and very lovely man . Thank you Deepak …

We were family of 3. We were picked up and dropped off at hotel on time. The communication over WhatsApp prior the trip was immediate. The trip is great. A guide was super friendly helpful and very passionate. If you have short time in Varanasi then this is probably the best way to experience this specific place. Highly recommend to everyone.
