Day well spent

Sidra_V, Apr 2026
It was all well worth it. Ben was amazing in showing us around and giving us information about history. Loved Pirate bay, Port Arthur, rich history there and vast grounds. Enjoyed lavender ice cream from Richmond to end the day.

Wonderful experience

Great experience esp Patrick as the guide it was a breeze and we really enjoyed the entire trip and back

Great Day!

sharoninsydney, Feb 2026
This tour does so much -bush walk, lavender farm and Port Arthur which was amazing. Our guide Matt was terrific - fun, knowledgeable and had some great stories to share. A great day.

Fantastic, well-paced full day. Excellent tour guide and all was very easy to follow. Highly recommend.

A little commercial and rushed.

Rebekah_R, Dec 2025
The other travellers on the bus were really lovely. The bus driver/tour guide had a reasonable knowledge. I thought that there would be a tour of the grounds around Port Arthur as a group. It was done before entering and kind of rushed. The main reason I went on a tour rather than solo was to have a guided tour of Port Arthur so that was a little disappointing. The lavender farm was very rushed as well. I was the only one who opted for the lavender farm and I was given strictly 30 minutes. The driver was a little bit irritable at times and the experience was rather commercial. The other passengers were very amiable and pleasant and the scenery was great. I saw other groups being led around the grounds so I think it's probably better to book directly with Port Arthur and organise a tour through them.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your tour experience. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the company of your fellow travellers and the beautiful scenery along the way. I'd like to clarify a few points about the Port Arthur component of the tour. Our guides are not permitted to conduct guided tours through the Port Arthur Historic Site itself - this is a requirement set by Port Arthur to protect the integrity of the information at this World Heritage Site. However, your entry ticket includes a comprehensive audio tour via podcast, and Port Arthur's own expert guides are stationed throughout the site offering regular interpretive talks throughout the day. Your ticket also includes the Harbour Cruise, which features on board interpretation delivered by Port Arthur. For those wanting a more structured guided experience, Port Arthur offers additional guided walking tours that can be purchased on-site. If you'd like to discuss your experience further, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Great experience, very passionate and professional tour guide. Great attractions, safe driving and comfortable trip.

Lovely tour

Pat_T, Jul 2024
Peter (our tour guide and driver) was very welcoming, with anecdotes and facts about Hobart. The weather wasn’t great but added to the experience of Port Arthur. Unfortunately we went at a time when the Lavender Farm wasn’t in bloom (our fault, not their’s) so probably not worth going to that component unless the lavender is in bloom. Nice to see these sites without needing to drive yourself!

Excellent day!

Ilora_G, Jul 2024
The whole day was excellent! Our guide (Ben?) was full of knowledge and loved a joke which made it fun! Highly recommend

Superb trip with excellent guide Nick.

Anna_L, May 2024
Superb professional guide Nick. Very informative wherever we went. Impressed with the coastal landscapes. Very good understanding about history of Port Arthur.

A great day out

Stefani_S, Apr 2024
Our guide, Nick was an excellent raconteur and taught us in the most engaging, clear way. I was captivated by the stories he told of the history, geology and economy of the area between Hobart and Port Arthur.

Perfect tour for one day

Sakshi_H, Apr 2024
Port Arthur is very unique. The tour was very informative and tour guide was amazing. Covered many small towns and small activities on the way

Port Arthur day trip with Lavender Farm.

lola_k, Mar 2024
Enjoyed the stop at the blow hole, Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen to start. Nice lunch at the Lavender Farm. Port Arthur was an interesting visit, seeing the ruins and being in a place where so much has happened in the past. Definitely not to be missed. Back seat of the bus is very bumpy but I understand why they take a small bus, great that the tour was only a small group.

Port Arthur Tour

Ade_S, Jan 2024
An unforgettable trip to Port Arthur and surroundings. I was travelling solo and highly recommend you to book the trips with Tassie Tour. The guide, Nicholas, was passionate about explaining the story of Tasmania and Port Arthur in particular. We also met Neil, the seal in Dunnaley.

Lavender and Neil the seal

Bindiya_S, Dec 2023
The easy walk provided some of the best views. The lavender on the farm was in bloom, beautiful. We got to see Neil the seal !

Had a great trip to Port Arthur. Really knowledgeable driver/tour guide. Perfect amout of time in each place. Very well planned trip

Great day!

Kevin_S, Mar 2023
We enjoyed the spectacular cliffs along Waterfall Bay track. We visited the Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary (Unzoo) instead of the Lavender Farm. We found the staff there very informative and learned much about the devils and the birds of the area. Port Arthur was amazing, our visit was too short to take in all there was to see. History is sometimes difficult to absorb. Nicolas was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable, accommodating, and entertaining. Very enjoyable day!

David looked after us...

Janet_T, Jan 2023
David looked after us very well with all his stories and very amusing commentary. Because it was a family operated business there was some flexibility with the day’s itinerary. Highly recommended especially for families with kids.

The tour guide was really...

Upeksha_S, Nov 2022
The tour guide was really nice and very good. My only disappointment was the "Explore the Port Arthur Lavender Farm" this is actually a lavender-infused product shop. I was hoping to see some lavender farms.

The trip was quite rushed...

David_S, Nov 2022
The trip was quite rushed and the lavender farm a disappointment as the lavender was not in bloom.I felt we should have been given the option to spend more time at port Arthur as that also was very rushed. Also going to Richmond at 4.30 pm when most places are packing up was a disappointment.I think I would tell people to spend all day at port Arthur as you could not see it in 3 hours.

Good tour

Jane_L, Oct 2022
Great tour. The driver and guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour covered many interesting sights.

Amazing experience

Lynn_K, Aug 2022
Rewarding experience that was packed with loads of activities and breathtaking views! Enjoyed every moment of it :) Our guide Nick was amazing throughout as well. Only downside was the rain and the short time we had at Lavender farm and Richmond town.

Lots of history

Kathryn_P, Jun 2022
Pt Arthur is very interesting and has lots of history. Would have been nice to know about the extra tours they have there and time allowed to do them. The lavender farm clearly advertised is only an optional extra that has to be pre booked and stopping at a small village at 4.30pm was pretty pointless.

Doo-recommend

Renee_B, May 2022
Guide was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of commentary throughout the journey. Some cute stops along the way including Doo town. They were also accomodating and let us change to visit the Tassie devils as they had already harvested the lavender.

Fascinating Historical Port Arthur

Gerald_T, Mar 2022
Clinton our tour guide was very informative and had a great sense of humour, which made the experience very pleasant. Easy walk along the Tasman National Park coastal lookout, Port Arthur was fascinating, and the Lavender Farm was relaxing.

Fantastic tour covering beautiful lookouts and Fascinating Historical Port Arthur

Robert_H, Mar 2022
Loved the beautiful coastal lookout views along Tasman National Park. Port Arthurs historic convict prisons and surroundings were fascinating.

Thought provoking and harrowing place

Helen_S, Feb 2022
Our driver Trevor was a fantastic source of information. Trevor was punctual, patient with our group of 11, informative, and had a great sense of humour. Trevor’s passion for Tasmania and for his work as tour guide introducing visitors to Tasmania was wonderful. The tour was well organised and I enjoyed the lavender farm on the way to Port Arthur. Port Arthur is immensely historically interesting and harrowing. What struck me though is that in the modern day, people who are waiting for their cases to go to court (so not convicts but remanded) are also a 6 digit number often locked up in a small cell with another inmate for up to 23 hours a day. Covid has caused more lock-ins than ever. There is modern day romanticism and hero-worship of olden day convicts and a lot of sympathy for the terrible hardship, yet the same sympathy and empathy does not exist for modern day inmates. What was also horrific about Port Arthur was the treatment of mentally unwell convicts. The methods were not conducive to actual treatment and recovery. It was more about locking up, restricting and “managing” rather than compassionate care. Again, in the modern day with so many cuts to government funding, how much better is our treatment of mentally ill people especially those in prisons? And look how poorly the people in aged and disability care are often treated. Port Arthur is thought provoking. The past is not that remote. We need to do better in the modern day.
