Overview
Explore the underwater world off the coast of Bermuda while wearing a Hartley diving helmet. During this 3.5-hour eco-tour, don the specialized helmet and climb down the ladder of the fully-equipped glass bottom boat, then simply walk around on the ocean floor. Delight in this unusual underwater activity, which is easier than snorkeling or scuba diving and more interactive. Spend 30-40 minutes traipsing around the sea's sandy bottom, getting a close look at the vividly colored coral reefs. Use of all equipment, including wet suits, is included. Hotel pickup and drop-off not included.

Arrive about 25 minutes before departure. Helmet diving vessel, Rainbow Runner will be along side the dock face perpendicular to Heritage Wharf, Dockyard, right next Floating bar, Calico Jacks and the floating fun park catamaran Longtail. Next to the boats, on land, is a lifesaver shaped Moongate.

One of my greatest experiences ever. Family business since 1947 and boy do they know the business, attention to the details, make you feel confident and safe. The fish feel confident around the skip so they allow close contact with us. Can't recommend them enough

This is the best way to see fish and corals with out having to get into scuba gear. It is easy to do. We had a great time learning and seeing and holding the fish, even the eel.

This excursion is the best thing i’ve ever done! I’m 280 pounds and can’t swim and that was not an issue whatsoever. I was not scared once I got into the water. I can’t snorkel well or scuba and this was the perfect solution. I am beyond happy and it was well worth the money. I made friends with a lady in her 70s and she was able to do it also. We were able to walk around on the ocean floor and see many different types of coral. I learned a lot during my time underwater. My only regrets is where i booked through viator I had to pay 30$ for pictures but if i booked through the building on the island and pictures would have been included.

Very disappointed as felt we were back at school. No excitement more like a boring school trip. Also allows animals to dive which in mine and the other people who were diving with us felt was animal cruelty.

This is the most AMAZING thing I’ve ever done ‼️
It’s breathtaking to be walking on the bottom of the oceans floor and breathing as normal as if you were out of water
It’s also as educational as it is beautiful and breathtaking
This was my second time doing this and I can’t wait to do it again!
My girlfriend enjoyed the second time better

My family of four and two of my kids’ friends (ages 15-17) went helmet diving with the Hartleys in August 2025. I was actually a bit hesitant to book it at first since my husband and I did a similar excursion in Bora Bora years ago and I was worried this experience wouldn’t be was as good since we typically prefer the variety of sea life in the Pacific. I ended up booking it anyway since the rest of our group hadn’t tried helmet diving yet and many other popular Bermudian water excursions (snorkeling tours, cave tours, cliff diving, etc) had already sold out while we were in port for our cruise.
Boy was I happy that we went. The Hartley Helmet Diving tour was a completely awesome and unique experience; just as good as, if not better, than the one we did in Bora Bora. The captain is an interesting character and did an amazing job educating us on what we would see on our way out to sea. He even had an effective way to communicate what we were looking at while we were underwater utilizing wooden signs and hand signals (you can’t hear each other through the helmets). We got VERY up close and personal with the coral reef and got to touch and see all sorts of fish including snapper, hog fish, squirrel fish, angel fish, eel, shrimp, as well as others.
The Captain also took great pictures and video of our group while we were on our underwater tour. The photos and video were an extra $20pp, but well worth it! We got about 50 pics/videos in total for our group and it was great way to remember our experience.
Overall, I highly recommend this excursion for anyone looking to enjoy the Bermudian sea life. It’s great for all ages and super easy to do.

We did the helmet dive excursion yesterday and the underwater experience was absolutely amazing! Walking/kneeling on the ocean floor surrounded by fish and coral was unforgettable. The equipment was solid, and we felt safe the entire time. Captain Greg was fantastic in the water and clearly experienced and great at keeping everyone calm and having fun.
Unfortunately, the experience lost a bit of its shine because Greg went off on several political tangents during the surface portion of the trip, including an unsolicited anti-vax rant and praise for RFK Jr. It was awkward and out of place. We'd have preferred a bit more instruction and focus on the actual excursion rather than personal opinions.
That said, his son Ben was a total delight, super helpful and friendly, and the other crew member was also great. With a little more professionalism from the captain out of the water, this would have been a solid 5-star experience.

Hartley was amazing! We were on a cruise from July 19th thru the 24th and booked the excursion. It was a great experience. Another boat vendor tried to trash him by saying he was crazy, but he's a very smart man. It was educational, he took care of everyone, made us feel safe and confident, he was funny, and his son and the young man helping him was also fantastic. An experience we'll never forget. This was a great experience! We really appreciated the wonderful dive and the opportunity to see the fish so close up! A couple of things to note: Viator should correct the description of the boat. It is not a glass bottom boat. A good thing for travelers to note...who you travel on the boat with can make or break the experience, because you will wait about an hour during the other dives before or after your 30 minutes dive. We had wonderful travelers, making the experience a very interesting time socially as well as experientially. Also good to know...the pictures are much more than just a couple of pictures. While he only promises two per person, we got many more than that, plus video, and while he's taking pictures you get a lot of personal attention with the fish! So you're paying for more than just the pictures. We rarely would pay the extra, but it's definitely worth the extra when booking this experience (and actually included when you book directly on their website, we also found out.) The father-son team work together very well and have years of experience in this service...so ask lots of questions! One thing I would suggest is looking up the kinds of fish you might see ahead of time, because it's hard to remember all the names when you just see them for the first time. Snapper, hog fish, eel, squirrel fish, parrot fish, etc. And various coral species.

I’ve done this once before and it is very cool. This was cool as well. The downfall was I didn’t realize we went down in three separate groups so we had to wait over an hour and a half while other groups went. The other issue was that we didn’t order pictures and the guy spent most of the time with the people who ordered the pictures taking pictures so that was frustrating.

Diving experience itself was AMAZING!! Slight engine issue back on the boat but eventually got us back to land. Highly recommend going at least once. Would contact and pay directly upon arrival as it saves money on the pictures

Tour was cancelled with no communication from the vendor until we called. They stated that we were the only two people booked for that day so it didn’t meet the minimums. They were originally reluctant to refund us saying we were within the 24 hours but finally did as they realized they cancelled and not us.

Pick-up right on the cruise ship pier. Easy! Informative talk on the way to the dive site. More kneeling than traipsing on the sea bed. Up close and personal with many varieties of fish, close examination of types of coral. Truly a memorable experience.
