Overview

Tackle Rat’s Nest Cave, located near Canmore, Alberta, on this all-day adventure tour. After being outfitted with your gear, head out on a short hike up to the cave. Along the way, learn how caves are formed and the geologic history of the area, plus possibly spot bighorn sheep. Once at the cave, rappel down 59 feet (18 meters) and begin navigating the route, which includes some challenging sections that involve climbing, crawling, squeezing, and sliding through the cave. At the end, reach the grotto with its crystal-clear pool and stalactites and stalagmites.

Caving is a moderately strenuous activity. Guests should be prepared to hike uphill for 30-40 minutes on a mountain trail, in addition to climbing, crawling, squeezing, and sliding through the cave. All participants must wear a helmet as well as a safety harness which has a maximum waist size of 45" (114 cm) and a maximum leg size of 33" (84 cm)
Not recommended for pregnant women beyond their first trimester

Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level

First time you’ll have fun doing laundry. This was my first cave exploring and it certainly won’t be the last. Rats nest was right up my alley as my girlfriend and I did the extended version. There was tight squeezes, 49 meter rappelling and lots to see. Our guide Annie was amazing and very personable. As long as you don’t have a fear of heights, tight spaces, being in the dark, or have any physical limitations I would say it’s an experience of a life time which I wouldn’t pass up on. Total time spent was about 7 hours dedicated to the entire experience.

I went with my boyfriend for his 30th birthday. It was loads of fun! We had Tamara and Brett as our guides and they did an incredible job at keeping it lighthearted and fun. Lots of joking around and they were great at giving us lots of information. I would highly recommend it!

A truly amazing experience. Tiffany our guide was extremely knowledgeable and fun. She exactly when to stop to give us a rest on the short but steep hike up. Her very calm demeanour when talking to someone with a lot of fear was very reassuring to witness. It was so much fun climbing and wriggling around the caves. I would highly recommend this adventure!!
