Personal & Packed with History – Grotto Canyon Hike with Jacob

Juanito_M, Jun 2025
Our guided hike through Grotto Canyon was the perfect mix of nature, history, and peaceful adventure — made even better by our guide, Jacob. It was a small group (just the three of us), which made the experience feel intimate and personal from the start. Jacob, a local Canadian, brought the area to life with his deep knowledge — much of it passed down from his godfather — and his genuine passion for the land. As we drove to the hiking area and hiked through the canyon, he shared stories about the First Nations peoples who once roamed these trails, weaving together history, culture, and nature in a way that added so much depth to what we were seeing. You could really feel the connection between the stories and the land around us. We started the hike early, which meant we had the entire trail to ourselves — no crowds, just quiet, rugged beauty. The hike itself was easy, making it enjoyable without being exhausting. If you're looking for a meaningful experience rather than just a walk in the woods, this tour delivers — and Jacob is the kind of guide who makes it truly memorable. Side note: We had a great time with our other tours in the area. Now we know the reason why! Jacob was the man who trained them.

Great experience....

Great experience. Beautiful views, our guide was very knowledgeable about the indigenous people that inhabited that part of Calgary and the important and enduring impressions they left in the region. He prioritizes your safety and ensures everyone is having a good time. You won't be disappointed?

Beautiful sights and stories

This was an amazing hiking tour. The scenery was gorgeous. I did this with my parents and our guide was Ben. Ben was friendly, fun, and really knowledgeable. He was also well prepared for the outdoors, which made us feel safe and confident. We got a great history lesson about the area throughout the hike. The cave paintings were really special to see. 1000% recommend this tour and ask for Ben!

Your also a STAR! Thank you very much!

flexible guide

Trena_R, Dec 2021
We booked Canyons and Cave Paintings, but on the day of our tour our guide, Jacob, gave us an option to change the location. The weather was not ideal for the canyon and there was another location we could go to that would have better conditions. He left it up to us to decided which hike to do. We went for the alternate location, which was an abandoned mining town. We heard about the mining history of the town, walked down a trail that was once the main street, and came across remnants of the past inhabitants. We did several walks with this company and all were great. The humor and knowledge of Jacob combined with flexibility make them great to tour with.
