- In Rome, Vans are much better than buses. Vans carry up to 8 passengers, while buses carry 9 to 50. Buses are not allowed in most historic areas, so they can only drop you off at designated points. This means Buses have very limited authorized pickup and drop-off areas, so Bus tours often require walking 4–6 miles during the day. With larger groups, there is also more waiting—for people at attractions, restrooms, and snack stops. You’ll have less personal interaction with your driver and guide, and fewer opportunities to ask questions, since their attention is shared among many passengers.
- Vans and drivers are fully at your disposal throughout the tour, with access closer to attractions than buses allow—so you’ll walk less and see more!
- For groups over 8 passengers, please place multiple bookings. We will provide multiple Vans, based on availability and local regulations. All vehicles will travel together with the same stops, and guests may switch between vehicles at any time.
- PRIVATE-GUIDE FULLTIME IN ROME Option includes: Full-time driver and vehicle, entry to the Pantheon, Colosseum, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica, plus a dedicated licensed private guide and lunch at a traditional Roman restaurant
- PRIVATE-2HOURS VATICAN GUIDE Option includes: Full-time driver and vehicle, entry to the Pantheon, Colosseum, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica, plus a licensed private guide for 2 hours at the Vatican and lunch at a traditional Roman restaurant
- LIGHT TOUR-NO GUIDE NO TICKETS Option includes: ONLY Driver and Shared vehicle FullTime (up to 8 travelers). Solution with a lower price. NOT included Tickets, NOT included Tour Guide, NOT included Lunch
- PRIVATE Options – Important Information: Colosseum and Vatican Museums access: Please provide the full name of each traveler. Access issued from 2024 onward is strictly nominative, and each traveler must present a valid passport or ID that exactly matches the name provided at booking. Name changes are not permitted. If the name does not match the ID, or if a valid ID is not presented at Check Control, entry will be denied by Official Management Staff and no refund will be issued.
- PRIVATE Options – Important Information: Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel closures: Closed on Sundays, Easter (Sun–Mon), Jan 1 & 6, Feb 11, Mar 19, May 1, Jun 29, Aug 14 & 15, and Dec 8, 24, 25, 26 & 31. On these dates, you will visit one of Rome’s Ancient Catacombs instead (included). No refund is provided. Colosseum: For security reasons, delays may occur even with pre-booked access. If closed (Jan 1, May 1, Dec 25) or if access is unavailable, you will enjoy an exterior visit and receive a refund of €18 per person
- St Peter’s Basilica: on rare occasions could be closed or inaccessible or with a long line wait time to enter. It is over our control, so no refunds or discounts will be issued.

Visitors should be aware of the many steps to climb. The steps are not level and can be very slippery. I wore very sturdy shoes and still managed to miss the last little step at the Coliseum. I twisted my ankle. I am a very healthy woman but still managed to get hurt. My advice is walk slowly and watch where you are going. The tour was very ambitious to do in one day from the cruise ship because of the length of time and traffic. I would do it again but would walk slower! Our driver and guide were both prompt and helpful.

Thank you so much for leaving a review — we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!
We're proud to offer ambitious tours that aim to show guests as much as possible in a single day. We're truly sorry to hear about your ankle and hope you're feeling better soon.
That said, we’d like to gently clarify that we are not responsible for the official management of monuments like the Colosseum. The steps inside the Colosseum are over 2,000 years old and are walked by around 15 million visitors every year. Any concerns about the monument itself should be directed to its official administration.
We do our very best to provide a memorable and smooth experience, and it’s a little disheartening to receive just four stars for something outside our control.
Thanks again for joining our tour — we’d love to welcome you back anytime!

This was extraordinary with a wonderful, knowledgeable guide and caring driver. We saw the major sights and extras, they also accommodated a change in one of the participants to gain entry into one of the venues.

We’re so glad to hear your "Rome in a Day" tour was such a fantastic experience. It means a lot to us that you felt well taken care of by both your guide and driver.

Very knowledgeable guide and very efficient driver. Saw everything we wanted to see. Lunch was a little rushed so that we could keep on schedule.

As it was very hot the air conditioned vehicle between visits was superb. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had sorted out everything so we were able to visit all the sites. Please ask him to send the photos to my email address.

Excellent driver & even better guide. Francesca was phenomenal. Could not have seen, learned and done as much any other way. We had a group of 12 and you made it a great day. Thank you for such a wonderful outing.

We took the "Civitavecchia Cruise Port Shore Excursion with Full Day Rome with "Skip-the Line" Vatican Museums (including the Sistine Chapel) & Colosseum" tour offered by Viator with "Italy Best Excursions" providing our driver, Govani and our personal Rome guide, Francesco. We had only one day in Rome and knew it more than likely be our one shot deal to visit Rome. In the days time we had we were able to see and do everything on our list and much more. Although our ship offered extra tours to individual locations in Rome, we wanted to do much more....and we did! Many thanks to our driver, Govani, and expert/knowledgable Rome Guide, Francesco, for making our visit to Rome so enjoyable with memories to last a lifetime.

Tour was excellent. Perhaps not for everyone, but a convenient way to see the major sites with a limited amount of time. Our driver Valentino was superb - knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. His recommendation for lunch, delicious and perfect. Ask for him if possible.

This tour was Awesome. Our driver Giovanni was excellent. If you want to see Rome in a day this is the way to do it. We saw everything we wanted to see and Giovanni was so knowledgeable abut everything. We learned so much about Rome and have beautiful pictures and memories. If I could give it a 10 I would. Do not hesitate to book this tour.

What a way to see Rome! Our driver had only the 4 of us and made sure we got to see everything there was to see in Rome! Plus hooked us up for a fantastic local lunch!
Donna_M, Aug 2018
Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and accommodating for the things we wanted to see. However, our big complaint is that he took us to the Colosseum one and a half hours before our scheduled time and they would not honor our

Paolo knew all the ins and out to wisk us from our cruise ship to more sights in Rome than I can count.
What a great experience.
Diane_L, Jul 2018
We had such a great day visiting all the locations described in our tour. Our driver was a great guy who was very knowledgeable. He even made lunch reservations at a delightful Italian Restaurant. We ended our tour by meeting our private tour guide at the Vatacian. This is the only way to see the Vatacian and learn so much about it.
Claudia_R, Jul 2018
My family and I had a great time in this tour. I would recommend to get a tour guide specially in the Vatican museums.

We ended with a nice day in Rome. Mauro our drive we excellent. Very knowledgeable and knows Rome like his background. He weaved around the narrow streets and getting to places in great time. Lunch, next to the UN building, was good and reasonably priced. The disappointment was we didn’t get to go into the St. Peter Basilica. It was a Wednesday, a day when the Pope was doing his weekly blessing over the St Peter Square. So the Basilica was closed in the morning. When we booked the excursion, Viator should have mentioned it. Furthermore, the big screw up was that they cancelled our earlier reversation when we only asked for a change in our plans. Luckily we were still able to get this excursion and see most of the highlights. You might get a better price from others, but not with a private van as we did. Note that buses are not allow in the historical areas of Rome (ie: ship excursions are with Buses). This mean that the bus will drop you off and your will walk the 6 hours to the other side of town at the end of the tour to be picked up. Viator’s Rome excusions are with private vans. Just don’t make changes and confuse the agents and you will be fine. Got back to boat on time for all 3 days excursion with Viator.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're truly pleased to hear that you enjoyed your day in Rome and appreciated Mauro’s professionalism, driving skills, and knowledge — he, like all our team, takes great pride in delivering exceptional service.
That’s exactly why we were surprised and a bit disappointed by the 3-star rating.
Your tour was carried out fully and professionally, including all accessible sites on the day, as clearly described. As stated in the tour details prior to booking, certain monuments such as St. Peter’s Basilica may be closed due to official Vatican events, which are entirely beyond our control. In fact, every Wednesday morning the Basilica is closed to the public due to the Papal Audience, which is a long-standing and publicized Vatican schedule.
Additionally, the reservation confusion you mentioned was not connected to our company in any way. It appears to have involved a previous booking made with a different agency. We respectfully ask that such unrelated issues not impact the review of our service, which was delivered as promised and recognized positively even in your own comments.
We truly believe a 5-star rating would better reflect the experience and commitment we put into organizing this private tour — and we would greatly appreciate if you’d consider revising your review accordingly.
Should you need anything else in the future, we’re always here for you.
Warm regards,
Giovanni
