Pokhara is a jumping-off point for treks in the Annapurnas, a place for recuperation (and pizza) post-trek, and a destination for both Nepalis and tourists to unwind and relax. That said, there are also adventure sports like paragliding, bungee, and ziplines to get an adrenaline fix in between spates of relaxation. There are things to do for every age and adventure level in Pokhara. In one day, you can check out the sunrise over the mountains at Sarangkot and watch the sunset (cocktail in hand) at Phewa Lake.
Spring and fall are the best seasons to visit Pokhara, when temperatures are moderate, the monsoon rains have stopped, and the white-capped Annapurnas are in full view. Trekkers flock here during these seasons when hiking conditions are at their prime. The most popular festivals, Dashain and Tijar, happen in the fall, and the city celebrates with time off work, feasting, dancing, and visiting family. Tourists are most welcome then, too.
You can get to Pokhara either by land or air, depending on how much time you have. Once here, rent a bike to cruise around Phewa Lake or ride into the countryside, or rent a boat to explore Phewa Lake. Hike up to Sarangkok for sunrise views, or if you want to conserve energy, hail one of the many inexpensive taxis and drive to the top to witness the sunrise.
If you want to hike from Pokhara but don’t have much time or experience, there are plenty of options. You could take a day hike or overnight trek to Dhampus or Australia Camp. Or try a multi-day hike like the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, which is super popular but pretty, or try a lesser-known one, like Panchase, which can take as little as 2–3 days.
