We had a blast: we left...

We had a blast: we left Kiruna with cloudy sky after being told there may be the possibility it wouldn't clear up in time: expectations were set appropriately. The van wasn't well heated but we were given appropriate winter gears. When we got to the forest cabin, the sky opened up and we had an amazing view of the northern lights: super strong because of some extremely intense solar activity. Very lucky indeed

    10/10 would recommend

I was very pleasantly surprised. The weather in Kiruna was awful, cloudy and hazy so I was super negative about seeing the lights but the guides managed to follow them and find them. Almost getting to the destination the lights were so strong they pull over in the highway so we could get out and see them, we were so close to the destination but they wanted to make sure we would see them. That was a very nice thing of them to do!! The lights were SOOO strong, gorgeous!! They also made a fire which was much needed in the cold, gave us some very tasty warm juice with refills and some snack. You're paying for mostly the drive but 100% worth it.

Not worth at all. Choose another tour operator

Not worth the money spent. They took no extra effort to travel to chase Northern Lights. The guide was in a hurry to get back home and wanted to just leave in 2+ hours.. Plus the company just drove less than 20-25 kms to see Northern Lights despite claiming that they travel 100kms to chase.

    Great guide, bad bus

    Ben_H, Jan 2023
Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the northern lights. We weren’t able to see any but had some lovely snacks. The biggest issue was that the minibus didn’t seem to have working heat so we were very cold. The gears also seemed a bit touchy as we almost went into a snow bank. Aside from that we enjoyed the tour.

    Amazing and unforgettable.

Amazing tour. This is my 6th tour chasing Aurora, but the first time I saw it. Matt, our guide was really great, not only to find the Aurora, but he also told interesting stories about the town and area. On the last stop he made a small fire on the frozen river, and we got to taste local specialities. I can highly recommend Kiruna Guidetour, and already consider going there again with the kids. Thanks for the great experience.

    MAGIC

Well, first of all, to make clear a few things. Chasing the Lights is not an easy thing to do and the outcome is based on a range of factors, mostly on the weather, which means a cloudless sky and a very strong solar activity at the same time. We went out for the Aurora on the 4th of April. Our guide was Emily AND THANKS TO HER we managed to see the lights. It was Emily who MADE THE DIFFERENCE. She drove us, initially up to Abisko, while watching all the time the weather report, trying to have us ahead of the clouds. We stopped at Abisko and waited, but nothing happened. Then, she drove us even further west, and, yes, WE SAW THE GREEN LIGHT, appearing in the sky, like green ink spreading in a paper sky. I felt the chills, because it's something extraordinary, as if the creator / nature still wants to reveal things to humans. Anyway, my friend took some pictures, but Emily still wanted to keep us satisfied the most, so she took us to a darker and kinda more remote spot, where we, again, had the chance to see the lights. Emily was very kind, talkative and persistent. Without her professionalism, perhaps we wouldn't have achieved the Borealis. Thank you Emily for everything !!!

    The tour we Booker was...

    Michael_S, Jan 2022
The tour we Booker was Not what we got. This was the worst tour we ever booked. As we expected we startet the Tour at the Kiruna Guidetur office at 8pm. The Tour should be about 4 Hours Long with a break with tea and coffee. When we asked the driver in the beginning of the tour what his plans are, he responded “No, I don,t have a plan” . Instead of 4 Hours it only took 1 and 3/4 hours. The driver drove us to one place and then drove us back without telling us where he was planing to go. We then realised he was taking us back to the office and said the trip was over. He didn’t ask us if we wanted to go back and stop the tour or keep on going! The driver decided himself to stop the tour. When asking for a partial refund they refused to give us more than +/- €20 for a trip that costs over €130 each. The driver lied about the places he stopped and about not telling us going back. After more than one hour waiting in the office after returning from the trip, they offered us to finish the trip with the same driver who said that there was 'no chance of seeing the northern lights'. Of corse there is a chance of not seeing the lights, what was not the point, but the way the company handled their fault was really bad! If we book a tour over 4 hours with tea and coffee break, then we expect the company to take us around for the booked time and not stopping the tour just because he doesn’t want to drive anymore. And if the tour was to be stopped then with a partial refund, half tour is half the price. Don't book the Northern Lights trip at this company, we don’t recommend it with Kiruna guide tour.

Thank you for your feedback. First of all, we are very sorry about this tour. It was many faults from our side. First of all, it was really bad of the guide to return so early. It was our supplier who took this tour since our original guide got sick with very short notice and we were about to cancel the tour but then this supplier said that they could help us. And secondly the guide should have given you warm clothes and warm drink. I heard that it was very cold and it wasn't pleasant to be outside. I'm so sorry. It is really because of our bad communication. We are very sorry about that. But this wasn't our first time to work together so we even didn't think about this. But we will make sure that they follow exactly how we run a tour when they take our tour. Other things from what I read what you wrote and what I have got from this supplier - first of all the guide didn't tell that there is no chance to see Northern light. He said that it isn't chance to see in Abisko. He made several stops and put the camera on a tripod and he could see Northern light on the camera. According to the owner the guide told you that you could see northern lights on camera. Secondly, i heard that the owner self went to our office to explain and offered you to continue the tour. But you didn't want to. The owner emphasized that they did offer to continue the tour and when you said no she felt that she couldn't force you and she didn't know what they could do. It is really not what we wish things would be and I'm so sorry that we couldn't deliver our service in a good way.

    Tolles Erlebnis
