Overview
Tackle Rat’s Nest Cave, located near Canmore, Alberta, on this all-day adventure tour. After being outfitted with your gear, head out on a short hike up to the cave. Along the way, learn how caves are formed and the geologic history of the area, plus possibly spot bighorn sheep. Once at the cave, rappel down 59 feet (18 meters) and begin navigating the route, which includes some challenging sections that involve climbing, crawling, squeezing, and sliding through the cave. At the end, reach the grotto with its crystal-clear pool and stalactites and stalagmites.

- Caving is a moderately strenuous activity. Guests should be prepared to hike uphill for 30-40 minutes on a mountain trail, in addition to climbing, crawling, squeezing, and sliding through the cave. All participants must wear a helmet as well as a safety harness which has a maximum waist size of 45" (114 cm) and a maximum leg size of 33" (84 cm)
- Not recommended for pregnant women beyond their first trimester
- Near public transportation
- Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
- This tour/activity will have a maximum of 8 travelers

I would give this 10 stars out of 5 if I could! Our cave guide John curated the perfect experience, mixing safety with facts/stories and humor. The caving itself was unlike anything we’ve done and we’re some pretty adventurous people. Be prepared for some tight squeezes but if you can handle that, it will be an amazing time!
Awesome experience and few fun squeezes.
The guide was an obvious passionate and shared his knowledge with fun anecdotes.
Great for escaping a hot summer day or to warm up during a frigid winter snap since the cave temperature hovers around 6°C year round.
John our guide was a sponge full of information on pretty much any topic brought up. He’s supportive ,cheers the cavers achievements, makes sure everyone understands & practices safety for both the group & the caves. At 65 & 68 my hubby had no clue what the excursion was about but learned fast. We hiked, repelled , did swan dives in the narrow parts, learned moves our shoulders/rest of our bodies never knew we could do!!!! I’m beyond how much fun & learning this experience was. If I didn’t live in Texas I would be caving every weekend!!! We had both a 14 & 16 yo with us & even they thought it was COOL😎. I’ve done extensive traveling abroad & im pretty sure this is #1 in the top 5 of my travels !! Sign up

We wanted to do something to get away from the crowds on a Saturday. This was ideal. Our guide, Emily, was so kind and funny and incredibly knowledgeable. Our family is very active and adventurous and this was a perfect day.

One of the coolest things I’ve ever done. My partner and I booked the big tour and had the pleasure of going just ourselves. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and experienced. Would love to go back and do some more exploring!

First time you’ll have fun doing laundry. This was my first cave exploring and it certainly won’t be the last. Rats nest was right up my alley as my girlfriend and I did the extended version. There was tight squeezes, 49 meter rappelling and lots to see. Our guide Annie was amazing and very personable. As long as you don’t have a fear of heights, tight spaces, being in the dark, or have any physical limitations I would say it’s an experience of a life time which I wouldn’t pass up on. Total time spent was about 7 hours dedicated to the entire experience.

I went with my boyfriend for his 30th birthday. It was loads of fun! We had Tamara and Brett as our guides and they did an incredible job at keeping it lighthearted and fun. Lots of joking around and they were great at giving us lots of information. I would highly recommend it!
The laundry shoot with no difficulty even though I wouldn’t have thought I could do it. When your there you just concentrate on other things and I did it!!
A truly amazing experience. Tiffany our guide was extremely knowledgeable and fun. She exactly when to stop to give us a rest on the short but steep hike up. Her very calm demeanour when talking to someone with a lot of fear was very reassuring to witness.
It was so much fun climbing and wriggling around the caves. I would highly recommend this adventure!!
