We are a family of three (me, husband, and 15 year old son) and we spent half a day with Fred, our tour guide. We began at the Boca area and then visited a leather store. It’s not like the leather stores in Turkey or Morocco where you feel compelled to buy something. There were leather jackets and purses and shoes. We then went to San Telmo and ate and drank. Fred is full of charm and full of good stories about Argentina. The afternoon felt like time spent with a friend. If you are wanting to hear good stories and eat the tastiest foods, you should sign up to tag along with Fred. Happy Travels.

Fred was the perfect host/guide for this tour around San Telmo and Boca!! He is knowledgeable, witty and very engaging with guests and the personalities around town! We loved hearing the back stories abound the food, history, current affairs, Argentinian culture and popular trends. Learned SO much about BA and Argentina, makes us wish we had weeks to learn and see more!!

Our tour started about 40 minutes late in Boca. Once our tour guide got there, he was very friendly and showed us the major attractions in the area and got us samples of alfajores and dulce de leche liquor from a local gift shop. This was our only food stop in Boca.
After this our guide took us to a leather shop that he frequents on his tours. Not a stop I recommend if you are offered as the prices of the goods are much more expensive than elsewhere both in the city and in other countries.
Once we finished we went to the San Telmo, which started with him taking us to different antique shops and pointing out items that interested him. After we concluded that portion we went to the San Telmo market, which was excellent! Here we had empanadas from one of the best stores in Buenos Aires and a churipan sandwich from another market. Once we finished our guide offered to take us to sample other dulce de leche but we declined. At the conclusion of our tour he was kind enough to drive us back to our hotel.
For me, a food tour should cover between 4 and 8 locations, depending on the number of items per stop, that serve a variety of local food. This gives you an understanding of the people and the history of a place you are visiting. As such, I would recommend another tour if you are looking for a food tour. If you are looking for a city tour with a local guide and lunch, then this experience is perfect.

Tim thank you for the feedback, i will take into acccount all your suggestions to make the experience more enjoyable. During our tour was ongoing a general strike of transportation that make us imposible to start the tour earlier sorry for this. This activity is a blend between a food tour and a walking tour. We also tried during our tour Mate, and wines (we did 4 stops of food total, because you refused to do the 5th stop of caramel / Alfajores). The leather factory is one of the biggest leather factories in Buenos Aires and they sell leather to most of the malls and leather shops in town, they offer better prices than in most of the traditional shops in town and they also offer a wider variety of products and qualities. We had just a small amount of time to occupy on our quick stop in Buenos Aires and this satisfied the need. We wanted lunch and some cultural immersion - we got it here! Loaded up with tasty empanadas to start, we walked the market, got to experience the wine window, and then strolled to a artist market (with a few stops to feed the dolce de leche hole we didn’t know we had). Perfect way to spend an afternoon - we came back on the tail end of our trip for more!

We had an absolute fabulous time with Fred who was one of the best food and tour guides we have ever had and we have had food tours all over the world. Fred did car and walking and knows the areas so we’ll All the people in the area know him by name. Food market was the best. Wine shops (we visited two of them) had great wines (Malbecs and chardonnay) One of the wine shops has a cute wine window and you ring a bell to get your glasses of wine. FUN

Food portion was varied and nice - enjoyed seeing parts of BA we haven’t explored before. We’re not shoppers at all and would have preferred skipping high sell spots. Fred was lovely and very professional with the redirect back to food tour. I’d specify your interests up front or when booking to ensure your tour meets your goals.

Overall good experience. Sampled typical foods from sweet to savory and beverages from mache to a variety of wines. We ended the tour with a nice meal at San Telmo. I was paired with another group ( tour says it is private) which was fine but they were late in arriving and the transportation between sites couldn't hold everyone which further delayed logistics. While OK we spent far too much time at the leather stores. I did appreciate the opportunity to see Tango in the square and the assistance in getting an Uber back to the hotel.

Fred was so hospitable. I loved the market, empanadas, choripans and the wine. I could have skipped the leather shop but that’s me. The shop for mooncakes, wine and tea in La Boca was great

Our tour guide Fred was a joy to spend the afternoon with from a personality standpoint, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the San Telmo area and Buenos Aires in general. He gave us advice about other activities and was flexible & accommodating with our itinerary. All-in-all he’s an excellent host, very personable and a good communicator. I appreciated his sense of humor (lots of laughs) and kindness.
Above all—the food that we ate was YUMMY! The San Telmo market was a highlight—I highly recommend it, and Fred. I wish I had taken a full-day city tour with him in addition to the food tour.

Fred was awesome. Very knowledgeable and fun. A great introduction to Buenos Aires and Argentine culture. Empanadas were delicious and we loved the Florentine styled wine window. Tour guide was very high energy throughout and his command of the English language was excellent. It made for a delightful tour.

Excellent tour of areas of San telmo and Boca. Our tour guide Fred was willing to adjust and move more slowly due to limitation of my husband but managed to show us many in aspects of this area.

Fred was a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. The food part of the tour was my favorite. I’m not really an antique connoisseur so going to the different stores to look at them wasn’t for me. Good price value for the tour.

Fede was an excellent guide. Very attentive since contacting us with time. He explained the exact details of typical Buenos Aires food. We ate at ease, offered drinks of all kinds and even a few glasses of wine. It was not limited to any gastronomic tour, it moved us to see details of the city as a local: Street Tango, a market, antique exhibition, guided us in souvenir shopping, worried that we are comfortable and already finished the tour until we took us to our hotel as a great detail of Closing activities. Super hospitable. And we love your mate 😄.
