Our tour guide Eric responded with only sketchy one-word responses to our messages the day before (we wanted to confirm our very early meetup because we had a 6am entry ticket), and then he never showed up.
There were a few available guides at the entrance of Machu Picchu so we paid the same (expensive) fee to hire one of them. Luckily, the guide we ended up having (not associated with Viator) was fantastic, so we were happy Eric hadn't shown up (since we were not confident he would have been a good guide!), but we lost our money. Extremely disappointed.

Eric was our tour guide for the day and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the Inka Empire and Machu Picchu. He graciously waited several hours with us for the fog to clear to get the perfect picture at Machu Picchu. While at times we were pessimistic that the fog would clear, he continued to be optimistic and it turns out it cleared out enough to get a great picture. Not only he’s a great tour guide, he’s also a very good photographer as well. 😂

We visited the archaeological sites and felt the tour guide, Jimmy, was extremely knowledgeable. He took photos of the group throughout the day and was patient when we needed to rest. Most of the sites have walking and there were lots of stairs at Ollantaytambo. But each person was allowed to do what was good for them - especially because of the altitude. Overall i would definitely recommend this tour!

Ericson, our tour guide was excellent. He was extremely prompt, showing up earlier than the appointed time, took time to explain the tour and what we will do before starting, and provided in-depth detail on what we were seeing. He painted the picture nicely of the history and construction artefacts. He also very patiently helped us slowly climb up Huchuy Picchu and back taking a bunch of tremendous photos of us the whole time, while also carrying our backpack and extra items just so we could focus on the tour and sights.

I booked this tour at practically the last possible minute (dinnertime before our sunrise Machu Picchu tickets) because the hotel I was staying at spooked me by telling me we needed a guide to get in. That's not true, but my decision was our gain: Noe was a tremendous guide who made an already unbelievable experience even better. Erik was truly an amazing guide and new friend! He was really good at communicating via what’s app before and confirmed the meeting point. It was super easy to meet up with him and everything went so smoothly after that. He is very knowledgeable and had so much history to share with us as we toured Machu Picchu.
