Highlight of our time in Vancouver

Gail_G, Apr 2026
Our walk with Talaysay was the best part of our stay in Vancouver. She was an incredibly effective and personable guide. I enjoyed learning about the connections between her family, the land, and the villages located in what is now called Stanley Park. She shared stories about her mother, aunt, grandmother, and community that made those connections vivid - the western hemlock's pinecones, tea, lacrosse, bathing in the Salish Sea, language, ceremony, cedar boughs, and more. I will remember a lot from this experience. Thank you for sharing the afternoon with us!

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words, it truly means a lot to us. We’re so glad to hear that your time with Talaysay was a meaningful part of your visit to Vancouver. Sharing the connections between family, land, and community is at the heart of what we do, and it’s wonderful to know that these stories and teachings resonated with you in such a lasting way. I’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to your guide, she will be deeply touched to hear how her storytelling and presence made the experience so memorable for you. Thank you again for taking the time to share this reflection, and for spending the afternoon with us. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Huy Chexw A (thank you), The Talaysay Team

I had questions of why...

Saibei_Z, Sep 2023
I had questions of why people put masks when they were doing ceremonies, and who were the people's face figures on the Totem poles. Are these faces Gods of Sun, moon, river, or faces of ancestors? We went to the tour with tour guide Patrick. He gave the explanation for these questions. The faces on the Totem Poles were the ancestors. The lowest on the pole was the eldest. Next generations were on the elder's shoulders. We are Manchu, from northern China. We had Totem poles in our culture too. The faces on the poles were ancestors' faces. If Indigenous were migrated from Easten Asia, three times large migrations around 20 thousand years ago, since we share the same culture, this might be a prove of origin of Indigenous. Nice guide, nice tour.

Great walk, great broad exposure to Stanley park

Jacob_Z, Aug 2023
Beautiful scenery! We had a walk with Patrick, he was very nice and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. He is also very knowledgeable of the various tribes of Vancouver and their history/culture. Loved the vibe and energy of the walk, would easily do it again. Also our guide Patrick was very eager to answer any questions and was just one of the nicest people I’ve met so far!

Excellent. The Guide was wonderful. A past educator. Answered all of our questions and gave us loads of information. Worthwhile tour to take. And, at the end of the tour, our guide served us a cup of hot tea.

SAKURAKO_Y, Nov 2025
It was raining like hell. We were able to learn how to utilize trees as an indigenous people, the history of the land, the image of the old scenery of the maple tree, the meaning of the totem pole, and so on. They also answered our questions attentively.
