Guides all very pleasant and enthusiastic about their subject. If you are pressed for time, the grand tour is well worth it.

Bring your togs - there may be swim at a beautiful bay.
Lots of bicycles on the island.
This tour covers a large part of the island
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Great to hear, thank you for choosing to travel with SeaLink, and yes, togs are essential in this hot summer weather!
Robert_H, Feb 2026
Lovely ferry ride from Perth to Rottnest, train ride fun, tour of gunnery good, stairs not a problem, bus tour extensive and we saw many quokas. stunning ocean views

We had an absolutely fantastic day on our Day tour! Nicky was an outstanding guide and driver—professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. Greg, our volunteer tour guide, was equally amazing, sharing great insights, stories, and enthusiasm that really brought the tour to life. Together they made the day memorable, well-organized, and fun. Highly recommend this tour and especially Nicky and Greg for an exceptional experience!

How wonderful to hear, thanks so much Cathy, we will be sure to pass your comments on to the Grand Island operator as well.

Worst experience as my trip was cancelled and viator didn't inform me.
I had to leave early today to go to the Barack jetty to know that my trip was cancelled.
I had to screw up my new year day because of bad customer service by viator
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Oh, we are so sorry to hear of your experience. Please feel free to contact us directly if we can assist at all, thank you.

All in all a lovely day!
I enjoyed my time on rottnest island a lot!
All was well organised and i didnt felt too rushed.
I just would.have loved more information from the departure point of the ferry. I just got told to get to the railway immediately after arriving there. I "wandered" around that area for 35 min until someone came.
Also it was a lot of bus driving. But for that Island thats normal and the train was fun!
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thanks for your feedback Stefan, sounds like you had a great day on the island. We apologise for the misleading information but glad to hear that it all worked out ok!
William_C, Oct 2025
The tour guides were great, knowledgeable, friendly, but the train was under maintenance, so was the direct ferry, it took 2-2.5 hours to get to and from the island from Perth, so 4-5 hrs on ferries.
I would have liked a bit more time on the island to roam around.
Itinerary could have been a bit clearer, that the bus tour follows on from the train tour.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you for your honest feedback William. We are sorry that the day you travelled with us was a day that we had one of our vessels in maintenance. It was also a day where the train (operated by a third-party tour company) was under maintenance, so bad timing all round. We do apologise for this William, as you sound quite disappointed. We hope you have a smoother experience next time you visit Rottnest Island!
Mimako_N, Oct 2025
Good day out, lots of variety and informative guide( Nicki/Bob😂) Very natural and covered all aspects of our expectations.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you for your kind review! We're delighted to hear you had a great day out and enjoyed the variety and insights from the wonderful guides!
Deborah_F, Sep 2025
Be prepared, there is very little information about your day if you go on a tour, nobody meets you at the ferry wharf & there's almost no signage so you're constantly asking for directions from anybody. Queueing up for the ferry home was utter chaos. The tour itself was excellent though & well worthwhile.
Joy_W, Sep 2025
Excellent day, however no info about where I should go once on the island! I had to get advice from the visitor centre, then received a SMS later....not very customer focused. It still worked out well and had a great day, seeing quite a bit of the island.
KELLY_L, Aug 2025
Viator bundles in this tour other operators. They do not communicate between themselves. So part of our tour was canceled with out our knowledge. No one told us how to join the bus tour. A local purely by luck told us where to go. The tour bus we were to be on was full. We were then told to get the next tour 2 hours later. Then there was the return again with the onus on us to get to the right place at the right time. Thank goodness the visitors centre was open and able to help us. All and all a stressful experience but worth the effort. Next time would not do it this way.
RAJIV_C, Jul 2025
Very good experience, from start to end.
The train tour by Kevin, the tunnels walk through by Megan as well the island bus tour by Robbo..it was a day well spent. and yes the unmissable quokkas!
I would definitely recommend Viator for the Grand Island/Quokka tours, a must have
karen_k, Jul 2025
It was a well organised and informative tour. The tour took us around the whole Island. The bus was comfortable the lunch was good. From the time we arrived we saw quokkas, they were every where. A tour not to miss, magnificent scenery.
Kerrie_H, Apr 2025
Excellent once we found where we had to be. A tip for tourists would be to find the train station when u first get to the island and go there… we got lost with poor instructions from clueless staff. Great tour guides. Lovely lunch. Comfortable travel and interesting info. Would recommend .. make sure u take a travacalm before journey and on way home as ferry can be a bit sickly
Serafina_D, Apr 2025
Rottnest Island is absolutely beautiful. Gorgeous beaches, clear blue waters, and plenty of wildlife. A relaxing day trip which included the ferry to the island, this took 1.5 hours, we had some free time, then joined the grand island tour, which included the historic train ride (around 18 minutes) a tour of Oliver Hill gun fortification and tunnels, lunch was provided, then we enjoyed the included bus tour around the island, stopping at various locations, like Wadjemup Lighthouse and Henrietta rocks. We were fortunate to see several quokkas in the afternoon. Overall had a very enjoyable day out at Rottnest Island.
Geoff_M, Apr 2025
It was very laid back, interesting and informative. Train ride was good, gun installation interesting

The Grand Island Tour on the bus was a very easy, convenient and quick way to see most of the island. Ferry arrived at 10am+ at the jetty. Had time to visit The Basin and soak feet in the water. Then quickly head back to meetup place for the bus tour. Which Started at 1130am and ended by 330pm. Good for elderly and those with children. The bus is air-conditioned and comfortable. Tour started at the Settlement Train station which is just 5 minutes walk from the jetty. We took a train up the hill to the lighthouse. From there, there is a tour by volunteers, explaining the history of the island. Thereafter we transferred to a bus and the tour guide is such a lovely lady. She had clear explanations and was familiar with the island. We had a simple lunch. A few Short stops at iconic places to take photos. Also managed to see 3 wild quokkas in its nature environment. If you want to snorkel, then you’ll have to get a bicycle , cycle to one of the beaches and spend more time there… with the bus tour there isn’t any time to snorkel or cycle ..as the ferry leaves at 430pm. We managed to get some gelato before we left. On a second visit , we could just rent a bicycle and snorkel to spend more time in the clear beautiful waters.

It's a great way to experience Rottnest island. You see all the highlights and have a about an hour of free time on arrival and before departure to do your own thing.
Roderick_T, Dec 2024
The grand tour was nice, we had a good time. It’s a full day guided train and bus tour around the island. Except the flies, overall it was a great experience.
Ian_R, Sep 2024
The rail and gun site tour were great, much better than our expectations. The afternoon bus tour around the island was tedious. Two hours of seeing similar bays and territory. It would be a better tour if it was an hour shorter.
Jennifer_W, Jan 2024
Would have been nice if a guide was near the jetty to give directions to the train or have clearly marked where the train leaves from. It was like it was a self guided tour to begin with. Lunch was nice, Wayne our bus driver seemed knowledgeable
Karen_M, Apr 2023
Great pick-up from Perth's Elizabeth Quay made it so much more accessible for us.
Boat trip along the Swan River was beautiful and the crew were on deck to answer questions as we went along. They even brought round ice-lollies just before we were about to hit a bit of rougher water to help with sea-sickness.
Arrival to Rottnest was a little chaotic with people waiting to board the ferry clogging the jetty for those trying to get off. Also a bit difficult to know where we had to go to meet the bus for our tour (the markings on the floor were very sun-faded!) The bus tour was interesting and I liked that our driver stopped along the route and opened the doors for us to get clear, unobstructed pictures. He was very informative and interesting about the island, the people and of course, the local wildlife!
Our bus tour ended, we were handed our lunches (bottle of water, a very well stuffed wrap and a cookie) and dropped off ready to board the train up to Gun Hill. Here were had a tour of the tunnels and the gun area which again was interesting, but it was a little confusing as they had 2 volunteers doing different tours and the bag drop area was crowded so made a big muddle!
Train ride back down to the settlement and then we had about 2 hours of free time to go Quokka hunting, shopping, get some food or drink (the bakery does awesome cakes, but after about 3pm there's not much left!)
4.30 ferry straight back to Elizabeth Quay.
Really interesting but tiring day - you could go to Rottnest and hire a bike to go round the island - but there's a LOT of hills, not much shade and to be honest, you don't get half as much information as we did on the bus!!
Lauren_N, Nov 2022
The bus tour was terrible, there was only one chance to get off the bus to take photos, and that meant a 600 metre walk and only 10 minutes to do it. The driver mention the name of each cove as we flew past, but there was little historical info, we drove past the cemetery yet there was no mention about it. The driver was late meeting us, and was distracted communicating with others from the company.
The train ride never happened, apparently this is normal so the 2 hour portion of that part of the trip ended up being 1 hour as a bus took us directly to the gun and tunnels.
Pick up from my hotel was offered, but only after I booked and paid was I informed that I would not be driven back from the dock to my hotel at the end of the day.
juliajenkins95, Oct 2022
We had an excellent driver on the tour bus. He was very informative. It was a shame the train was not working up to Oliver Hill but it wasn't a problem. The visit to the gun station was interesting. The quokkas were super cute
Stephen_B, Mar 2020
Tour was comprehensive, unfortunately we were delayed starting due to a couple being late, so we did not stop at all points along the way. Guide was knowledgeable.
JeanPierre_N, Sep 2025
Departure from Perth, with change of boat to Fremantle. Same goes for the return. The train is being maintained, replaced by a bus. Nice tour with beautiful scenery.
