Our group of 17 really enjoyed the trip. Great insight into Hobart and the commentary was informative and interesting…whilst also hilarious! Great way to see many local sights. Despite Hobart putting on a cold and rainy day, Red Decker were amazing and sent extra busses with enclosed tops so we could stay as dry and warm as possible. Highly recommend

Cruising Hobart on a Double Decker Bus ticks ALL the boxes

Yvonne_R, Mar 2026
A well planned route of 20 stops for viewing sites of interest and hearing about Hobart’s interesting history. For lovers of walking I recommend getting off at the Cascade Brewery and walk the Rivulet Track back into town. You may spy a platypus! And I highly recommend the Botanical Gardens for a wander =] The mature trees are just something else! The drivers go above and beyond when it comes to customer service so an all round 10/10 from me!

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear Yvonne_R, Thank you for such a fantastic 5-star review! We’re so pleased you enjoyed exploring Hobart on the tour and that the route and commentary helped bring the city’s history to life. Great tips as well — the walk from Cascade along the Rivulet Track and a visit to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are both great choices :) And spotting a platypus would definitely be a highlight! It’s wonderful to hear our drivers made such a positive impression — we’ll be sure to pass that on to the team. Thanks again for travelling with us and for the 10/10 recommendation! Marnie_H, Mar 2026
It was raining and everyone got wet as we went around corners..bus had a top but open windows on the 2nd level..the bus attendants were as helpful as they could be in the circumstances Picture taking was limited due to the rain. If they had closed buses available for rainy days it would have been a more pleasant experience

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear Marnie_H, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry the rainy weather affected your experience on the day. Our sightseeing buses are open-top double-decker, which provide the best views around the city in normal conditions. On the day you travelled we had both open-top and fully enclosed buses operating on the route, departing regularly throughout the day. Due to the rain many guests understandably preferred to wait for the enclosed buses, which meant those seats filled very quickly. We were operating all available services to try and accommodate everyone, however when a large number of guests are travelling at the same time it isn’t always possible for everyone to fit on the enclosed buses. We’re very pleased to hear your kind comments about our bus attendants and that they did their best to assist despite the conditions. Thank you again for travelling with us and for taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards, Bianca C. Guest Relations Manager

Chaotic

khfitzsimmonssasktel, Mar 2026
Disorganized. Boarding was a mess, with ticket sales being done at the front of the bus, resulting in a huge delay. Of course this was in rain but that was no excuse. Ticket sales should be done while people are queuing so when a bus arrived it did not take over 20 minutes to board. On a very positive note the young lady on the upper deck who was mopping dry seats went way beyond what was expected.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear khfitzsimmonssasktel, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry the boarding process felt slower than expected on the day you travelled. With the heavy rain at the time, selling tickets further along the queue wasn’t practical as paper tickets and EFTPOS machines don’t function well in those conditions, so ticketing was completed as passengers board the bus. Boarding can also take a little time as guests find seats and settle in. We’re very pleased to hear your kind words about the staff member upstairs who was drying the seats. We’re lucky to have such dedicated team members and we’ll be sure to pass your feedback on to her. Thank you again for travelling with us and for taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards, Bianca C. Guest Relations Manager

Dear Lisa_C, Thank you for such a wonderful 5-star review. We’re so pleased to hear your group of 17 had a great time and enjoyed the trip around Hobart. It’s fantastic that the commentary made the journey both informative and entertaining — our drivers always love sharing their knowledge (and a few jokes!) along the way. While the weather certainly wasn’t at its best that day, we’re really glad to hear you still had such a positive experience and appreciated the extra enclosed buses we sent out to help keep everyone as dry and comfortable as possible. Thank you again for your kind words and recommendation. It’s great to hear the tour was such an enjoyable way for your group to see Hobart’s sights. Kind regards, Bianca C. Guest Relations Manager

Worst trip ever.

Janis_K, Mar 2026
We had to stand in the pouring rain for over an hour just to get a bus. People kept pushing in the line and we were soaked through by the time a bus came that we could get on even though I paid in advance online. We are in our late 70's so the experience was not good.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear Janis_K, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the weather made your wait uncomfortable. Unfortunately, on the day you visited Hobart we had extremely heavy rain along with multiple large cruise ships in port, which meant a very high number of visitors arriving at the same time. Our buses operate rain, hail or shine and are primarily open-top double-deckers, as advertised. On wet days many guests understandably prefer to wait for seats inside rather than sit on the open top, even when seats are available. This can mean the queue appears not to move, despite buses continuing to depart with available seats. We always do our best to keep the service moving and get everyone on board as quickly as possible. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards, Bianca C. Guest Relations Manager

A Rainy Day in Hobart

JANNETT_B, Mar 2026
Rain and three cruise ships in port overwhelmed the system! Rain precluded sitting upstairs on unenclosed double-decker busses. When there were finally seats available on the 4th bus that stopped at the Travel Center, the 1st pick-up point, we boarded - deliriously happy to get out of the rain after standing in the queue for at least 75 minutes! Even though I had an international calling plan, Hobart was the first (and only!) port in 25 days with NO wifi once I was in port. Bus brochure states wifi on-board, so I managed my frustration of no wifi while in queue. So, imagine my delight when I asked why I couldn't get a signal on the bus and was told, "Oh, this is a vintage bus, built in the 1970s. There is no wifi." We learned later it was built in the early 1980s - but still no wifi. (HUGE groan!) Travelers who had anticipated listening to the commentary in a language other than English must have been disappointed. A US citizen, I understood only about 70% of the Australian English, especially since the rain obscured the ability to see what the driver was referencing. My pictures are rain-spattered. Hop-on/hop-off is misleading as the bus schedule stops are once an hour. If you hop-off, you can't catch the next bus at that stop for an hour. My intent was to ride the entire route once and then hop-off the 2nd time around at places of interest. The once-per-hour schedule nixed any idea of hopping off. It was irrelevant anyway because the driver announced at the next-to-last stop that he had been called in just to drive the route once, so everyone had to get off at the last stop. He encouraged us to use the bus like a taxi. Who stands in the rain an hour for a taxi by choice??? On a sunny day, I'm sure Hobart is a lovely little quaint city to visit. In the rain? Not so much if your modes of travel are walking and the Hop-on/Hop-off bus!

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear JANNETT_B, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It sounds like you visited Hobart on a particularly challenging day, with very heavy rain and multiple cruise ships in port at the same time. Our sightseeing buses do operate rain, hail or shine, and as advertised they are primarily open-top double-decker buses. On very wet days many guests understandably prefer to wait for one of our fully enclosed buses, which can result in longer queues even when seats are available on the open-top vehicles. While we do our best to keep services moving, we can’t always control how guests choose to board during weather like that. Regarding the bus you travelled on, from time to time we operate one of our heritage buses as part of the fleet. These buses are fully enclosed and very popular with many guests, however they do not have onboard Wi-Fi like our modern buses. Our hop-on hop-off service operates on a scheduled loop with departures approximately every half an hour when cruise ships are in port, which is outlined in our timetable. On particularly busy cruise ship days our drivers may occasionally complete a single loop to help keep the service moving and ensure as many waiting guests as possible are able to travel. We’re sorry to hear you found the driver’s accent difficult to understand at times. Our drivers are local Tasmanians who enjoy sharing their knowledge of Hobart and the surrounding area, and we appreciate that accents can sometimes take a little getting used to when travelling in a different country. We’re sorry the weather impacted your day in Hobart and hope that if you return in the future you’re able to experience the city in clearer conditions. Kind regards, Bianca C. While the actual bus hop...

Beata_C, Jan 2026
While the actual bus hop on hop off was a wonderful experience allowing us to see the beautiful city of Hobart we feel that the experience was a little disappointing as far as the actual boarding of the bus. We waited over an hour in the queue to board the bus. We appreciate that everyone hot of the boat at the same time and there was a very high demand for this type of transport but perhaps you should make people aware of the wait times involved even after paying for a service upfront. We had people in the queue who didn’t even have tickets purchased yet board the bus before us and have led up the queue discussing that they should get on the bus as they spent 1 hour waiting. I suggest there should be a disclaimer made to make prospective passengers aware that just because you paid upfront doesn’t guarantee that you will actually get a set time journey

Steve was amazing. Very informative, friendly, well organised and safe driver! Chocolate and Lavender stops were also informative, Port Arthur is a very interesting piece of history.

Red bus hop on off

Tracy_B, Jan 2026
Limited operating hours. Last bus is 3pm. Should run longer especially during summer. Good for one day if you want a quick look at sights.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Hello Tracy_B. Thank you for writing your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your recent tour. We commence our tours from 9am and our last tour is at 3pm (with a 4.30pm loop completion). These timings coincide with the opening and closing times of attractions and sites on the loop. These times are also consistent with similar hop on hop off operations around Australia. We apoligise that our operating times did not meet your expectations on this occasion. Many thanks. Kind regards. Fiona. Tour Manager

Sinta_V, Jan 2026
We took this bus as we had docked at Hobart during a cruise. The stops were straightforward to find, the frequency was good, and the commentary was interesting. My only comment is the pricing. There were better deals available to people booking on the day.

Good service.

Valerie_B, Jan 2026
Great experience. The driver and the recorded messages were both very clear and easy to hear. We took the one from the city to the cascades brewery and ended up walking back to the city. One disadvantage is that the buses stop operating at 3 with the final circuit finishing at 4. We found that to be a little early. At least until 6pm would be good.

A must if you are visiting Hobart

Jenny_L, Oct 2025
This was my second time visiting Hobart, but my first experience on the hop-on hop-off bus—and I was genuinely surprised! The route took my partner and me to places we’d never seen before, and the guide’s commentary brought each stop to life with fascinating historical insights. Whether it’s your first visit or you’ve been before, this tour is a fantastic way to discover more of Hobart.
