Itinerary

Meet your driver at your Dead Sea hotel and travel east by private, air-conditioned vehicle to Mt. Nebo.

Journey through the arid landscapes and climb to the ridgetop of Mt. Nebo, where tradition holds that Moses viewed the Promised Land before he died. Soak up the sweeping views over the Jordan Valley, and on a clear day, to Jericho and Jerusalem; and see the modern sculpture of Moses’ staff at one end of the ridge.

Meet up with a local guide and head inside the modern Memorial Church of Moses, home to several ancient mosaics. Take a tour of the highlights, seeing the beautiful 6th-century floor mosaics depicting soldiers, hunting, and animals including peacocks, ostriches, and lions.

Learn about the mosaics’ history from your guide, and view other mosaics and art dating from the two early medieval baptisteries that once stood here.

Next, continue to the town of Madaba, home to the famous Mosaic Map and Madaba Archaeological Park. With a local guide, head inside the 19th-century St. George’s Church to see the Mosaic Map, a stunning 6th-century artwork depicting the Holy Land of the time.

Wander around this richly detailed masterpiece, the world’s oldest image of the region, admiring its renderings of the Dead Sea, Jericho, and other biblical locations, as well as Jerusalem.

Then, stroll to the nearby open-air archaeological park that showcases the remains of Byzantine churches, a Roman street, and a 6th-century villa. Inspect the antiquities here, and admire the villa’s showpiece mosaic, with its scenes of the four seasons and Greek gods.

Finally, return to the Dead Sea where your trip ends with a hotel drop-off.
