Informative and fun! The guide explained how chocolate is extracted from cacao and how to tell "real" chocolate from not. Fun day!

Informative and delicious!

Absolutely loved it. Historic, delicious, and informative. I went with some friends who aren't super interested in history, and I was a little worried they'd be bored -- but they had a blast. We made little cups of historically accurate hot chocolate, drank traditional Costa Rican liquor that farmers used to drink on cacao farms, and ate cacao beans. Fun for all ages, family-owned, and felt ethically much better than any other chocolate tours in the area. You don't actually make any chocolate yourself -- which we were ok with, since the tour was interactive enough without it -- but if that's what you're looking for I don't want you to be disappointed. A great tour, definitely worth the money!

It was great to learn about the history of cacao, see it growing, taste it, and see how it is processed — into delicious products. We also enjoyed seeing vanilla, pineapples and other agricultural products on the plantation. The tour was personalized and informative.

Our guide, Gregory, was knowledgeable about the growth process of the cocoa bean as well as the chocolate making process. He kept everyone engaged throughout the tour with interesting facts about the cacao plants as well as the other plants being grown at the plantation. Tastings were provided at appropriate intervals and helped augment the tour experience. Our driver, Odiel, and Marguerite were wonderful, too.

This was a fun morning learning about this amazing fruit cacao and the process it takes to make chocolate. Our guide Juan was excellent and extremely knowledgeable about plants and how to use them medicinally. We learned a lot about the fruit and the power it has to change your health. It was fun to walk around the farm and see and learn all about the plants that grow there. I loved tasting the chocolate and learning the history behind this amazing fruit.

Amazing, educational, fun tour with one of the best tour guide's I've ever had.

My husband and I did this tour on my birthday as I am without a doubt one of the biggest chocolate and coffee lovers out there. We absolutely loved this tour, we saw cacao pods and were explained the process of turning this into chocolate from start to finish by one of the best, most engaging tour guides I've ever had- Gregory! Gregory was absolutely amazing. He involved us throughout in both crunching up the cacao into cacao nibs, eating a variety of different chocolates they make on the premises, tasting the best "hot chocolate" we've ever had, pushing the trapiche to get the sugar cane juice out for drinks, and watching the "most hipster coffee ever" being made. It was truly amazing- I'd recommend this to anyone who loves chocolate and/or coffee.

Very interesting tour - great way to spend an afternoon.

Renee_C, Jul 2023
This was a great tour. They picked us up at our hotel and took us to a cacao farm where they explained the entire process of growing the cacao and how it ultimately gets made into chocolate. Our guide, Juan was very knowledgeable and kept it all very interesting. We got to try an old fashioned hot chocolate drink, a chocolate bar, and an old fashioned soda. Great experience.
