I attended the cooking class today and I’m truly impressed. Even though I was the only participant, everything was conducted completely normally. I cooked and ate four dishes, and I can genuinely recommend this class to everyone from the bottom of my heart!

Overview

Learn more about Nepali culture through its food. During this fun, hands-on cooking class, participants will start from scratch by learning how to choose the best ingredients, and work through to complicated techniques, like making momos. Three different menus are offered, each containing four traditional Nepali dishes, so there should be something for everyone to enjoy. Foodies and enthusiastic cooks will especially enjoy this activity, but you don’t need to have cooking experience.

We chose the three course meal. You had three menu options to choose from. We made an chapata egg roll where we made the dough ourselves. It was delicious. We made a chicken curry with Dahl on the side and chocolate momos( so delicious). The instructors were friendly and did a great job teaching us how to cook Nepalese cuisine. A fun way to spend our last evening in Kathmandu!

I had a wonderful experience at the Nepal Cooking School! I chose one of the three menus, and I was so excited that they all taught you how to make momo. As the only student that afternoon, I had my teachers' undivided attention, which gave me the freedom to ask as many questions as I wanted. Both teachers were incredibly welcoming and happy to have me. We started by using my "sniffing power" to identify the spices used in Nepali cuisine, and then the four-course cooking began. I even had a funny challenge trying to perfect my momo—it was such a fun experience! I highly recommend this class to everyone. You'll have a blast cooking and get to enjoy your own delicious creations afterward.

Wow, what a fantastic evening! Anshu and the girls were superb in showing us how to cook Nepalise food and threw in a quick dance lesson too to round off the evening. We started the evening by visiting the market and having all the ingredients explained. Then it was back to the kitchen and excellent explanation and demonstration of what to do. We cannot wait to try cooking some of the food when we are back home as they provided a detailed cook book. Perfect evening with fun and friendly Anshu and team. Would recommend this to anyone.

The whole experience was really fabulous. The teachers were really full of fun and laughter and joy, as well as being skilled cooks. The food we made was all delicious. The instructions were clear. And the way we were taught made it all seem to possible to make again back home. We rounded off the evening with Nepali music and dancing which was really so wonerful. I had not slept for 36 hours, so before I arrived I nearly thought about cancelling I was so tired. But the whole thing was totally worth every penny and I highly recommend it to anyone who comes to Kathmandu.

My friend and I took the class and it was so much fun. They modified the menu to be gluten-free and taught us good local tips. We aso enjoyed being taken to a local spice shop and were able to buy some of the spices to take home. The ladies who taught were kind, funny and taught well!

Amazing Experience

I cannot recommend this experience enough, it was incredible. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Not only did I get the opportunity to cook new dishes and learn about new foods, before the class officially started the staff escorted me to local markets to give me information about produce and and the history of those in the country. And doing the actual cooking class, the instructors were able to explain the processes and the origins of things. And they would show me how to prepare certain things and then allow me to demonstrate, and they always To see if I had any questions. This was one of the most fun experiences I had in Nepal, and if I come back, I am 100% doing it again.

It was fun. I did not see any benefit of the shopping experience and it took much time. We could have made an additional recipe without the shopping. The recipes that we did make were good and representative of the area. I did not like the 4 flights of steps required to get to the kitchen. Overall it was good.

What a delightful experience ! Nilam, our lovely cooking instructor, was a brilliant.. Everything was so well organized, clean and so much fun. We went for a jaunt through the busy little streets to the local vegetable and spice markets. Nilam explained all the spices and exactly how to prepare the 4 Nepalese dishes we were to cook. Then we enjoyed eating our final products…. Yummy!!!! I highly recommend this experience with The Nepal Cooking class and Nilam!!!! P.S. just be aware you must climb 4 flights of stairs 😉

!!! French version below !!! My favourite experience in Kathmandu ! If you are looking for something authentic look no more. The people are amazing, instructions easy to follow and the food is of course delicious. It's such a fun experience and something you can 'take home' (cannot wait to try Chatamari for brunch). You will have a good time ! Mon activité favorite à Kathmandu ! Si vous recherchez quelque chose d'authentique ne cherchez pas plus loin. Les personnes qui s'occupent de l'activité sont extra, les instructions faciles à suivre et bien sur la nourriture est délicieuse. C'est vraiment une activité sympa qui permet de ramener un peu de culture chez soit (hate de tenter les chatamari en pli dej). Bon moment assuré !
