Make your way to the Batik Workshop Center, a short distance from the Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers, downtown attractions, and transport. You'll learn the basics of painting batik and follow the process from start to finish: start with a piece of undyed fabric that’s been pre-waxed with a pattern, choosing from a variety of different designs.
Traditional Malaysian batik uses a technique called wax-resist dying that’s been practiced in Southeast Asia for hundreds of years, but Malaysian batiks have distinctive colors and patterns. Choose your colors and learn to fill them in, or practice mixing primary colors into fully-customized secondary hues. After the workshop, you’ll have access to a nearby garden café and batik gallery, and may take home your creation, a square cloth that’s 7.8 inches (20 cm.) across.

We had the most wonderful time creating our Batik designs. Emilia is an incredible artist and the kindest, warmest, and funniest person. She was extremely patient with us, taking photos and videos to help us remember this special experience.
Her talent is truly undeniable, reflected in the numerous awards and beautiful art displays throughout her workshop and home. We even joked about getting married (many thanks for the hint, Emilia—we just got engaged!).
We wish Emilia all the best in her work and in continuing to share her remarkable talent with others. We will definitely return the next time we’re in Kuala Lumpur! We recommend this experience wholeheartedly
