Well worth the journey and the money. We hired a car and drove ourselves, so only paid the entry fee. The journey there was bumpy but it was great to pass through little villages and get to see the real Jamaica. The tour itself was very informative. Our guide Rasia was fun and had a lovely manner… pitched it really well. Great tasting experience after a delicious welcome drink on arrival. We then had a tasty meal in the restaurant on site, which was a fair price. The gift shop was lovely. Expensive, but that’s to be expected, and there’s something for every budget. Fully recommend this tour. We really enjoyed the whole experience from start to finish.

I did not get to experience the tour. Our plane was delayed at the last hour, so of course threw our plans off. I admit it was a rookie mistake to plan same day of landing, but thought since we had an early flight and later booking we would make it. Contacted the company as soon as possible when I had service to see if we could reschedule, was told no twice, then told could reschedule if I contact through help & support which I did and also called the ph no given 876-618-1895 still have not heard a reply back. So that is the reason for the low rating because they posted the payment before they they said they would to begin with and we still didn't get the tour, so out of money and tour while on vacation and no good customer service on top of that. Lesson learned dont plan excursion ahead of landing. Was trying to be prepared this trip and backfired on me I guess.

How to make the tour and guests experience more memorable.

I enjoyed all parts of the tour, especially the learning process. One suggestion I would make is that they provide some form of token/ souvenir at the end of the tour, which would show some form of gratitude to us the guest, if it’s even a small bottle of the signature brand because to spend whatever amount of money to attend but yet all you received is a cup of cane juice and tasting the variety of rum is just absurd . And frankly the cost for the product is way more expensive than in the supermarket. They can probably take a look at that. Why is it that we are visiting the factory but has to spend that high cost for purchasing and brewing our own rum? when I could use the total amount for that to purchase two 8yrs old in the supermarket.

Welcome drinks and restaurant access kept us preoccupied before the tour. The tour itself was short and sweet but very informative. The journey to the estate is very long…but the rum tasting and the restaurant food was certainly worth it!

A great experience! We enjoyed our time at the Appleton Estate and appreciate learning the history. The welcome drinks were a great way to start the experience! We had the Stormy Valley and it was so good that we had to get a refill before the tour started. Our tour guide David was great! It was my first time tasting actual ingredients that go into making rum! I’ve never tasted raw cane sugar or molasses before. So this was a pleasant surprise. We even got to walk into the facilities where the distilling takes place. Overall it was a great experience! At the end they offer the opportunity to bottle and label your own rum to take home. My boyfriend and I did it and said we would drink it until our wedding day! This was our first vacation together and it was such a cute way to celebrate that milestone.

Roads in Jamaica are tricky and we drove from Negril almost 3 hours to Appleton Estate, but it was really worth it. The tour incl. rum tastings was very informative, we have had a great time at Appleton Estate, our tour guide Peter was great. I can really recommend this tour!

The transportation picked us up right outside of the private neighborhood where we were staying about an hour from the plantation. Although the vehicle wasn't one of the official ones for that tour company, it was fine. The driver was friendly and pointed out several things even though there was no guide on the van with us. The plantation is run by the same tour company that provided transportation. We arrived before ten am and found plenty to keep us busy until we left at 3:30 pm. We had the cultural tour and there was a lot of freedom to time things so they were comfortable for you as well as to roam and take photos around the property. The other people on the van had one of the adventure packages. They were also happy, although they didn't have enough time to take the house tour. Normally not a huge fan of carriage rides, but you get a lot of historical info you don't get elsewhere. If you have kids old enough to understand and listen to what guides say, be prepared to answer their questions. The details of slavery on Jamaica are particularly disturbing. The guides aren't graphic, but anyone who can understand was more than a little appalled and slightly queasy at the history. The tour of the house is wonderful. We had our own guide. The view is wonderful and several movies were filmed on the property. The food is "tourist" Jamaican and decent enough. Prices for food are comparable or less than other tourist spots. All of the adventure sites looked well built and safe. The only slight negative was confusion about tipping. The first person on the property told us to turn in anyone who asked for tips and then every person thereafter asked for one. Happened to us everywhere in Jamaica - it's a systemic issue, but left us feeling awkward and guilty either way. From what we read and heard about other plantation tours on the island, this is probably the best - especially if you want to learn about Jamaica. Would def. recommend it.
