Itinerary

Discover Saint John and experience a city that has evolved with time, yet still keeps its unique character. Your tour guide will show you the many sights that Saint John has to offer while explaining the city's rich past and current challenges.

Meet your guide one hour after your ship’s arrival at 100 Water Street, a meeting point within walking distance of the cruise port.

You’ll start the exploration by following your guide to Prince William Street. This well-known strip, once considered the “Wall Street of Canada” has long been known to have one of the best collections of Victorian-era architecture in the country. Proceed down King Street to Market Slip, a site where Loyalist settlers from the United States first arrived in the late 18th century. Also along King Street are the 225th Anniversary Clock, Barbour’s General Store, and the Policeman’s Museum.

Continue past Trinity Church, a religious structure built in Gothic style, and head to King’s Square to to visit an authentic 19th-century country general store. This square is a leafy green space covered in elm trees and begonias is also home to the Imperial Theatre from 1913 and one of the world’s only two-tiered bandstands. St John’s walking tour was active and engaging

Katy_L, Oct 2024
This was a really comprehensive tour of New Brunswick and we really enjoyed our guide and his insights. Highly recommend if you are in town for the day and want to walk around instead of sitting on a bus to learn about the area.

Worst experience

JoAnne_G, Oct 2024
There never was anyone at the pier with any notification they were this tour and no time set on my ticket After walking back and forth for an hour I ended up paying the city of St. John bus service another 35$ to tour the city I’ll never use viator again

Response from Host, Oct 2024

We are sorry that you had a bad experience. Could you provide more information? Date of tour, booking number, and name it was booked under. Thank you

Average tour good for first time visitors

Keith_T, Oct 2024
Tour was a bit unorganized. I followed the instructions on where to meet but they were not there. So I tried to contact them and got no response. So we went walking and eventually found them. Seemed like they had a lot more people than they expected. They split us into two groups and we were led by Keith. We were rushed because cruise ships were not docked for long. However I wish we spent more time in City Market. We want to see Trinity Church but that never happened. Keith was nice and corny funny and he did know and explained the architecture and history.

Great walking tour!

Keith was great. Entertaining and gave us a great overview of St. John. Found out about all kinds of historic buildings, wildlife, and other important sites.

Great walking tour!

great walking tour of Saint John

Eileen_S, Sep 2024
Art was a great guide and local teacher and coach, so knew the history of the area well. It was fun to see the sights in this old, picturesque city.

Nice tour

Virginia_M, Sep 2024
Nice tour by a nice knowledgeable guide. It was difficult to hear him at times due to the size of the group and construction noise in some of the areas we visited. We did learn a lot about Saint John.

Really nice walking tour.

Dayna_S, Sep 2024
We had a great walk about. Our guide was very informative and we enjoyed the history and side story’s.

A great way to see St John

Joyce_Y, Sep 2024
Our guide. Mr. Dewar was so informative and adejusted the pace to accomodate those with walking issues. He gave us ample time to explore the market and at the end of the tour allowed us to stay in town to enjoy lunch before going back to the ship.

Mike was an excellent guide, knowledgeable and informative. The tour highlighted the history, socioeconomic facts, local architecture and culture.

Lots of architecture and history

Cathy_R, Sep 2024
Great tour for seeing the structures in the city of St. John’s. (Homes, churches, parks, market etc.) we learned a lot of the history behind the city as well. Our tour guide was a local older man, lots of stories to tell. It was a nice slower pace walking tour. A bathroom stop at the local Market was available. Well worth the time and cost. I recommend.

Easy stroll of historic downtown

Jon_A, Aug 2024
Keith was great. Very knowledgeable and a great representative of St. John. Gave us a great taste of local life.

Nice but Not Memorable

Katherine_W, Aug 2024
Tour guide was nice and pleasant and work well with children. Often distracted conversing with locals like he was going on a walk with a family member. History shared was surface level only with little detail on the significance of sites.

Great walking tour!

Donna_M, Oct 2023
Art took us on a nice walking tour of his home town and we enjoyed all his stories. Only issue we had was that we were booked for a 9:30 tour and all of our emails said 10:00! Fortunately we still made it! That would have been very disappointing.

This was one of the best tours we've had in a long time. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the area because he grew up and live in the area. Shared his local knowledge and experiences. Very informative as he used to teach Canadian history. During this tour, we had a small group of two.

Local pride and interesting stories!

Glen_D, Jul 2022
Art, our guide, is clearly very proud of his hometown, so his stories were enthusiastic and authentic. We learned a lot about local history and had a great time talking with him. Highly recommend!

We took a really well paced walking tour of Saint John with Byron. He took us past places of interest, pointed out various architectural styles and brought it all around by connecting the history with all we saw. Interesting, informative and with the perfect drop off at the city market. Loved it! Byron was pretty great as a guide. Our family of four highly recommends!

A very interesting tour of downtown St John. Historical information was provided that brought to light the quite amazing history of the city, including the 1877 fire that destroyed 90 of the city. Our guide answered our questions, and if we asked one where he was not sure of the correct answer, he told us so. The tour was well worth while.

It was easy to find our tour. The directions were very clear. We had the best tour guide. His name was Dave and he has even written a book about Saint John. He was very accommodating. The town itself isn't as exciting as some other places we have been. We mostly looked at buildings and talked about the history of the town. We did end in the Market Place. The only down side which had nothing to do with the tour or Dave, was that for this native Californian, it was so cold! It distracted me a bit from the tour. Our tour was at 8:00am. Maybe later in the day when it is warmer.
