Itinerary
Depart in the morning or afternoon from your hotel in downtown Chiang Mai. If you booked the private option, you'll benefit from the services of a personal guide as you explore several centuries-old temples in the 'Rose of the North.'
Start with the crown jewel: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, located near the summit of its namesake mountain. Take a drive up the mountain’s winding road, then disembark for the final climb of 306 steps via a staircase designed as a magnificent naga (dragon-headed serpent). Inside the temple you'll find a copper-plated chedi (stupa) topped by a five-tiered gold umbrella, believed to contain partial relics of Lord Buddha. On a clear day, enjoy commanding views over Chiang Mai.
After your descent, continue on down a road into town, passing by Warorot Market before visiting two more impressive temples. First is the must-see Wat Chedi Luang, which towers 196 feet (60 meters) high and is the revered home of the Emerald Buddha. Next, visit the 14th-century Wat Phra Singh (Temple of the Lion Lord), which houses a sacred 1,500-year-old Buddha image and served as the principal religious center of the Lanna Kingdom. The complex is composed of several buildings of varying architectural and artistic merit.
Conclude your half-day tour with the return to your Chiang Mai hotel.

We were lucky enough to have the tour to ourselves and we learned so much about the history of the temples and Chiang Mai that we wouldn’t have gotten with a self guided tour.

Great tour. Would recommend. Tinny, our guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. Excellent views of the city besides the temple stops.

Our guide, "Nu" (?sp) was soft-spoken yet engaging with perfect, easy-to understand English. He had amazing knowledge of history and world affairs. He was happy to take pictures for us, but did not pressure us to take a picture every minute! We did a walking tour of the center of town and saw things beyond what was on the itinerary. We started at What Phan Tao, a small temple, but in authentic Lanna style. We then went to a vendor who sold candles based off the day of the week we were born. We lit this and added it to the others as we made a wish. Next to the massive "pyramid", Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara, with its huge carved elephants. We made an impromptu stop at a place where Bhuddist monks sat outside with the goal of improving their English by speaking with strangers. I learned a lot about a monk's life in a dialog with an 18 year old monk. Now into the A/C van (thankfully, as the day was hot!) for a wiggly ride up to the Wat Phra That Don Suthep. If you get carsick, you should consider taking seasick medicine for this ride. This temple was impressive with lots of gold. The crowd has dwindled a bit since it was 4:00 PM. We got more than our money's worth on this trip with awe-inspiring, knowledge instilling experiences!

Very enjoyable tour with extremely nice and knowledgeable guide - highly recommend this half day tour. We selected the afternoon private tour option and they were very flexible to our needs, however I’m sure this tour would be great in small group too. We learned a lot about the temples and Chiang Mai.

Informative and friendly guide Krisada gave us an afternoon well worth the money. All three temples turned out to be magical subjects for my camera. Visit to Doi Suthep included a short ride to the top by a funicular but you could also scale over 360 steps on foot. Views and atmosphere in all places priceless. Transportation between the three temples by a comfortable, air conditioned van. Highly recommended. Tour starts at 1pm and you are back in time for dinner.

Really good trip and the guide was extremely knowledgeable. It wasn't too busy as it was the rainy season, so we had plenty of room to see things. Thank you

We were the only 2 on this tour which made for a very personal service. The guide was very careful to take us round at our own pace and we were never rushed. He had an amazing knowledge of local history and that of Buddhist culture. His English was very good and easy to understand.
