A waste of a day.

2019Kate57, Oct 2019
I picked this tour because it was advertised as a 5 hour trip. Allowing for an hour each way, I assumed we would have 3 hours at the palace. However, we were just an add-on to another tour, so we were driven to where they were having lunch which was an endless drive from our hotel and had to wait until 1.45 to start the tour although the advertised starting time was 12.30. After a stop in a panoramic area for 15 minutes we retraced our steps back to the Dolmabahce Palace and had 1 hour of a rushed guided tour with a guide who was less than informative. 15 minutes free at the end of the 45 min guided tour did not give us enough time to even walk around the Palace. I rate this trip as a total disappointment.

Half day tour of Dolmabahce Palace

Flerida_G, Jul 2019
It would have been nice to see all sections of the palace, but the tour guide seemed to think we did not have time.

Thank you for choosing to visit Dolmabahçe Palace with us. We hjave talked to our guide and asked aboutm this remark of yours. He told us that he guided to all possible places that is part of the tour; but due to time limitattion of the tour there was no time to visit every part of the palace (as it requires much more time than what it is scheculded for this tour).

Very personalised tour as we were only 3 people on the group. The guide was really sweet. Camlica Hills offers great views over both european and asian side of Istanbul. Good place for picnic on top of the hill. The weather was lovely for the tour. And Dolmabahce Palace is a jewel in the crown for Istanbul, however the locals do not like the history associated with it but it is definitely a must visit for all tourists!

Dear Sana, Thank you for your wonderull review on our tour. We hope to see you again in one of our Istanbul Walks tours.

Nasir A, Aug 2017
253 for 4 adults and 5 children for approx 40mins of actual tour is a rip off, not worth a spend at all! We expected a full bus but only 1 other person joined us after about 40minutes of travel from our hotel and during that journey the tour wasnt with us and we were sitting in the bus not knowing where we are going, not a single word from the driver. This was advertised as 5 hour tour but only 40mins was the actual tour and another 60 mins on the road. Supposed to visit Dolmabahce Palace instead they took us to Chora Museum that was under major refurbishment/restoration work and I would say only 20 of the area was open and rest 80 was unaccessible because of the restoration work. We traveled over the Bhohsporus bridge but no commentory from the tour guide, i.e. history. This wasn't a tour but a very expensive taxi service!!

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Dear Nasir, Thank you for your review on our tour. Here are some notes that would explain the whole situatiation. The tour that you joined is a "shared tour and not a private one"; yournexpectaiton to be in full bus is not possible as this tour is limited to 15 passengers (it writes in the itinerary); following the pick ups the tour starts and the guide is explaining duirg the tour. Regarding your complaint that you were suppose to visit the Dolmabahce Palace I must say that if you read carefully the itinerary, it wrties the following: "Dolmabahçe Palace is closed on Mondays, we will replace this visit with St. Chora Church museum visit instead of Dolmabahçe Palace visit on Mondays." I would like to gthank your for your participation; I am sorry the you missed reading this infomation and hope to see you in one of our other tours.

It was wonderful.....Dolmabahce Palace is beautiful. Our guide Elliyan I think was very knowledgeable and friendly. The bus driver too was a friendly and a patient man. The way he navigated the big bus through the narrow streets of Istanbul was amazing.

the guide was unfriendly and the Camlica hill we drove for a long time to reach it and the view was not worth the hassle.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Dear Basel, Our guides are well trained to act friendly to all our guests, however, if he acted unfriendly as you stated we apologise for the inconvinience. Unfortunaltely the traffic in Istanbul is not relaxing at ll times as it is metropolis. Thank you for joinining our tour.

Weatherford T, Aug 2015
Dolmabache Palace is worth seeing. Istanbul Walks is a good company with friendly guides. Logistics and scheduling could be a lot better. I know these companies maximise revenues by mixing half and full day tours, but it can be a challenge logistically I had to do some waiting because my afternoon start time meant the full day group had to come meet me. I think guides in general, not just in Istanbul, should make its high priority to introduce guests by name at the outset of the tour. I often introduce myself to guests, but I believe it would be in the guides' best interests to do this and take responsibility, making for better group chemistry. I've been on a lot of tours this summer, and only a fraction of them included the guides' eliciting names from participants at the beginning. If I'm spending between four and eight hours with someone, it's more comfortable if I know his or her name.

Susan F, May 2015
The tour of Dolmabahce Palace was well-organized and I appreciated the information given to us by the guide. However, traffic was so heavy that we spent way too much time in the bus trying to get to the Bosphorus Bridge and Camlica Hill and, in my opinion, the view from either were not worth the drive.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

We had a knowledgeable guide. Enjoyed tour but wish pick-up point would be established when booking the tour. When coming from the ship taxi drivers tell you meeting point is a great distance when it is right across the street. Please have pick-up point for cruise passengers designated with address given before sailing.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Dear guest, Thank you for your review and apologies for very late reply. As you stated the pick ups for the tour was established and you can arrange pick ups while booking the tour. we aill definetly consider tour note for pick ups from the ships.

This was a good short tour. We were picked up on time and driven to the Asian side. Had some time to take pictures. Then went to the tour at the palace, which is amazing. I was very impressed. The guide was informative and took his time. At the end, we were dropped off at our hotel.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Excellent tour. It was great to see Europe from Camlica Hill in Asia. Except for the ever-present traffic of Istanbul, the trip over the Bosphorous Bridge and around the city was interesting. Enjoyed the palace tour. Excellent guide and well-planned tour. Definitely worthwhile.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Dear Yogesh, Thank you for your excellent review on our tour. We wish to see you again in one of our Istanbul Walks tours.

PaulGBoston, May 2014
I had the tour all to myself. It's operated by Istanbul Walks. The pick up was prompt and the guide was engaging and friendly. They take you to the top of the hill and you can see Istanbul if it's clear. After, we went to the Palace which was interesting and the guide provided a lot of interesting information during the interior tour. If you want to see the last Ottoman palace built in Istanbul, it's worth the afternoon.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Dear Paul, Thank you for your excellent review on our tour. We wish to see you again in the future in one of our Istanbul Walks tours.
