A beautifully calming way to spend a few hours! It was so fun, and peaceful, and the staff were extremely helpful and patient. Also to be able to go home with your own creation is an awesome souvenir! Highly recommended!

Overview

Batik—hand-painted fabric—is a vital part of Indonesian culture. Discover how it works and create your very own piece of colorful fabric art, the perfect souvenir, in a charming studio outside Ubud. After sketching out your design, draw it on the fabric in hot wax, allowing you to apply dye to selected areas only: when the wax is washed off, the outline will remain in the original color.

I booked this workshop as a surprise for my mum and dad, who were visiting Bali with me. I wanted to choose something that felt traditional and creative, but also practical and immersive after having a few very busy days. This traditional batik workshop gave us the chance to learn a generations-old Indonesian art form step by step. We sketched a design, traced it in hot wax, and painted it with beautiful natural dyes. It was calm, focused and very enjoyable and was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

It was great learning about this ancient and traditional fabric printing method. I learned a lot about how to use the wax and colors in making beautiful designs and create my own piece of art. As an art lover myself, I always wanted to try and learn new ways of making art. Enjoyed the experience and the instructor was very helpful in showing the process in few hours And you create your own unique piece..

Great experience & a lot of fun! The whole team was very supportive and had a great vibe - you can bring your own ideas / motif or choose one of the many great suggestions they have. Managable even for someone who is not that talented with a pen or brush! They even brought our 'artworks' to our hotel the next day. Recommend it for anyone coming to Ubud.

I had an amazing experience at the Fine Art Studio in Bali. I arrived early and was greeted by the instructor who showed me around the studio and offered tea until the class began. He provided a bring history of the batik art form and then received one on one guidance to make one from start to finish. The instructor was always around to help but allowed me to be creative independently as well. The was a little downtime during the batik making dry phase and I continue to explore the artwork in the studio which was beautiful !!! I highly recommend this experience, especially for any lost or current artist out there!

This place is the real deal. They are knowledgeable, passionate, and fun! We had a blast making batik art here! They welcomed us with open arms. We learned the brief history to connect us to the root of it. The stencil choices were awesome varying in intensity and detail, all hand drawn by the lovely people running the magical place. They took us through step by step and also gave us room to get creative and put our touch on it, especially with the fun blendable colors. We were blessed with true teachers. Gentle ease with just enough nudge to get us out of our comfort zone. Even when we felt like we were messing it up they reassured us that it was great and helped us pivot and let me tell you....they were right. Our pieces turned out so cool and we are so grateful to have these pieces to take home and hold as memories of this magical experience. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. So much love 🫶🏼

Although I was the only student in the class that day, my instructor was helpful and knowledgeable. I got one on one instruction on how to create batik, which was fun. Probably would have been more fun with additional students, but overall a good experience. It was so much harder than I thought it would be, but I am really pleased with what I produced.

The Balinese were so helpful and tolerant. The Five Arts studio is a peaceful and dynamic working environment, with ex pats creating Batik alongside children and local artists. We were so immersed in the experience, we didn't feel like tourists at all. A real gem of a find.
